1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's your expectation for 3090ti in terms of hashrate on: September 12, 2021, 08:44:53 PM
There is a rumour going around online that 3090ti is coming, hehe I hope Nvidia will find a way to make this one have better cooling than 3090s and I do hope 3090ti can be so good for mining, roughly 180MH to 200MH maybe
Unless they use faster GDDR6X memory, it should be basically the same hashrate.

To hit 180MH+, you need 5120-bit HBM2e like on the A100.

The RM 5600 XT works fine with standard settings of 40-41 megahash.
If you need to get a higher hash rate, then you need to flash the BIOS of the video card. Then you can get 44-45 megahash.
Different video cards may have problems, for example, the video output stops working, so you need to read the forums for each of the models.

I must have 4 bad 5600 XT cards.  Running with the stock settings "core clock 1700" and "memory clock 1750" and the Power override via Afterburner set @ "power limit -10%" the best I get is ~38.2M/H.
Use a lower core clock like 1000. The 5600 XT is heavily memory bandwidth limited so you don't need to run the core very high.

Ethash peeks at noticeable less power than equihash on my 1060's (most probably the same for all Pascal cards).
Equihash like more core clock and that apparently cost more power then boosted memory (which benefits ethash).

Thats exactly the opposite of what I have experienced. The equihash (zec) is using less power.
Maybe in the early days of ZEC when mining software were completely unoptimized. It's no longer true, Ethash is so memory bandwidth bound that you can heavily underclock a regular 1070 without affecting Ethereum hash rate. ZEC and other Equihash coins on the other hand, scales pretty well with increased core count and clock speed.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Deep Explanation of how Ethereum ASICs are possible? on: March 31, 2018, 10:40:35 AM
Turns out this wasn't as big of an obstacle as people thought though, GDDR5 chips are expensive but there are mountains of DDR3 chips laying around for a cheap price. Since the algorithm scales perfectly in parallel, there is no reason why these slow DDR3 chips can't be used en masse to provide the required memory for ASIC's.
But putting chips in parallel is complicated and expensive to manufacture. It's a major reason why video card manufacturers have almost always gone fast but narrow vs wide but slow when given the choice. Even the most integrated wide and slow method, HBM, remains expensive and rare.

All I know is when I run the nicehash benchmark, one of the benchmarks put's a crazy amount of stress on the GPU. Like on most test the core is around 1700mhz but on one of the test it goes up to 2037mhz even though I'm 60% power target and +150 on the core. It's weird.
Isn't that the opposite; that test can go up to 2000+ because it doesn't push the cores very hard and allows the GPU to boost higher because  power usage is low.

well i've seen that i cant run a 1600 psu @ my electric plugs. do you think i can 6x 1080 with a 1200 psu?
If you're willing to lose a modest amount of production and run them at lower power use and you'll easily fit 6, even 6 1080 Ti. As an example, for ZEC and 1080 Ti, when set to a power limit of 160W I get ~80% of the production as compared to when it's set to 300W.
