1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Timeline - illustrated on: April 10, 2013, 05:09:54 AM
I got quite a chuckle out of this.  Grin

Something I've been wondering, have any of the faithful BFLers in the Kansas City area called up and requested a facility tour?

I don't see why this would be an unreasonable request. Perhaps someone should organize a group. Hell for a respectable amount of BTC  I'd be willing to contact them, and organize something. God knows they could use a nice little PR event right now, with real members of the community, as they've lost so much credibility.  I work for a fortune 20 and have been in front of my CTO and different VPs over time... I do know that after the second time of saying "2 weeks" I'd be out of a job.

Don't get me wrong, for the diversity of bitcoin I really hope they do deliver a product... but my dad always said "you can wish in one hand, and crap in the other... see which one fills up first."

Long live BTC!!!

I have been to their old office. I may actually be in the area tomorrow so maybe I'll swing in. I know 1 other miner in town too so I'll text him... although he ordered batch 2 avalon so not sure how much he cares about BFL.

I would be curious to know what you'd see. I wish I could have gotten my hand on an Avalon. Until another "legitimate" organization comes forward or BFL delivers there is only one company, and those fortunate enough to get in on the limited production runs will benefit.

Diversification and decentralization are what make this whole thing beautiful man. I hope BFL management hasn't forgotten that, as the inability to deliver will hurt bitcoin in my opinion.

I'm sure "Anthony's" view will stand up in the Supreme Court, and influence the Parliament and statutory agencies to make laws

The all powerful blog. It's free speech, which is worth nothing, except a possible momentary distraction from the mundane. Your sarcasm is justified.

Unfortunately, just like with a great many things, the only thing that may motivate our illustrious governments, and people creating all of these wonderful laws is $$$.

I saw this link in another thread in the forum but believe it applies to this one.

https://bitcoinfoundation.org/blog/?p=163

"Is a “miner” of bitcoin, a person who receives “new” bitcoin in exchange for his computing efforts, considered a “creator” under the guidance? A person who obtains bitcoin by his own manufacturing effort is not differentiated from an ordinary “user” under the guidance, and informal communications from regulatory sources indicate that it is unlikely the guidance intended to consider every “miner” a “creator”. This is confusing because in the bitcoin community, a successful miner might be thought of as creating new coin."

Take it for what you will after reading the blog entry, however it seems like a pragmatic interpretation of the FinCEN statement.  I for one generally approach legal issues a bit cautiously, however am a small miner with no intention of making a business about it. I just want to understand how to cover my bases, without unnecessarily "poking the bear", which is just bad practice in general. Cheesy

It's all pretty sad. I've been silently watching the whole ASIC soap opera/train wreck for a few months now.

I personally do hope that there is some viable competition in the ASIC space soon, for sake of decentralization of mining. Congrats to Avalon for being first to market, and I hope BitSyncom continues to manufacture and distribute.

Ideally, I do hope BFL does own up to their agreements with their customers, and finally delivers the promised product, or adequately compensates for shortcomings.  They are beyond the need to get a PR/press department though, or at least some well trained customer service rep(s). However they may as well hire a janitor to cleanup the relations mess they've created with the BTC community and their customers. I understand that labor rates in MO are pretty competitive.  Grin

Perhaps it's obvious... no customer news?

 Cheesy

...edit.
Ha! I only saw the graphic, didn't see your writeup. heh.

Does anyone even know if registering with fincen is even that much of a hassle? There are no fees or anything. Do you even need to collect info for smaller transactions?

That is a great question. Also, as was mentioned, perhaps it is time to warn the peeps on the sites advertising exchange. Great point!

I would setup my stepson with his own wallet, transfer the coin to him, explaining the history and usefulness of BC and alt currencies, in the hope that it will elevate his interest in computer science and engineering and find much new efficient ways to mine more BC or invent his own alt currency.

Since he's only 10... I would hope BC will continue its accelerating valuation and perhaps one day he could pay his college tuition with it... Or make it his thesis to implement bitcoin as the primary form of payment, ir source of student loans, at a major University.

How's that?

So, would this be the demise of sites like localbitcoins.com?

Must... make ... 5th post.

I've been banking online for years, with proper 2 and 3 factor authentication, never once had a problem, can't see how BTC can be any different.

The only time I've been burned was when the DOJ pulled the plug on Full Tilt Poker, and even then, eventually, us ROW players got paid out, one can only hope that our American mates get paid out soon and convert some of their winnings to BTC.

You want to be really paranoid, go and sit at a poker table, where EVERYONE is out to steal your chips.

It is surprising though how many organizations don't offer 2 factor authentication. Some use site key images however I think that isn't enough, and don't truly count it.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BFL ASIC conspiracy on: March 26, 2013, 06:45:29 PM
Bitcoin deserves its own set of conspiracies, man!

With BFL, perhaps the building in Kansas City is their version of Hangar 18/Area 51.

"No sir, there are no ASICs here. We formally deny the presence of any ASICs."  Hence the silence.

Of course, we'll need to consider analogies to Echelon IV, Majestic 12, and the bitcoin Illuminati.

Good discussion. Perhaps a security idea is some form of dual factor authentication for your wallet (i.e. - signing in with a password, then getting a call/txt/email with a pin. Perhaps that could be incorporated into the locally hosted wallet software as some form of optional enhanced service (for a minor fee to support the tech).

Just a crazy thought, but I am sure someone has thought about it before in the bitcoin space.

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a while now. Been mining for approximately 2 months. I remember reading about bitcoin at its inception. I thought it would be just another fad, however I really kick myself now given how its taken off. Cheesy

Look forward to participating in conversations. That custom hardware forum can really get the blood pressure up. Smiley

Have a good one!
