Awesome, thank you.  I'll think some more about this before I decide for sure.

Silver is only produced when stars explode!  There's a relatively limited quantity of it here on Earth, and it is used for a wide variety of applications ranging from thermoelectric conductors to cloud seeding.  Besides these things that give it inherent value, it has been used as currency and precious jewelry for thousands of years.  Modern mining techniques and its removal from circulation in many currencies have made silver a relative bargin these days.

I'm acutely aware of the monetary value of silver because I work with dental amalgams.  A few ounces of the silver containing amalgam "waste" can be recycled for thousands of dollars.

And I'm wondering if this is even possible.  I saw one guy sold his two jalapeņos a while back on auctions, and that got me thinking.  I've made a decent profit with my BFL Single FGPA, but I'm starting to get cold feet recently and kind of just want to cash out.  Please tell me if I should shut up and stop worrying, and also let me know if selling "my spot in line" is something that people would be ok with.  I would of course insure and track the shipping and have a trustworthy mod hold the funds until the buyer received the ASIC.  My order number is around 3000, and I'm willing to provide proof. The bidding would start a bit higher than the actual sale price, as part of the draw is my earlier spot in line.

Hey all, Here's my speil:

Long time lurker, first time poster.  I've been actively involved in bitcoin since I bought a BFL single FGPA and preordered their 60 GH/s ASIC back in July 2012.  I do post sometimes on reddit.com/r/bitcoins, but not super often (and not under this same handle Wink) I've been aware of bitcoin for quite a while, because of the publicity it got in Wired, Ars tech, etc.  I have no classical financial or computer science education (I have a career in medecine), but I'm a curious type and have learned a lot in my spare time.  I'm interested in eventually opening a bitcoin related business, but I have a lot to learn before that.  That's about it.

Cheers,

Notorious

I'm sure this has been answered, and yes I did google a bit, but I'm having trouble understanding everything thats going on on the Bitcoinity.org charts.  It's mainly the bottom one.  I understand that the two diverging red and green lines represent the number of people who have placed buy or sell orders at a specific price, but I'm lost beyond that.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
