2  Other / Meta / Re: There's enough merits, if hoarders aren't selfish. on: June 03, 2024, 01:33:01 PM
Most people are sending the smerits they have to posts, only few people are hoarding smerits. Some of them are not very active on this forum than to see some questions and answer them.

Or do you mean that there are some merit sources that are hoarding smerits? You can report them to theymos if you notice that. Theymos will likely reduce their merit allocation or remove them. Theymos like merit source who makes use of the smerits he is sending them.
He/she was talking about users who are not merit sources but have enough smerits and they decide to hold onto it instead of sending it out which is a normal thing every user of this forum who's not a merit source can do since they can independently decide what to do with their smerit since they are not merit source.
This is why I don't see any usefulness in the topic raised by the OP.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't you think you should invest in Bitcoin instead of burning your money in fire on: June 03, 2024, 01:10:15 PM
Every juvenile once made a mistake at a certain point in life but what determines the gravity of the mistake (either in terms of spending, no decision making, or the wrong company) is the society where the juvenile grow up in and the model of living of his/her family.
The major things affecting us today are because some parents themselves are still kids in terms of maturity and the earlier we correct all this the better we have a society where we will see few or no youths with drug problem.
OP, it is good you learned the hard way, the better is for you to prevent your young ones from making the same mistake you did and let them know the importance of Bitcoin investment.
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Make this an habit on: May 31, 2024, 07:47:17 PM
Extra security precaution is not bad at all, if you are with me on this one then let's go.

For all hot wallet users, this advice is a plus and if you carefully think about it you will see how helpful this can be..

We are used to importing Recovery seeds typing typing the words using the keyboard on our phones but how about using the screen to fill the complete words instead?

Even if your keyboard is spying on you this will prevent it from happening.

[snip]

As you can see from the image, you don't need to type out Guard or Guitar, all you need to type using your keyboard is the first and second alphabet, select the rest using the wallet words guesses to complete the words.

Your keyboard won't know the full words as many words start with the letter G and U, and also other words.

Make this an habit.
The idea seems nice but it still doesn't provide any security from spies. Yes, your keyboard won't know the full words but the spy can predict the remaining letter using the exact strategy you adopted or using the recovery seeds list.
The best solution is to prefer your device to any form of attack or spy and not use a mobile wallet for a huge crypto fund.

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IS BITCOIN NOW IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION FROM ITS INITIAL GOAL? on: May 29, 2024, 11:22:43 PM
This may be a question that bothers me in my heart and mind who thinks that Bitcoin as part of cryptocurrency has deviated from its initial goal which was intended to fight banks
You get all wrong here. Bitcoin's initial goal was not to fight banks but to provide solution to the drawback in the banking and monetary system create by the Fed.

I think it has now moved towards a commodity project for example (DeFi, NFT and etc) rather than being a legal alternative means of payment, from that question I want to get enlightenment from all members about whether bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have changed from their original goals? Hopefully this will be material for constructive and enlightening discussion
Bitcoin has not moved towards the commodity movement but the spot ETF which was approved and a lot of crypto enthusiasts were happy about the cash inflow it will inject into the market is a platwork that will treat BTC, and other accepted ETFs as fungible tokens. However, this can be correct if more people from the community choose self-custodial investment holding over spot ETF.

In addition, the user DM and the link he/she provided for the task work on my mobile phone but are not shown on some browsers on my computer.

Have you spoken to the user who performed this task for you?
He is probably the best person to help you, as he was the one who did this work and should know how it works.

Or have you lost contact with that user?
Yes, I have spoken to the user about it and what he/she said is that others can see everything. What I only noticed is that my Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers don't show his/her messages.

The problem is trying to describe to us about the link and what's happening without giving us any clue what the link is about. Is it some code? An external link or forum link?
Maybe a screenshot could also help?

Try opening the link in new private window mode or incognito mode of those browsers that are not displaying and tell us if there is any change.
Some browser extensions also block some content such as uBlock Origin, so check them out too.
The task is about ANN thread creation for a casino and I never use uBlock but what I use is Kaspersky Total Internet will handle the duty of uBlock. Nevertheless, I don't think that is the case since the Ann shows on my Brave browser.

In addition, the user DM and the link he/she provided for the task work on my mobile phone but are not shown on some browsers on my computer.

Ohhh perhaps the problem could be on your PC or PC browser 🤔

Did you also use the browsers which did not work on your PC? I would also suggest checking your anti-virus [on your PC], perhaps it was falsely flagging some stuff -- some AVs offer protection on browsers afaik. I agree with Jerome too on extensions, they could also break some stuff so try to toogle them and do sum trial and error.
My antivirus always pops up a notification and also provides a list of the blocked virus, etc. But there's nothing like preventing things related to Bitcointalk.

A high-ranking member of this forum sent in a link to something I asked him/her to execute for me but it was blanked even when he/she sent me a DM it is also blanked (meanwhile when I checked everything with other browsers on my computer only Brave browser works and I never block, or put the user on my ignore list) and I can clearly see DMs from other users on the browsers the user messages is not showing.

In addition, the user DM and the link he/she provided for the task work on my mobile phone but are not shown on some browsers on my computer.
A user sent you a DM (forum PM) and you can not see the contents?
Have you tried to quote his PM and check if you are able to read the contents.

May be it's because of the contents causing the browser issue otherwise you would not be able to see any other messages too.
Yes, I quote his/her message but it's still blanked. I even sent the user a DM maybe he/she will see mine but he/she is yet to be online.

In addition, the user DM and the link he/she provided for the task work on my mobile phone but are not shown on some browsers on my computer.
Did the person who sent you the personal message use any links that are banned from this forum such as mixer platform links?
Have you tried clearing your computer's browser data? or did you login to the account on your mobile phone or any other device? does that message show there? If it's showing up on your other devices then it's definitely a problem with your computer's browser. no bugs in the forum.

I haven't heard of any problems before so I don't think the forum might have such a bug. Because if it was a forum bug then many more users would have faced such problem

I'm not sure he/she has any links that have to do with the mixer since the ANN is about the casino ref link the team requested to be added to the ANN.
Yes, I logged in to my account on my mobile browser and everything was fine.
I have not cleared my browser data cause I have something I have been working on for months since I have not finalized and I don't want to lose it.

8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: People are interesting talking more about their success stories. on: May 20, 2024, 09:05:07 AM
I like what you pointed out because many Bitcoin investors and traders mostly showcase their success stories while not letting people know about their failure/lost stories. Meanwhile, this has somehow led to a lot of newbies cause it gives them the impression that investment in BTC is only about profit-making.
This happened most especially in the crypto trading space and the sad truth is that it makes some newbies exit the crypto market while some say BTC is a scam. Therefore, I hope everything reading this will also do the newbies the favor of letting them know crypto investment/trading doesn't always result in profit.
9  Economy / Economics / Re: This Will help you to predict next years and position yourself better way on: May 13, 2024, 10:55:08 AM
Smart money and bigger guys knows always more so they move first always.
Let's take for example: before the middle east wars ukraine war and NATO establishment there was defence and military IPO a lot of them and smart money moved in.
Now the smart money moving into btc ...what we see from that move ? Well btc is decentralized we gona see over the next years a lot civil unrests changing the system and people Go against their goverments the winner here will be bitcoin.
Bitcoin is not the solution to every problem. We should be prepared for the unknown now that smart money has moved into BTC because they always believe in dominating the market which example is what the market has been experiencing ever since the BTC halving happened years ago before the smart money moved into the BTC market we all know the multiplier the halving always generate.

So smart money knows that they have to hedge them with decentralized asset the bitcoin interesting thing are that before Georgia situation started like right now the country all ready become crypto friendly country and look at now the situation there only gona be starting.
When we need btc it's most when the mainstream infrastucture including banking financial system might not working or will be limited use and with restrictions.
So what is btc it's hedge against corrupted system hedge against uncertainity and freedom of your wealth in times of Crisis smart money knows about this.

It is always good to see an acknowledgment of BTC from the government but we shouldn't ignore the fact that whatever has an advantage will always have a disadvantage.
The smart know BTC is the hedge against the fiat inflation crisis but unfortunately, they are playing their dominating game to maximize their possibilities in the BTC market.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does the world know about Bitcoin? on: May 12, 2024, 06:36:33 PM
To me i think there are some part of the world that still don't know anything about Bitcoin, because there are people in USA, UK, Australia, Canada, China, etc. even in Nigeria there are people that don't know anything about Bitcoin, they always think that Bitcoin is a scam, but people that know about it are making thousand of Dollars,($)
If an individual has the impression that Bitcoin is a scam then it's not that the person doesn't know about Bitcoin, he/she is just blinded by the negative news he/she heard about it. What happened in this situation is that the person lack the knowledge about BTC purpose and potential.

I think they don't know that we are in a digital world now.
We are in the 21st century and I don't think there's someone on earth who still doesn't know that we're now in a digital age with the government encouraging digital payment.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Will always Survive on: May 09, 2024, 04:11:14 PM
Bitcoin will remain a leader in any respect. In terms of market capacity, it may be displaced in the future.
Don't you think your statement is somehow contradicting? If you believe Bitcoin can be displaced in the future why would it remain the leader in any respect?

In terms of fees, there are cheaper blockchains. In terms of privacy or development, there are better projects, but in the end, Bitcoin remains Bitcoin, and with all the problems of scalability, there is still betting on it, which will gain it demand that will make it. Among them are among the best cryptocurrency options.
In terms of fee and privacy, there are already some options that can be used in the Bitcoin network but only a few in the crypto community acknowledge. In the end, everything points out that most people are only after profit-making from the market.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now that Bitcoin halving have been completed, what next? on: May 06, 2024, 03:56:13 PM
We have yet to know which direction will Bitcoin take after the halving. As of now, it seems there's a correction. But this doesn't necessarily mean Bitcoin is taking the downward direction. This could merely be a quick correction brought about by individuals or institutions dumping. I still feel like the overall sentiment remains bullish. There might still be an ATH at least a year from now.

I don't think Bitcoin halving determines whether there will be more Bitcoin-related innovations or not. The rate of adoption determines that. However, the halving has indeed encouraged a different kind of innovation in Rodarmor's Runes.

The Bitcoin halving creates hype. It's a widely talked about event on social media and elsewhere, so I guess it could have also attracted certain people to get to know Bitcoin.

Of course the Bitcoin halving creates hype. You don't see chains with a similar mechanism getting "pumped" these days (Litecoin). After each halving event, comes a period of market correction. It's up to you to determine when to buy more BTC and when to sell. As long as you're able to make profit, nothing else matters.

If you really believe in BTC, then you should focus on its utility instead of the price. Mainstream media, whales, and companies often manipulate the market with their comments/actions. Prices could either go up or all the way down the drain in an instant. As long as the core BTC blockchain remains decentralized, nothing should be able to stand in its way. Hopefully, it will last way beyond the last halving of 2140. Cheesy
The Bitcoin halving creates the hype you're talking about because of the benefit that always comes with it and how it controls inflation in the BTC market. It is the hype that literally leads to more traffic in the market if not most institutions won't have to consider filing for the spot ETF before the halving. Imagine what would have happened if the BTC spot ETF was filed by BlackRock and others after the halving.

Having said that, I dislike the impression and believe that after profit off the market, nothing else matters, seriously?
I believe it's not nice for anyone to have such an impression when people are doing more than that by their support for the BTC node, and the creation of things that will keep the market healthy.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto's last message on: April 24, 2024, 05:23:14 PM
Satoshi's last message before his disappearance was that he has 'moved on to other things'. Now my question is this, if actually Satoshi Nakamoto saw a good vision of what Bitcoin will turn out to be in the future, why then did he decided to move on to other things instead of focusing more on the Bitcoin project to make sure that he also took part in achieving the adoption of this digital currency? So unfortunate Satoshi should have been the one to answer this question.

I've moved on to other things
People make certain decisions for a certain purpose, and some things are more important than what we want. Besides, I am talking about something that can make people ignore the money aspect while they dedicate themselves to something else. An example is when the previous CoinMarketCap sold it to CZ because he needed to spend more time with his family it is not that he didn't see CMC flourish in the future but his family needed him more.

The reason why Satoshi decided to move to another thing despite knowing the good vision of Bitcoin is something we don't know but I believe it's worth it for him and his family.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where best to enjoy this forum... on: April 24, 2024, 05:06:01 PM
A look at the design of these forum speaks louder for it self... Saying you might not enjoy it using some devices...
When writing or reading I guess you know how it is with your android....
I didn't try it until reluctantly I decided to open bitcointalk.org on a computer system. Over there the difference was alarming compared to using your phone...
As much as it can be used on phone it is best with a computer system... I even noticed that without a computer system some challenges or updates one will not be able to follow up...

Every platform is always better on the computer than on the phone and that's something that has to do with phone capacity it is not the website is mobile compatible. Besides, if you check some applications on the mobile and the computer version of it you'll see that the mobile version always lacks some functionalities which is available on the computer app version.
15  Economy / Gambling / Re: What do you want to see in casino reviews? on: April 21, 2024, 10:40:55 PM

.

Reading the possitive and negative reviews of a casino is a must. Cause the important of reading the negative reviews is we will know what are the possible lapses of that casino, and by the help of that we can avoid such things. Also the best thing to do is to read the positive reviews of course cause we will know that casino is trusted enough or not.  Also the experience of the other gambler are our references to do so Inorder to win a good amount of Money.

Reading the negatives is a great think to do, but it is also worth noticing how they are written. If you think of it, you would normally ignore a site in which you did not have a good experience in general. You just do not waste your time thinking about it, however a negative review is a clear warning sign that there is something really wrong with the site as the user seeked some type of revenge or setting a warning.
Reading up single negative or a couple ones wont really be something enough for you to make out some conclusions on which if you do have doubts about being that legitimate feedback then you could really be always having that in depth research and analysis in regarding about the site if you are really that eager on playing into it. When it comes to reviews then it could neither be false or something that would really be legit.
Just dont make yourself that get easily believe with just a couple of positive or negative and make out that outright decisions.
I supported what you said because we can't know the genuineness of a review just by noticing how they are written since we're in a century where online reviews are manipulated for positive/negative reasons. The only way to know the genuineness of casino reviews is through deep analysis with the use of crypto casino analytic website that still maintain good reputation till now.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everyone is celebrating about the fourth halving but what is this? on: April 20, 2024, 08:26:55 PM
Most of the high fee in Bitcoin is caused by the Ordinals NFT on the BTC network and the sad thing is that the project continues to get support from naive people.
Having said that, the block halving has nothing to do with the hike in the network transaction which is determined by the level of the network congestion.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you stopped using bitcoin for small transactions completely ? on: April 19, 2024, 10:36:03 PM
Reason why people stop using Bitcoin for small transactions varies but I believe the transaction is not mainly the reason because they can use the lightning network to avoid paying high transaction fees.
From my perspective, I don't use Bitcoin for small transactions to keep my bag intact cause I don't want to waste any, especially now that halving is approaching.
18  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you feel that the global economy is declining? on: April 19, 2024, 02:27:04 PM
One of my colleagues told me that his salary is lower now than it was five years ago. Sadly, the price of goods is rising.
He/she was right. Although the salary paid to workers now is increased from 5 years ago salary but judging by the fiat currency de-value it is much lower than the previous year's salary and this shows that the global economy is on a downslide motion.
Sadly, the government never agree to this and always tell the people everything is fine while the main cause of the problem start from the yearly printing of new fiat currency.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold vs bitcoin in a WWIII scenario on: April 14, 2024, 04:11:50 PM
I got into bitcoin because I believe that the monetary system is guaranteed to end in hyperinflation.
Bitcoin is honest money, if governments allow it to be that. It is not a hedge against hyperinflation, but it is a more honest substitute for the current monetary system.

While bitcoin is not a hedge against inflation, gold is. The goldprice has a long history of soaring when the monetary system fails.
I have never seen the goldprice crash in times of war, but correct me if I am wrong. During WWII, the gold price doubled.
When I first read your statement I first believed you were someone who understood the concept of Bitcoin when said it's the best alternative to the current monetary system, but I was surprised when you saw it as an asset that's not hedged against inflation when its performance during the worldwide total lockdown that was caused by the Covid-19.
If you make the statement due to the market performance after the Iran attack it means you don't understand the things that always influence the crypto market and gold price(Mind you, some governments/organizations always make a profit when attacks like Iran happen).

Believe it or not, it's a political strategy.

If the scenario for the coming months and years is that we are heading into WWIII, and I truly believe that we will, what is your investment strategy for crypto? In times of heavy monetary inflation/ war threats I expected the BTC price to soar, just like gold soars. In reality what we have seen is that BTC crashes hard and precious metals soar.

I think I should sell my assets prior to a major war, and buy in after the crash
War issues always lead to panic sales in the crypto market while 98.9% of it always leads to a soar in the price of the Gold market but that doesn't mean BTC is not a hedge fund against inflation.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: All about "stuck" transactions and what you can do to fix them on: April 12, 2024, 09:23:27 AM
If I set nSequence to be 0xffffffff and broadcast that transaction.
I think this is a regular transaction cause the nSequence is the UNIT_MAX. It ignores nlocktime[1] and RBF, so it cannot be double spent by you.

[1] https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/NLockTime

- Jay -

Thanks. But does it also mean that anybody else won't be able to double spend it even if they have the private key?
Technically, yes. This is if she uses the exact nSequence you used.
The response of the transaction, when you want to double-spend, is determined by the nSeqequence you use and if the nSequence is equal or less than UINT_MAX (0xffffffff) the nLockTime will automatically ignored which means the transaction will not be accepted into any block.
