I can't use MtGox as I have no utility bills in my name, only bank statements which they don't accept.

Just had a look at the other site, I might be able to use that I'll look into it. Would prefer a more instant way.

or you can try buying directly from the community itself at bitcoin-otc.org
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Want to make my first GPU rig! Where to start? on: April 16, 2013, 12:51:09 AM
Hey everyone! Brand new to the forums.

Been messing around and have been trying to learn as much about mining for the last month on my work-supplied 22.00 M/hash Macbook Pro Retina running bootcamp, and decided to try it out for real. I ordered a BFL 5Ghz miner but seeing as those probably wont be shipped for a few months, I wanted to make a rig to try to take another step before it comes.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to start with a simple build? I am an audio programmer but I have never built my own computer so I was wondering where I should start. I wanted to keep the price of the first build really low - preferably around $300, but something I can add a bunch of GPUs to later if need be. Any ideas?

Was looking at the 6870 but newegg seems to be out of stock  Embarrassed

Start in 2009.

Don't try to build a GPU rig, get on the list to buy an ASIC.

Hi there, even if you snatch a lot of small transaction and gather a good sum, will you ever be able to spend them?
The mandatory transaction fee seems to be bound to the kb of the transaction, which is bound to the amount of transaction it's made of.
So the fee will always be higher than the coins you made.
Is this right?

No.  The transaction fee is not mandatory in all clients.  The size (kb) of the transaction is not tied to the amount of the transaction.

Still how do u get them? (first  few )

Post enough times in this sub-forum to not be labeled a "newbie", then you can reply to the "Ripple Giveway" post with your ripple address and the bot will send them to your ripple address when it runs again.

I've been mining bitcoins on Ubuntu linux (and tried custom compiling on Gentoo briefly) for ~2 years now.  I've fried most of my overclocked ATI 5850's (just in time for the FPGA war of 2013).

I've published a <plug type=shameless>https://github.com/tkooda/namecoin-tinydns-data</plug> package on github that is listed [1] in the dot-bit.org wiki that makes it easy to run your own fast/secure .bit (namecoin) DNS server.

I like long walks on the beach, rainbows, puppies, and forum admins.

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

If the goal is to weed out spam/trolls, perhaps there could also be an IRC channel to go to to speak with an admin for a bit and they could override the limit?
