1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Questionnaire to help me start mining on: October 09, 2023, 01:59:28 PM
1. Are you mining? If no, what is the main reason? I reckon financial issues will be the top factor, but let's see.
2. Are you solo mining or mining using a pool? Please elaborate on what kind of devices you use. Also, in case you use a pool, if you feel comfortable, share which ones you use.
3. Are you mining on your premises or are you using hosting facilities? If you mine on premises, how do you deal with the electricity costs and the noise?
4. (Leave every other note you have here - free text)
1) I used to mine quite a bit.  Had many asic miners.  I no longer mine BTC.  The cost of power at my home is too high based on current difficulty and asic power consumption.  The Data Center I used to colocate my equipment in has gone out of business and it seems like most of the DC I have looked at are interested in only making money for themselves.  They have adjusted pricing to consume nearly all of the profits.
2) I pool mined BTC, with the coins I mine now I solo mine.
3) I did both depending on the coin, and the profit after power costs.  Electricity costs are math.  The algorithm is profitable at my power cost or it isn't.  My garage housed the equipment fine, and the noise didn't bother me in the house.

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Want to know why cryptocurrencies are going down? on: December 14, 2018, 03:49:47 PM
More and more voices are telling that currently Bitcoin is oversold, which is an unnatural situation.

Sadly this is a self perpetuating situation.  Miners are forced to sell more and more of their coins as the price goes down, so they can fund their mining operations, so it keeps the price low in situations like this.  When the price is up, miners can hold more of the coins as profit.  Last time it took 3 years for everything to get better.  It's time once again for us to wait.

Turns out, many Bitcoin debit card companies have closed, because of Visa decision to have absolutely nothing with cryptocurrency. So, after a few unsuccessful attempts to get a card, I decided I'd rather pay someone for the service of ordering a normal virtual card and thus using Bitcoin from my project fund to order online services I need for the project (Github, Slack, etc., nothing fancy).

Because I'm willing to send money up-front, I'll take offers only from members with established reputation / trust feedback. State your price for ordering the card and percentage you want from the Bitcoin payments to top-up the card.

have you looked at https://bitpay.com/card

They have a Visa card, and you can load it with your phone.
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [11.2kW SOLAR/WIND/MAN] NastyMining Green Energy Project ☀️💨💪🔋 on: February 03, 2018, 02:10:56 AM
I spoke with a representative from Tesla today and was told that they have submitted a plan to the electric company to allow for "the removal of the roadblock" holding back all battery projects from moving forward.  They plan to have final approval in 4-6 weeks and will update me at that time.

I don't know where you are located, but if you are in california and you are on NEM1 or NEM2 I would be very careful about installing your powerwall.  The powerwall will change your "power plant" and will invalidate your NEM grandfather.  This could result in significant costs when drawing power from the grid.  If you are not in CA, and that is someplace in the thread I apologize.  I am in CA, and have solar and I am on NEM2.  My buddy recently installed a PW and it put him on NEM3 which carries a 7 cent cost per KW when drawing generated power out of the grid.  I was shocked.

I don’t recall reading anything that said it were possible to invalidate my grandfathering. I’ll make sure to keep that in mind though. I’m in AZ. As you are well aware, nobody is more anal than California lawmakers, so hopefully AZ is a little more open to advancements.

You may be safe in AZ.  I don't know the laws there.  As CA has moved through the different NEM rules with the PUC they have decided that if you make a material change to your approved plant that it will change the NEM to the newest and current NEM.  Each time CA updates the NEM, they make it a little worse for those of us who own solar.

Zales at valley fair shopping mall here in the bay area takes bitcoin for everything in the store and gives a 3% discount. So this is already happening.
7  Economy / Services / [WTB]Miner Hosting on: October 27, 2017, 01:45:18 AM
I have 13 D3s and 8 L3+ that I am looking for mining hosting on.  My current provider, OregonMines is out of space.  I have PSUs and I am ready to ship.  If you have space available please PM me or post to the thread.

I have emailed all of the providers on the list in the forums, and unfortunately no one really seems to have space until late December or January.  So I was hoping....

If any of your have recommendations for hosting providers I would also love to hear them.  Thanks!
8  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitcoin.com Pool, 110% PPS on: September 30, 2017, 05:21:53 PM
Could not tell you. I left when it stopped being 120%.
Which happened very quietly.

At Viabtc now. They switch between BTC and BCH depending on profitability.
Past 24 hrs. BCH has been 169% more profitable than BTC.

EDIT: The Pool has found 44 blocks in the past 6 hours.
I used Viabtc for a while.  I am back to bitcoin.com.  They are at 110% PPS, and they have an auto URL that switches between BCH and BTC.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The SegWit activation was a joke? on: August 28, 2017, 12:56:14 PM
It has almost nothing to do with bitcoin cash. Segwit activation is the first step towards adding new features to bitcoin - it doesn't magically speed up all transactions just by being activated. Next all exchanges, wallets and service need to start using segwit transactions for it to actually ease pressure on fees and block sizes. So far only very few segwit transactions have been made as most transactions are still normal transactions and they do not get faster or cheaper just because segwit is activated.

On the other hand what you're currently seeing with fees going up and transactions being delayed is a concerted spam effort coordinated by people trying to make it look like the bitcoin blockchain is congested and needs a controversial 2x upgrade in November which is being pushed by the NYA miners when most of the userbase and developers are against it and will not agree to their threats. It's artificial and does not represent the real economy situation.
This totally makes sense sir! Desperados are trying hard to hijack the whole thing. I seriously doubt money is the cause of their desperation.

Maybe next quick solution should be making Bitcoin resistant to spam attack. it's so far their only way to harm the Network.

Good night good people!
I agree, lets use a large variable block size so that spam doesn't matter. Oh, wait...
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Cash Is Now More Profitable to Mine Than Bitcoin on: August 19, 2017, 09:07:56 PM
Where does BCH stand in relation to a coin(BTC) that people consider putting in their IRA? How is it any different from the nth copy of litecoin?

The more interesting aspect of the BCH phenomena is what stops financially prepared people from infinitely forking BTC in a parasitic attempt to further suck money out of the BTC brand?

Yeah, the sad thing is we could have just made the BTC block size larger and avoided the entire mess.

Yes I do realise the 'retard' did it on purpose and knew it would cause problems for bitcoiners, but in the assumption that BCH would replace BTC.

But that's even worse than doing it by mistake ...

BCH was claimed to have been created to over come the problem of the UASF.
Once that problem was removed, BCH should have disappeared.
Since it didn't disappear, it means that Bitmain and ViaBTC purposely caused problems for Bitcoin, when they could have simply avoided them with a few lines of code change.
Yes I do know it's only a few lines of code change, I've done it before for testing purposes.

So, what's better?
1) Calling him a 'retard' for making a mistake (not the case) or
2) Lynching him up for risking screwing around with everyone's Bitcoin wallet who runs BCH ...

I worded it as 1), but since it really is 2), when and where's the hanging?
I think we should never advocate violence, and I know you were not, you were just joking. Many people, especially those who mine on your pool look to you for the solid explanations of things in the BTC ecosystem.  If you soften your description of a complex situation like this one, then the people who depend on your insights will be unprepared to make good choices.  In November when 2x should be kicking in, all of us will look to you for technical explanations and leadership WRT where we should point our hash, and who we should bring pressure to.  If this was a mistake maybe we go one direction, if it was on purpose maybe we take a different action.

I know it is a pain in the ass, but you are a leader in our community because of your pool, and because of the time you take to explain how Bitcoin works.  So that puts you in a position of responsibility when the folks look to you for insights.

Meanwhile, whoever the retard was who coded the changes for BitCH, unbelievable how stupid he was.
He clearly had no idea about the fact that people run Bitcoin wallets, duh! and Bitcoin will exist for way longer than that scam.
His wallet screws up or overrides the Bitcoin wallet by default, and uses all the Bitcoin ports, folders and even the same node list lookup.
This all means that they're using the place on the internet (and on your computer) that Bitcoin uses and causing issues doing so.
Every altcoin knows not to use the Bitcoin settings/ports and channels ... except for this retard.

i.e. someone running a BitCH node connecting to a Bitcoin node ... duh how stupid is that ... and the cause is that the guy who coded it didn't bother to use their own ports.
I guess it required him to know what he was doing and spend 30 seconds changing them Tongue

I agree, there isn't a good reason to mine BCH for the moment, but as things change, it may become time to rethink.  The most interesting part of your post what the part I quoted above.  I am surprised you are taking this position with "BitCH".  It seems apparent to me... that the "retard" who coded BCH used the same ports, and the same node list lookup... on PURPOSE.  I don't think that the folks who created BCH plan for it to be an altcoin.  I think they plan for it to replace BTC.  Maybe when the Blockstream zombies fail to turn on the 2x part of Segwit2x, or who knows why or when.  I realize that my opinion is not unique and there is a ton of this going around on some of the reddit pages.   But any way you slice that pie, I think it is unlikely that they made a mistake or didn't know what they were doing.  I think it was cold and calculated.  That doesn't mean what they did was good or right, but I believe it was with purpose, and not because he was retarded.

Obviously Kano, my understanding of life the universe and everything BTC pales in comparison to yours, but at minimum something to consider.

So with the hashing power lost that went over to bitcoin cash, it means that in average for the network it should be taking a bit more time to mine those 12.5 bitcoins until a network difficulty update comes over. So the flow of new bitcoin will be slowed down until network diff adjustment, right?

It looks like not very much went over to bitcoin cash and even more than that amount has been brought online in the last 2 weeks as there is still an expected diff increase of 8.12% in 17 hours.

Well, we still have BTM powerhouse continue pumping out S9 machines. The appreciation of btc will also revive more previously unprofitable older rigs.

At the colo I am in we were finally seeing the s7s powering down and with the price up they stopped turning them off.  Right now BCH is about half as profitable as BTC but with the difficulty increases and the fact that the BCH difficulty is going down we may begin to see some more hash moving.

17  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitcoin.com Pool, 120% PPS on: June 16, 2017, 05:52:08 AM
Probably competing with BTC.Com's 119% PPS-like system. I'm staying on Kano and smaller pools but nice to see competition in the pool side of things.

Kano runs a fine pool, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that the bitcoin.com pool is "large".  It's under 100 PH.
18  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Best Pool For a 40 - 50 Th Mine on: June 16, 2017, 05:50:02 AM
P.S. I never said your silly pool was "charging huge fees" - but I ignored your last post for lying that I said something that I never did.
For this month, assuming luck is as expected, your pool is charging a ~9% expected fee ... and saying your pool is always having bad luck simply says people shouldn't mine there, it doesn't excuse your pool currently charging that ~9% expected fee.

Kano, Now Bitcoin.com is paying 120% PPS.  Where does that put us with the effective fees of the pool?
Well my pool's average block size this month so far is 123%
So that would be taking that 3% out of 123% as fees Smiley

Edit: though since you seem to keep pushing this point, I'll add that so far this month luck has also been 109% on my pool ... so that's averaging 133.9% PPS so far on my pool Cheesy
(last month was 124.1% and the previous month was 162.33%)
https://kano.is/index.php?k=blocks

You are right, I enjoy pushing the point.  I sincerely hope you know that I do it in good fun, and not to troll you or pick a fight.  That isn't my intention.  I would love to get a 162.33% effective payout, all I need now is to find a pool that signals BU and pays that rate.  I don't suppose you would signal BU or another non-segwit large block?  I know based on your other messages you seem to not be a segwit fan.
