1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HW Errors Antminer S5 on: December 05, 2015, 04:41:09 AM
Hi,

I'm writting here for solve doubts about HWE% acceptable for Antminer S5.

And, for example, the HWE% can going increasing and inflict a terrible damage in the miner?

Other point, my miners #2 have a bad chip, 1X, and the HWE% isn't high, why?

I going to attach the image here.

Good Vibes!

I rather see the gui to tell your problems but it looks like 1 miner has 1 x  which while not perfect is okay.

note the image did not show for you because you are new. but I checked it and allowed it to show.

I am not new and can do that.

I rather se a two or three hour screen shot  of the gui .  I would like to know  what psu's you use I would like to know the temps.
I would like to know the psu.  The fan speeds etc.

but if you stay at the stats above for two or three straight days you should be fine.

I'll try to capture it tomorrow in 3 times and I will upload the images, ok? But it's worth, this is the value higher in HWE%. I use some HP Server 1200W and some Super EVGA 1200W. The fan speeds almost always have 2-3 in 4080rpm and others in 3480-3900-4080. The temps is variable but the max is 60-62C, in the past image have 1 hashboard in 64C and other in 61C but already retouch the termic paste and all right.

Miners have been all day on, just when I going to retouch the paste turn off, or networks problems sometimes, but the rest of the day 24/7.

When I can consider dangerous in HWE? 0.01% maybe?

S5 consumes ~550W DC, 30W of which is fan and controller.  With 90% efficiency for PSU that gives 590W at the wall of energy.  Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, so that 590W is going almost entirely to heat, with other losses due to mechanical friction (fan), radiation, light and noise accounting for a very minimal amount.  590W would mean 2,124,000 Joules in an hour, or 2,013 BTU's minus aforementioned energy "losses".

I'm not sure it's worth doing the math to be perfectly honest unless you were designing a massive data center.  Just put as big as possible ventilation fans to exchange air, and monitor ambient temp.  If it gets too high, add more....  I believe some of the large hosting centers have enough CFM to exchange all the air in the hosting area in a matter of seconds.

Just get 3-tons or 36,000 BTU of cooling with 3200 total CFM of air movement and you should be able to keep your room temp steady.

I understood when you said those quantity. So, how many CFM and RPM must be the exhaust fan? The "heat side" is approximately 2metersx2metersx1meter.

Hello y'all.

Recently, I've got 16 AntMiner S5 and I wonder these days, what will be the better configuration for cooling all this?

All power consumption it's ready but cooling even not.

How I measure how much heat generated by each S5? Through BTU or CFM? I mean, I've thought use 1 or 2 extractors fans like the picture, but I would like to have an idea of heat generated and take those numbers and calculate how much exhaust fans I could need. Another doubt, is better setup a big hot aisle or little?

Below, I'm going to attach here the image to refer to planning and exhaust fan.

If somebody knows how much heat is generated by each S5 in BTU vs CFM, can comment here, will be a big helpful. My final idea is, extract the total of heat and every moment keep fresh the miners.

Too can be useful if somebody knows how can calculate the heat generate by each miner, knowing the watts, volt, etc. I want to know from where concludes that the BTU or CFM generated by each miner it is.

It's the planning.

It's the extractor fan.

Good vibes y'all!!!

PD: First image show "extractor fans" I meant to say, exhaust fan. Sorry.

For best performance I have heard under 60 is best which is what yours seems to be running around. I wouldn't be worrying too much with those figures.

Well. This is a good new! Thanks.

As it says on the subject, which is the max temperature recommendable for an AntMiner S5?

I have 16 AntMiner S5 works 24 hrs/ 7 days. The max temperature registered has been 66 Celcius in two miners (often the hotter), is it bad? Rest of the day is about 57-62 Celcius and the night is about 57-59 Celcius.

Well, 70. More than that can somewhat shorten the life of the S5, which is probably plenty long anyways, the risk is more burning something off.

Under 60 is recommended for longer life time, under 70 for best stability.

If you want to get the temp down and the noise down, i recommend you use a box fan to blow air through it, through the fins too. My S5 is currently at 48C with fan at 35% with ambient temp at 18c. So +20c and its pretty quiet.

Yes, and now that you said it, do you know how much is the lifetime of the S5 exactly? I can't put me in risk because in my country is very hard find parts.

I've considered it but is an expensive idea. Really, the noise I don't care.

For example, here's a screenshot, sometimes 2-4 miners up to 65C, and 1 miner up to 66C. No more.

Still consider it is good?

And the room temperature is no greater than 30 degrees Celcius.

http://www.amazon.com/AntMiner-S4-~2000Gh-0-69W-Bitcoin/dp/B00NWHT18A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1420603816&sr=8-4&keywords=antminer

Saludos! Grandiosa comunidad.

Saludos!
