For everyone having MTGOX issues - to compare since I moved to bitstamp, it only took about a week.
Bitstamp wins.

UPDATE: finally the money arrived at my bank account.
This process took about 6 months and I had to pay a 5% fee of the total transfer to "expedite" the transfer. (total transfer was in the thousands).

UPDATE:
So, after 5 months and agreeing to paying a 5% ransom, I have received an e-mail that my funds are being sent and should take another week to arrive. I'll believe it when I see it.
It's really "interesting" that they decide to cash out withdrawals once the BTC price has spiked. Interesting indeed. I really hope MTGOX gets what is coming to them.

Don't even get me started about the safety and fire issues related to their PSU
Ouch, you had it worse than me. At least my product works -- even though they mined all the good mine out of it the 6 months prior to me receiving it. I am curious though, which PSU do you have and what were your concerns? The one I received looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/lSwkhSb.jpg (link instead because the image is HUGE)

Perhaps the extra charge is for shipping insurance??
Nope, only received the default insurance (I think that's about $100 lol).

(Not sure if this is the correct forum for this)
Been mining about a week on BTCGuild pool with an ASIC miner. I have it set to "auto withdraw" every X amount of BTC so my wallet transactions are the same every time. Today I saw a positive entry (about 0.08 BTC) to my wallet but instead of an address it shows "Generation" and the fee is really high (24.9 BTC).
What does this mean?

Thought the community might want to know if it's not out there already.
I had ordered a 60 GH/s unit way back at the beginning of the year. There was an initial shipping charge (international). About 8 months in to the wait, BFL offered an "upgraded" expedited shipping option for about an extra $200. Of course I jumped at the opportunity to get my miner sooner in the face of increasing difficulty.
Disappointed when the box arrived and I found that it was the Priority Mail International® Large Flat Rate Box by USPS - totalling $53.95. I get there can be some handling fee included perhaps, but really seemed like gauging to me.

I think if someone is willing to pay more than 300$ for it, then they are pretty much dumb.
Trying hard to understand this one?? I get difficult is increasing, but this still made over $160 in the last week.

From what I've read, BitStamp is closest for volume? Any other recommendations?
Really scared of MTGOX but would like to start trading BTC again.

This feels like extortion. I've been waiting MONTHS now for my withdrawal request (international). A couple weeks ago I received an option for a "manual" withdrawal at 5% fee. Of course I went for it because something is better than nothing -- well I'm STILL waiting even after agreeing to pay the ransom.

Had a pre-order for an original 60GH/s miner, finally arrived last week. It mines about 1 BTC per 5 days or 0.144 BTC per hour 24 hours (as per btcguild stats). It looks exactly like this one available at BFL now but is the 60GH/s version: https://products.butterflylabs.com/homepage/50-gh-s-bitcoin-miner.htmlLooking for some selling advice. What is a reasonable price to ask for this unit? BFL is asking $2499 for a 50GH/s unit -- and then there is the dreaded shipping; I don't know what the arrival times are looking like now, but mine took almost a year to arrive. Next question, where's the best place to try to sell it (bitcointalk, ebay, BFL forums)? Thanks for any suggestions. Edit: corrected per hour to per 24 hours

Been almost two months waiting for a withdrawal to Canada from MTGox. Strange, their website still says: "International Wire Transfers: At the moment we are manually processing wire transfers and have a slight backlog as we create a new withdrawal system with our banking partners. Your withdrawal may take two weeks or more depending on the amount.Your patience and understanding in processing withdrawals is greatly appreciated." Any support tickets I submit reflect a similar verbiage, and sometimes a copy and paste of their "press release" found here: https://www.mtgox.com/press_release_20130704.html

i'd like to buy weed locally with bitcoin
+wun I personally would like to be able to buy anything with bitcoins. As in I can send bitcoins anywhere and they would automatically transfer to USD or whatever currency the receiving party has by running through a third party for a small premium. BTC = 22.75$ I want to buy something that's 19.99 * 1.06 (tax) = 21.19$/22.75 = .93 BTC * 1.015 (premium) = .945 BTC sent for that 19.99$ item. Hope that made sense I can do that for you through Amazon. Pick an item to your wishlist

No need to apologize, I am definitely new to the forum and your questions are valid. In fact, quiet the opposite as I apprecaite your time. That's why I was seeking some feedback here; I need to understand how to satisfy the concerns that people may have... and there's likely things I haven't thought about. To answer your questions: Q - why do you want to receive bitcoins in return for you using your credit card purchasing stuff on amazon ?A - There are a few reasons I chose this method to begin collecting BitCoins. The most obvious one is that I simply want some BitCoins. I could have used a Cash method of driving to a bank etc., but then I began to read about WoT and the importance of building a reputation in the community. Using one of the Cash exchanges would somewhat limit the opportunity to grow reputation. This method also lets other people, newbies like me, the chance to build reputation as it would be reciprocal. In addition, there must be people out there with BitCoins that would like an easy way to exchange their BitCoins for USD, and this basically allows for that (although they are required to spend it at the same time on a purchase through Amazon). So this satisfies a variety of interests rather than just simply acquiring BitCoins for myself. Decentralized acquisition and dispersion of BitCoins I guess you could say, and as I understand... that's one of the key principles of this currency. It's also a little inconvenient to drive down to the bank in order to get some digital currency. I should be able to get it digitally right Q - Also, are you willing to use escrow for the transaction ? To be on the safe side, the buyer should probably have the coins in escrow for 30 days before they're released to you, to be on a reasonable safe side.A - Sure I'd be willing to use escrow. At least to establish some reputation, that would make sense. In the long term I'd prefer not to wait the 30 days of course, granted people could trust me from past experience. Are there any escrow services you would recommend? There must be an easy way to start this off that doesn't require a lot of risk. Anyone need a tube of toothpaste, or $1.99 Kindle book?
