What is it about Bitcoin which brings the degenerate trolls out in full force?
I very much doubt Neo is a scam, if so a ridiculously elaborate one! Does everyone expect constant updates and ROI in a couple of weeks? This is a start-up!
Interested to find out what the suspicious trading activity was though... but looking at the long term here.
4  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Conceptually, what could the government do to defeat bitcoin? on: March 25, 2013, 11:38:33 PM
* Smear campaign informing people its used for kiddie porn, drugs and terror.

* Telling people its actually devaluing their own currency! Those without BTC would instantly hate it.

* A ban on exchanges

* A ban on merchants accepting Bitcoin as payment.

I think these are much easier and cheaper than any form of network attack.
Its not out of the question... the US can do pretty much what they want when playing the 'terror' card.
I read that China already have legislation for virtual currencies?

I'm hoping this explodes Globally before any of this happens.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Attacks. The sooner the better? on: March 16, 2013, 02:15:52 PM
I would like to see a few more ASICs going live, and an updated client which addresses the blocksize limit first. By confidence as a Joe-average would rise then.
Purposely stressing things would see my holdings fall in value in the short term I think as people would panic sell.
Surely these things can be tested on a separate network though? It must be fairly easy to simulate scenarios such as a massive surge in transactions etc? I would download a test client to run a parallel blockchain and send play Bitcoins if it would help the community.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dangerous precedents set on March 12 2013 on: March 16, 2013, 10:40:17 AM
I think the right decision was made... wouldn't the alternate mean the majority having to update to the 0.8 client before being able to use Bitcoin again? I think this would have caused even more panic. I live in the UK, I woke up and the situation had been resolved. It would have looked much more serious if 50% (or whatever) of users couldn't use Bitcoin. For many upgrading is simple... but for my Linux install, the repository wasn't even ready for a at least a week after 0.8 was released!
The devs need to sort out a 0.81 release and test it hard, then test it again. When the concerns about transaction limits are removed confidence in the protocol will be solid.
OP referring to the white paper does sound a bit religious!

They upgraded their server last night... although it was a bit flaky until an hour ago.
I can log in fine now. Guess they need more power to handle the volume.

OK... Bitcoin is going to replace every major currency in the world, Governments are just going to give up and die, a perfect free market Utopian economy will just replace them where we all agree and decide laws and provide everything society needs based on supply and demand.
(Meaning corporations run justice and care for disabled people etc. for profit)

My Mum is going to learn about private key encryption, trust online or local wallets with her net worth, and we are all going to be rich. And I will be able to buy a car for 0.00000012 Bitcoins.
It's going to happen.  Grin

A list of things which replaced things hardly wins your argument. The £ (and other currencies) will become more 'digital' (liquid and easier to use online) to compete with Bitcoin and the majority of people prefer to stick with what they know.

Bitcoin has flaws... in your world the price of Bitcoin would keep inflating until only one currency remained (BTC), nobody would spend any money for fear of its value growing the following week! Why buy a car this week if its cheaper next week?

Arguably superior alternates for things are invented all the time... doesn't mean they gain mass adoption, so your list is meaningless.
Bitcoin has a big future, its just not what some dreamers let themselves believe. (In my opinion)
16  Economy / Economics / Re: UK Downgraded from LOL to LMAO on: February 23, 2013, 09:48:31 PM
Lol that is a little bit sensationalistic if you ask me! The Pound will be here for a long time yet.
"George Osborne has warned there will be no let up in his plans to reduce the deficit"
Well that's a good thing isn't it? We are high in debt, at least they are sticking to plans to get us out of it.
Our credit rating has been reduced a little? Not massive news, we are among many other large countries in the same boat.
Bitcoin is never going to replace the £.
Bitcoin potentially could be a large player in digital online commerce, or simply be relegated to the grey / black market digital currency only.
A bit premature to tell everyone to stock up on Bitcoins and Gold... you can hardly buy any of life's necessities with Bitcoin in the UK yet!

20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Quick, answer! Is BTC 0.000152 big or small? on: February 14, 2013, 10:10:26 PM
Even at $30 I think a lot of hoarders would continue to hold... I know I will.
I think $100 is a fair point to stabilize at.... once its there for a little while the hoarders will start to sell.
