1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vatican Is positioned to be first State to run a sanctioned cryptocurrency on: April 01, 2016, 06:59:01 PM
April fools

IDK, the article cites an established CEO of an italian BTC startup as a source. normally, yeah, but I doub't he'd be retweeting it like crazy if it were bunk
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Vatican Is positioned to be first State to run a sanctioned cryptocurrency on: April 01, 2016, 06:47:07 PM
well, That was unexpected. Vatican City is launching a Coin that's open ledger and non-permissioned. Apparently they've been keepingit under wraps too. Thoughts?
3  Other / Off-topic / Security PSA: Using brave could seriously compromise your privacy on: March 11, 2016, 07:26:54 AM
It's explained better here, but the essence of it is that the Brave browser tracks every detail of the user's actions, down to what the mouse hovers over and such, natively, and stores the info locally. While Brave Inc doesn't technically collect this information, they still have access to it and will be leveraging it for sale to their nebulous "partners" now and in the future. I would not trust these people with any amount of Bitcoin, or provide such a centralized, desirable attack surface to would-be intruders on my machine. Don't believe me, give their FAQ a careful read. the fact they're marketing their product as private and secure is something that needs to be talked about, and people need to be informed about the privacy implications associated with the product.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Brave" - New, faster browser with integrated BTC micropayments on: March 11, 2016, 12:56:45 AM
I wouldn't bet on the browser's Privacy just yet. The gist is that Brave Inc. doesn't collect information, but the browser definitely does. On a massive scale. They just offload the analytics to the user's computer and reap the benefits while saving on server costs. Worth a discussion here for sure. read the FAQ on their main site if you don't believe me.

This is fantastic news. Always been a fan of the Mozilla people and everyone loves faster.  Most important of course is the acceptance of BTC.

It's just the one mozilla guy that got booted for funding anti-gay lobbies, if I remember correctly.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you want to make a charitable donation and have some fun in the process: on: March 06, 2016, 05:17:42 AM
The idea is good and nice but it didn't mentioned how much exactly each donation is or rather how much each move costs in this case. It would have also been nice if they would have said some information in regards to which charities were chosen to receive donations, so we could double check everything on the other side as well. Hope they don't turn out to steal in the end.

you can spend any amount, though I think the minimum is .0005 to prevent spam. you can always ask the creator about the charities on twitter, its right there on the stream splash page.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / If you want to make a charitable donation and have some fun in the process: on: March 05, 2016, 03:04:43 PM
I stumbled upon this today: Bitcoin Plays Pokemon. It's a charity stream that lets you play pokemon in the same way Twitch Plays Pokemon does, only you make moves by donating BTC to charity. Pretty cool. Twitch stream here
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PSA for those using Linux Mint on their Mining Platforms on: February 21, 2016, 10:04:48 PM
I've seen a lot of posts here about it, and I did on my old GPU mining rig. I'm sure it applys more to altcoin miners but the fact pool info is saved in plaintext in a lot of cases makes this a huge concern for the folks that do.
8  Bitcoin / Mining / PSA for those using Linux Mint on their Mining Platforms on: February 21, 2016, 08:54:51 AM
There's been a breach on the linux mint servers: the hacked install .iso has a baked-in unix trojan and if you have your pool info saved in plaintext (as most mining packages require you to in .conf files) tour entire platform is at risk. if you have a recent install or upgrade this DEFINITELY concerns you

if you want to continue using mint download it from the torrent, if you're fed up like I am there's plenty of other options
