1  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Convert Casascius 2012 to Fiat ? on: December 16, 2017, 05:57:17 PM
Thanks all - I have PM'd Lesbian Cow who seems to be a trusted and knowledgable collector.  We will no doubt agreed a sensible price. I don't owe anyone money tomorrow but I don't think the builders I am hoping to get to do my roof take BTC. Does anyone have knowledge of methods for physical escrow ?  Or do you just deal with the known members, f-2-f ?

Thanks Hab & wheelz. Take your point about safe selling. My only
problem is with that phrase “exchange the BTC”
for sterling. I don’t know a way to do that. Withdrawing Btc funds into UK bank accounts seems particularly difficult.

Any ideas, anyone ?
3  Economy / Collectibles / Convert Casascius 2012 to Fiat ? on: December 14, 2017, 08:44:50 PM
Hiya,

I have a mint brass 2012 Casascius 1BTC fully loaded (ungraded but has never been out of capsule) that I would like to sell for sterling.

I don't want to sell for BTC as I haven't the time or energy to sell off parts to convert to fiat and have never found a good enough exchange to withdraw into UK funds (have I missed something).

Any ideas/offers to avoid going to fleabay (although it might come to that - in which case, wondering out loud, what reserve price would one set - current BTC value x 1.6 ?...?)

4  Economy / Trading Discussion / Simplest conversion Casascius to Fiat ? on: December 14, 2017, 09:39:54 AM
Hi All,

I have a mint brass 2012 Casascius 1BTC fully loaded that I'm interested to convert to sterling. Short of fleabay (although it might come to that) any ideas/offers ?

I am NOT interested in selling for BTC and then selling off the BTC bit by bit (too time consuming and too many fees) and haven't identified any straightforward exchange for withdrawing into fiat (have I missed something- please educate me).

And while you're wondering out loud....how much would your reserve (sterling) price be if you were selling a similar item ?

Thanks for your answer Chris - yes, I could become a vendor on bitbargain (the local market) but with no previous record of trading it's very hit and miss (like being eBay with o% feedback). My question was really about exchange methods outside of the US. As far as I can see the equivalents in UK, such as Sofort banking, only allow deposits, not withdrawals. That would seem to me to limit the spread of BTC.

Does anyone know of a method for changing BTC back into fiat other than selling them on the open market ?

I am a semi-newbie. Have set up my wallets, bought a couple of coins and even got myself a Casascius (2nd edition) from molecular. I don't want to 'cash out' - this isnt a 'trading for profit' activity for me as I am more interested in the social and fiscal ramifications, however.....the Bitcoins I bought were by bank transfer to trusted vendors on bitbargain.co.uk. It occurred to me that I have no idea how to exchange the coins for sterling should I ever want to other than becoming a vendor myself (with no trust history). I do read around the the sites and wikis a lot - have I missed the UK or even european version of Mt Gox ?

I am sure this Q is not mine alone  Huh

Thx in advance

Hiya,

I have sorted out my wallet and would like to order 1 for shipment to UK address please.
Do you include the plastic capsule (happy for an extra charge if needed)

Thanks - that does help. How does the system stop coins being spent twice prior to network sync ?
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Conceptual question ? on: March 02, 2013, 01:56:40 PM
I am getting up to speed but remain confused about one thing.

I have a bitcoin both on my machine in a local Wallet and in my Blockchain wallet. Its the same BTC.

Now I have added another BTC to my local Wallet which shows 2BTC balance (including the original) - which can both apparently be sent to my Blockchain wallet.

If I do that, and presumably blockchain realises that one of these is already there so gives a correct balance of 2BTC

If I then spend one BTC from my local Wallet - how and when does my blockchain wallet update itself with my new, reduced balance ?

I think its the concept of the same BTC being in various 'places' that is messing with my head. Whats to stop me spending the local coins and then spending the blockchain coins on something else before blockchain gets synced ?

Apologies if I have missed the point here but if someone would be kind enough to help me get that straight....

Complete newbie happily using MultiBit. The install probs I had were about which version of Java was being auto selected by my mac - changed that and it ran smoothly

Excellent ! Thx for prompt reply - I'll sort myself out some more BTC tomo and work out how to buy 2 from you over the weekend (dont think I have PM rights yet).

Am I right thinking that Series 1 are all gone ? Everywhere ?

(Have just seen the trade terms - sounds cool)
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Buy Casascius BTC for sterling ? on: February 28, 2013, 06:27:23 PM
Hiya,

I have bought my first BTC via a UKBT and would like to order a couple/three OTC physicals. I can see that molecular is doing honest deals but everything is in BTCs. Is it bad form to offer local currency ? Otherwise I have to score more BTCs online with cash and then use them to fund the Casascius physicals. Seems a long way round...anyone ? Molecular ?
