1  Economy / Service Announcements / CoinThink.com opens market algorithm evaluation platform. on: August 15, 2013, 04:42:31 PM

The past few months of experimenting with scripts to make buy/sell signals from the MtGox ticker has generated some interesting results. Making a web platform to do the same sorts of experiments opens a door for daytraders, finance 'quants', and interested bitcoiners to try their own experiments. Now that the site is usable, I'm announcing it here.

CoinThink is a platform for experimentation and measurement of trading algorithms. Algorithms are written in javascript and run on cointhink.com for an introductory price of 0.01BTC/week.

This swing-trade script buys and sells when the price changes favorably by at least 0.2% from the last buy or sell. It runs with every new ticker notice from MtGox, and its last trade was Aug 13. Note that trade order execution is simulated and all javascript code is published (private scripts are a future feature).

Scripts start with an inventory of 1.0 virtual BTC and $0 virtual USD. Scripts are ranked based on their total inventory value on the leaderboard.

2  Economy / Trading Discussion / Reasons for high arbitrage levels on: July 24, 2013, 09:13:23 PM
The price/volume separation between mtgox and the other 'big' exchanges, BTC-E and Bitstamp, is at all-time high levels of around $500 total opportunity.

The graph I made/use to follow arbitrage potential is here:
https://cointhink.com/arbitrage/btcusd

The mtgox-btce difference I have always attributed to the difficulty of moving USD into BTC-E. The listed options on the BTC-E site do not inspire confidence at first look, or they do not exist. Bitinstant used to be popular for this but they stopped having available funds in BTC-E, then stopped all together (their website says they're rebuilding the service).

Bitstamp (and camp-bx) are also trading at BTC-E levels, which is a full 9% less than mtgox. I want to ask here if there are theories as to the source of this price gap.

Thanks,
Don @ CoinThink.com
ps. The 'total opportunity' is a calculation of the actual ask/bid skews between markets *including volume* to get a genuine total amount of opportunity of asks that are lower than bids.

This is the forums account for cointhink.com - a bitcoin market information warehouse/processor. The service started at the end of 2012. Its been an exciting time watching everything that has happened to bitcoin and the different marketplaces in 2013. By providing information to users in this thread, the goal is to create more informed bitcoin traders everywhere.

Thank you,
