The main web page is not accesible for more than 10 hours. Anyone else also see the problem?
the site is working fine for me.
2  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: How to mine using 7970 or 7950 on Win XP? on: July 23, 2013, 03:09:00 AM
actually there are modded drivers which support the 7970 and windows xp with opencl. APP SDK v2.6 actually works with windows xp. AMD just disabled it in versions of catalyst for windows xp after 12.1 to b dicks.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CureCoin to be released soon. on: May 09, 2013, 05:08:32 PM
perhaps after you finish the coin you should make an announcement that you will be releasing it in a week or two weeks from that day. and give a certain date and time.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Holders Must Prepare For Mass Adoption on: May 08, 2013, 06:30:34 PM
well we are screwed. due to the Chinese currency manipulation if an American can mine bitcoins for a profit at $100 a bitcoin, a Chinese can mine bitcoins for a profit at $50 a bitcoin assuming he pays the same price for electricity as the American. this is probably exaggerated but you get my point. considering we can mine bitcoins for a profit, a Chinese can become rich mining these shits right now. considering there are over a billion Chinese they have the potential to cause the difficulty to skyrocket and drive profitability into the ground if enough people start getting into bitcoin. this could force everyone else out of the market as far as mining goes due to the currency manipulation.

notice the difference in economic policy between the US and China? the Chinese see a brand new industry and growth market in digital currencies. they saw that western countries are cornering the market so they ran this story on state run TV to get the Chinese people to start adopting bitcoin. while western governments say nothing but bad things about bitcoin and try to drive people away from it. they see it as a threat to the old banks and try to destroy it. crony capitalism at its finest. while the evil rich people who control China see the economics of it, it's a new booming industry and a growth market. they want China to control it and corner the market on it. this is exactly why China's economy is growing so rapidly and quickly becoming the largest economy in the world and why western economies are either stagnant or shrinking. similar to solar panels, the Chinese see it as a growth market and are trying to have China corner the market on it. while in America they see solar power as a threat to the old coal industry and try to destroy it. while America is only concerned with protecting the old banking and coal industries, which destroys the economy. China is only concerned with economic growth. which is better? if earth continues on its current path and no major events disrupt civilization then China will definitely become the most powerful nation in the world in the coming decades. the country with the largest economy is always the most powerful country in the world and China will have the largest economy in the world soon. i would say advantage: China.

as America weakens under corruption and crony capitalism (fascism?), China strengthens under it's form of communism.

BTW i'm not saying that the Chinese government is good, it's not, it's simply better for gaining power. notice how i didn't say America is a democracy, i think it's actually fascist. real democracy and direct democracy is good for gaining economic power too and better than what the Chinese government calls communism.

then again i could be wrong and they simply want to use bitcoin as a weapon against the USD.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] yacoin: yet another altcoin. START is now. on: May 08, 2013, 09:30:08 AM
this can only be mined with GPU by the developer. everyone else has to use CPU. the dev has GPU mined it from the start along with the 0 difficulty.

Very unlikely. All the current coins could have been generated with just 10 early adopting i5 2500k. If there was a GPU miner working on it from the start our CPU miners would have been blown out of the water.
that's because all of the coins released recently have had a difficulty of 0. how often are you finding blocks? if a block is created every millisecond and you find one say every 5 minutes if your lucky, that leaves thousands of blocks found by someone else during that time. how do you know where they are going? just because you find one block every 5 minutes (if even) doesn't mean you're not getting blown out of the water when hundreds of blocks are getting created every minute. 99% of the coins are probably going to the dev.

this can only be minated with CPU right? or gpu aswell?

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anti-Bitcoin Socialist Propaganda in New Zealand on: May 07, 2013, 08:56:06 PM
those people aren't socialists they were just saying what the people who pay them told them to say. really you have to be able to control the money supply? why? why is it important to be able to decrease the value of people's money? if the value increases then you can simply buy more with the dollar you have. it's like saying we can't increase wages because then the price of goods will rise. it doesn't matter if the price increases because people will have more money to be able to pay for it. nearly all of the profits go to the CEO anyway. they could create the same things for alot less and pay the workers more if the CEO was simply paid $30 million instead of $60 million.

there is such thing as a libertarian socialist, which is what i am. they are not mutually exclusive.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pre Mine Record Thread on: May 06, 2013, 03:40:32 AM
True Pre-mine - Mining began before it was announced. I think this is ok to a certain extent as long as it goes to the developers and they use it to pay for server costs, giveaways, paying scripters, and maybe a little for them (like shares in an IPO). As long as this doesn't amount to too much of a pre-mine and they were up front about it, then I wouldn't be against it.

Insta-Mine - Friends of Dev's were sitting waiting to press the button as soon as it was announced thus getting super easy blocks before people have the chance to get their miners prepared. This has probably been done by every single coin in existence. It's not super ethical and I think this pisses people off. Setting the difficulty higher upon release would solve some of this issue (New Devs please take note).

Insta-Mine with Large blocks - This is the one where the first blocks are set to pay out several hundred coins then drop as the "days" go on. This is probably the worst of all especially if the Dev's friends are ready to mine the instant it is announced and even worse when the difficulty is so low that after 20 minutes the first 3 days of blocks are already eaten up my these miners. This is the only one that actually upsets me because it is set up to look like it is fair and great for early adopters but in reality it is the most unfair way to launch a coin.

It's a Pre-Mine because I didn't know about it - This is probably the real reason people call a coin "pre-mined" or "scam". It's because they are butthurt that they weren't online when it was announced, the difficulty went up to high before they could get in on it and now the want to make the coin look bad so that they can get people to lose faith in it and therefore lower the hash rate (or prices). Or, they prefer another coin and think that by bashing another coin their coin will look better. This actually has the opposite affect bringing more awareness to the coin.

you forgot the one where the developer creates a GPU miner before he releases the coin. then when he releases the coin he says the coin is only able to be mined by CPUs and the only mining software he releases to the public is a CPU miner. how great the pre-mine is determined by how many times faster the developer created mining to be on a GPU compared to a CPU. and how long it takes someone to realize this coin can be mined by a GPU and creates a GPU miner that he releases to the public. sadly enough this was litecoin.  Sad

and the one where nobody knows how to mine it after it's released because the blocks are created in less than a second and most people don't know the setting to change in cgminer in order to actually find a block. so all the blocks go to the developer and the few people who noticed the coin was released within the first 15 minutes of its release and knew the setting to change. the developer gets nearly all the blocks in the beginning when 90% of all coins that will ever be created are created.

how do we know he doesn't already have a GPU miner?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Let's talk about SCAMS on: May 05, 2013, 03:33:13 PM
LOL to many here if its not LTC or BTC, its a scam.

If no one is being manipulated or lied to is it really a scam?

they are being manipulated and lied to if they creator states when he releases the coin that 1 block will be created every 10 minutes but in reality 1 block is created every 1 second or less. then the creator releases no information on how to mine the coin so after the first couple hours 90% of all coins that will ever be created are already mined and the creator owns nearly all of them. he released the coin with a lie and manipulation and did so in a way that no one else would be able to mine the coin until he already owned nearly all of them. that falls under the definition of a scam in the OP.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there still need for more coins, or better, opporutnities for innovation? on: May 03, 2013, 10:01:50 PM
Heya,
I was wondering, with the rush of useless alt coins, is there still anything innovative we could do for a new coin? I would be very interested in making a coin, but I'm not going to make a LTC clone, change the difficulty and rename it, I was wondering, can we still do anything innovative, or is LTC the only alt coin we need?
make a direct democracy coin. that will solve the problem bitcoin has with the bitcoin foundation. every user of the coin gets 1 vote and every decision about the coin gets voted on by every user. any user can propose a change and if a certain percent of users support it then it will be approved for a vote. you can call it direct democracy coin or DDC. it will be the worlds first truly decentralized coin without a central governing body controlling it in secret making back room deals behind closed doors, called the bitcoin foundation.

What would there to vote about?
how commits will be made to the source code. whether we will pay someone to build infrastructure and work on programming for the coin. if so then how he will be paid, through donations or a tax or something similar. if not then i guess it will only be done by people willing to work on it for free. there are lots of things to decide. many brains working together is much better than one and people will feel passionate about it because they can directly effect it. they will feel it is theirs. this will make them work much harder for it and put their heart and soul into it.

not to mention it will do something good for the world unlike scamcoins.

It's an okay idea I guess, it could work in terms of that it will make it theirs. I wonder what a good name would be. 'MURICOIN
we could vote on which infrastructure will be made. what changes will be made to the source code. there could even be polls to decide the specifics about the coin before it is released. for example whether it will be scrypt or sha or something new. the total number of coins to be created. what the block reward will be and how often blocks will be created. whether it will only be CPU friendly or only GPU friendly.

also you could add a feature where the mining does something good like folding or setti. i don't know if that's possible but it would certainly be nice.

if you don't know what direct democracy is look it up. its not the same as representative democracy. representative democracy is a failure. direct democracy is what the world needs now.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How many Bitcoins in a BitBar? on: May 03, 2013, 06:52:03 PM
.000000000000001 BTC to 1 BTB

It's an altchain released about 24 hours ago with 0 dedicated services and no real purpose other than pump-and-dump. The only think keeping it's price up right now is mindless hype and insane speculation. Assuming this thread is a discussion of the "true" value of one BitBar, I say it is effectively worthless given current conditions since you can't actually use it for anything other than speculation yet.

You seem to spend a lot of time in the alt coin section bashing alt coins. Not trying to be rude but why are you here?

I agree. I've seen 3-4 members here who bash every alt coin. Litecoin, ppcoin, feathercoin... everything
most of them are scams and get rich quick schemes. they're not actually trying to do anything good. you have to create a coin for altruistic reasons and be very good at it to be on bitcoins level. which basically means you have to make improvements on bitcoin. improvements designed to make the world a better place. then you have to release it in an honest way with no premining. the reason most people create alt coins is because of greed and to make the creators rich.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitBar New POW-POS scrypt CryptoCoin on: May 03, 2013, 06:12:33 PM
Pre-miners, you mean.

This thing is being pre-mined right now, you are one of the pre-miners.

Blocks seem to be coming in every second or so, it is in pre-mining mode, difficulty deliberately started ridiculously low so the the author could start mining a block a second or more while you set up your mining then you mine a block a second or more while preparing to post and so on.

It looks like no attempt at all was made to set the initial difficulty at a reasonable level, instead the whole thing is designed specifically, like mincoin, for pre-mining.

How fast are blocks being found, and what is the command people need to use with e.g. cgminer to make it not expect at least a minute between blocks? (As otherwise no wonder everyone finds only stales, sixty blocks have gone by by the time they check for new work.)

This is basically deliberately designed as a pre-mining scam.

-MarkM-

thanks for pointing out a scamcoin for what it is. these people are idiots who think it wasn't premined.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LTC][Pool][PPLNS] WeMineLTC.com | 0% FEES! | Stratum | DDoS Protection |!! on: April 30, 2013, 07:12:49 PM
us.wemineltc.com:80 doesn't work for me either. there isn't any error it just never connects. the eu server works fine but i'm in the US.

Works fine for me with cpuminer.
My stratum proxy batch file = stratum_proxy.exe -o us.wemineltc.com -p 80
My cpuminer batch file = minerd.exe -o http://127.0.0.1:8332 -u [my worker id] -p [my worker pass]

I start stratum proxy first, then the miner -- usually link up and begin mining within 30 seconds.
i'm using cgminer with guiminer-scrypt. i've waited 5 minutes but it just never connects. the eu server connects in a few seconds.

I've recently used cgminer on a 3x GTX480 system with the stratum proxy same as above.
My cgminer batch file = cgminer --scrypt -o http://127.0.0.1:8332 -u [my worker id] -p [my worker pass] --shaders 480 --intensity 13 --worksize 64,64,64 -g 1

Your problem might be in guiminer -- last I heard, guiminer-scrypt was still in testing
why would you use a stratum proxy with cgminer? cgminer has built in stratum support. does the US server only work with the proxy?
