@Eliphaz Fimk, I would recommend creating a new moderated thread, where you could be able to ban imbecilic teenagers that have too much spare time to waste.

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: December 27, 2016, 09:37:52 AM
So anyone else here didn't get their Byteballs???

If you didn't get them then something was probably not done properly ...

- Do you ....

Clearly some accounts did not receive the blackbytes. I have one of them.
All the checks listed above are meaningless, because the white-bytes did arrive as expected.

Hopefully tonych will sort it out eventually.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: December 26, 2016, 11:24:44 PM
Hi @tonych

I have two wallets on my mac, that I use interchangeably by replacing "byteball" directory in the Application Support.

The first wallet received both bytes and blackbytes, while the second got only bytes.

Is it related to the p2p method of sending blackbytes? Is there any way around it (for example changing IP, or running wallet on a different machine)?

Thank you in advance.

Sasha Ivanov promised to distribute Byteball to Waves holders. Let's hope he keeps his promise.

I contacted Sasha Ivanov, founder of Waves, about the linked address 1NGfrU4YNp8dox1gLeUDyjD5Vpfck9no5j that has 4800 BTC from Waves ICO.  His response was that if the project is successful, he is going to distribute our coin as dividend to Waves holders.

Hi, I don't have this folder in Application Support

If you have run byteball on this mac you should have it.

Try this in terminal:

Code:
zip -r ~/Desktop/byteball.zip ~/Library/Application\ Support/byteball

This should put byteball.zip (which would be your backup) on your desktop.

ZCash will use Equihash as an hashing algorithm...

If it's "memory-hard" algorithm it's highly possible we would not mine it on Elastic network. We have some restrictions if it comes to memory.

It is memory bandwidth, not the memory size that Equihash needs. In practice in means the optimal ratio of CPU/RAM, which seems to be around 1 GB of RAM per mining thread (1 core CPU):

https://forum.z.cash/t/how-to-properly-mine-zcash-day-1/937/3
Quote
The Equihash paper says RAM bandwidth, not RAM size, determines the limits, provided you have enough additional "processors" (threads?) per 1 GB. For example, you might need 1 GB to fully utilize a thread that is operating at some bandwidth. But if that is using only 10% of the bandwidth that the RAM is capable of, you could run 10 more threads.

They are actually planning to support smartphones for mining:
https://z.cash/blog/why-equihash.html

Further down the track, our goal is to have the Equihash solver optimised for running on smartphones. We hope that this will greatly aid the decentralization of mining — users could mine Zcash while their phones are plugged in and unused overnight!
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin is Dead" - Mike Hearn on: January 15, 2016, 11:31:20 PM
Wont change the fact that you're a newbie
I joined this forum a few months before you, and you seem to be a hero member. What it makes me?

...who knows nothing...
You're right here.
I know nothing, except for the fact that now your "Mike" is working for a dangerous and extremely rich enemy of Bitcoin.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin is Dead" - Mike Hearn on: January 15, 2016, 05:56:38 PM
Here is what Mr. Hearn did recently, the timeline:

1. Mr. Hearn ensured the job at R3, the leader of international banking consortium, established to disrupt Bitcoin. The banks and financial institutions of the consortium collectively control trillions of dollars.

2. Mr. Hearn sold his coins.

3. Mr. Hearn published the "The resolution of the Bitcoin experiment" article, where he stated that "Bitcoin has failed".

Mr. Hearn currently is a new R3 employee, not a Bitcoin developer. If he, as he should be, is loyal to his employer, his new objective is to damage Bitcoin.

From this perspective his actions make perfect sense.

So, has anyone done the math. Is it cheaper to rent a mining rig and point it to the multipool, or just buy the stuff? Any idea of BTCD per GHs?

its usually not good to rent to mine on a multipool it will be better to buy it, but if you have your own rigs than its profitable

What kind of mining and Ghs are you talking about? Wasn't BTCD at PoS stage that doesn't depend on a hardware?

-- Sorry if this turns out to be a stupid question...

Teleport

Best of luck and happy coding! Your excitement is contagious Smiley

Would Teleport be bound up by NXT/BCTD somehow, or would it be coin-agnostic?

Funny, now that primer got this red negative trust level, his equally negative comments are perceived to contribute to the coin's reputation. Multiplying negatives makes a positive  Grin
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin all time high and the hoarding theory. (Poll included) on: June 18, 2014, 07:46:35 PM
1- the decentralization is being destroyed a day after day by big mining pools and exchanges and wallet services and all kind of other centralized services.

2- in fact, Bitcoin is a high inflationary currency at this moment (for the next 100 year Bitcoin will be still inflationary), 25 BTC are mined in average of 10 minutes, well in fact it has been 7 minutes for some time now to be accurate, but lets pretend that is 10 min instead so: 150BTCan hour or 3600BTC a day or 1314000BTC a year, yes more than a million Bitcoin... this makes the inflation rate more than 10% a year.

3- not really easily stored, you need to be so careful when dealing or storing bitcoins, many thefts and hacks were going around the last 5 years, many exchanges and services failed because of this, sending looks simple but for a person who is not so tech savvy it looks so complicated a combination of capital/small letters and nembers as an address and change addresses and backups and.... add to that in order for the network to work(transactions being confirmed) miners are needed so there so much energy needed to spend (secure/confirm the validity) a bitcoin.

4- not anonymous, I would say it could offers some kind of privacy if you know how to use it, it sure offers insurance against identity theft but right now if you send me a transaction I could see the history of your transactions and maybe even how much funds you do carry around .... when the coinjoin will be implemented and it starts working as it should or maybe when a good mixer is used this would be a real private, but now it is not anonymous neither private to be honest.

5- what you do you want me to add here ?

My main point was that "hoarding-only" currency has a right to exist.

As to the reasons to exist, your countering of these reasons is valid. However, what are the current alternatives for hoarders? Fiat and commodities, right? Both, imo, considerably worse than Bitcoin.

To clarify the strengths of Bitcoin in this context:
   - Decentralised as in "not controlled by a goverment"
   - Non-inflationary as in "supply increasing to a known finite number"
   - Easily stored and transferred in relation to commodities such as gold or land
   - Anonymous as in "hopefully in the near future" Smiley
   - you continue... err... maybe here I wanted you to add that Bitcoin is fun

Now, I fully agree with Mervin that better cryptocurrencies than Bitcoin will emerge or perhaps emerged already.
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin all time high and the hoarding theory. (Poll included) on: June 18, 2014, 06:25:14 PM
Money has multiple functions, one of them is hoarding (aka saving). Even if Bitcoin had zero merchants and served this hoarding function alone it would be valuable.

Because it is:
   - Decentralised
   - Non-inflationary
   - Easily stored and transferred
   - Anonymous (sort of)
   - you continue...

Web Mining
In an effort to provide a viable alternative to the ubiquitous advert sponsored web, we begin the development by creating in-browser mining software (it should be running right now!). In the future this should allow content-lockers and ad-zones to be replaced with background mining scripts in order to monetize web content.
Milestones: Prototype, Testnet Block, WOLF Chain Block, Alternative Chain Block, Unique Transaction Algorithm

I don't think many realise how big Web Mining could become when/if implemented properly. It can change the whole paradigm of coin mining, simultaneously removing annoying banner ads from the websites you visit or maintain. It would turn WOLF mining into truly meaningful mining - the very thing Primecoin, Curecoin and others attempted to achieve with various levels of success.

This feature alone would be enough to make WOLF a massive hit, no need for anything else. I'd really like to see it happen. Good luck dev!

Web Mining can only be a good thing, if the visitor of the mining-enabled website will get a message, that his resources are being used as long as he is on the website, BEFORE he enters the page, that starts mining via JavaScript, Flash or such.
Otherwise it would be a mere theft of electricity/power and will be no better than virus-mails installing mining-applications, to run silently in the background, without the user knowing about that and stealing the electricity, he has to pay for.

That depends on the implementation of the mining algorithm. PoS minting for example does not require any considerable amount of computing power (or electricity for that matter). It could be significantly lighter than an average animated Flash banner ad.

Besides, the websites already run a lot of hidden background tasks, of which regular visitors are not aware. Take any random website... bbc.com for example... at the first glance at the source I see 6 hidden services:

Google Analytics
Audience Science
DoubleClick
Effective Measure
Omniture
Score Card Research

I'm unsure for long-term, but I don't think I'm prepared to burn many more coins over the short-term in this experiment, which may of course be a long-term mistake. Although this could make for a nice retirement fund perhaps.

Now, that's a real yin-yang coin, you constantly facing the dilemma: to burn (to get more minting power) or not to burn (to keep more coins)

Not all coins are in circulation already. You know how many are?

91,075 were mined so far
39,320 were burned

So, if I read it right - currently there are 51,755 coins in circulation
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Slimcoin : Proof of Burn NEW BLOCK GEN, Mineable by low power computer! on: June 02, 2014, 07:52:10 PM
Still waiting for PoB block, haven't seen anything in the past 3 days after burnt 250 coins..
 Angry

by the way, developer, can you help me to take a look at the pm i sent you? I suspect there are some problem with wallet.

Was your wallet locked? I suspect PoB mining does not work with a locked wallet (in spite of dev's beliefs).

Is there a block explorer? Or does someone know how many coins have been mined so far?
