1  Economy / Speculation / How to Identify a bitcoin rally on: February 12, 2021, 12:46:51 PM
Found this interesting piece that goes back into history and tries to identify why a rally will sustain or not -
Some valid points - some not so agreeable -  essentially gist is that institutional investors/backing is driving the rally - so as long as there are new ones, ( like the recent BNY Mellon ) , the rally will continue

2  Local / Press & News from India / Re: How do I avoid losing btc by trusting btc companies ? on: April 18, 2020, 05:41:13 AM
Nicely put. Thanks for the pointers.
Yes, Its good to put some restrain on blind investments

The article says that some Ayushi Jain stole the BTC from a hard wallet using a passphrase. I don't know why multisig isn't used in such cases by such "partners" who are trying to use BTC for funding their companies.

So coming to your question, do not invest in these startups if they come in the form of ICO's, Airdrops etc etc. That time is long gone and it has always been a risk. Most of the time, there is no guarantee that the founding team members will continue to work or even if they do, whether they will find any takers for their projects. This has happened to a lot of devs/ founders who raised money using BTC. Many people also contrast this situation with the usual VC/ Angel-investor setup where there is a team that monitors/ guides the startup and the money is dependent on delivery.

In case of investment with BTC, These startups have no incentive to deliver as they have their millions even before they have started working. In case you feel any of these ICOs to be legitimate enough, make sure you check it with the people here at the forum as there are a lot of people in the reputation section who bust/ identify scams for a living here.

Lastly, if you are yourself a founding partner, use multisig and ensure exclusivity of your private key.

This is basically what I was expressing in another thread. If you are playing a 50/50 odds then every game is independent. Meaning if you lose one game the next game you still have those odds. You don't suddenly have better odds for your next game.

What ever odds you play -  every game is independent - not just for 50/50 .

Now that Sanders is out of the race ,  there is money on the table !
There's still some money to be made on a bet on Biden ...

@Betwrong Nice bet  on that . 6K - 6.5K
Wonder it would be safer to bet on three close ranges
even if you had put 1K Sats on the three ranges
6K - 6.5K
6.5 K - 7K  and
7K - 7.5K ,
you would have still made money !

I'm actually thinking on doing just that. Considering the current settings for Bitcoin price betting, you can target a pretty big range, $3k, with 3 bets:

If the outcome odds will stay the same 16 days later, I think it's worth trying.

Also betting 1 k sats with the highest possible payout, like this, for instance:

IMO, Thats a good idea . You can afford to really widen the spread .

But you should be waiting till around the last week ( 23rd to be precise ) when the betting closes. ( And then calculate the relative volatility around the last week and make a guess based on that ) .
$10K+ levels this month is very much possible - given the halving is next month !
Good luck on this one .. Lets meet offline . ( message me - and we can exchange notes )

if I have changed my homepage to other page with the same main domain,  will my ads any problem ?

Nope, they'll work just fine. So an ad for abc.com would still show up on abc.com/xyz

What if it is a dynamic page everytime (like a permalink on wordpress ?? )
Will the ads still add up ?

March ended with the BTC price ranging between $6,001 - $6,500, and the winners received a 4.2 multiplier on their bets.

Where do you think the BTC price will end up at the end of April? Any option between $6,500 - $8,000 looks attractive right now, but you never know!

Get your Bitcoin Price bets in by 23rd April, and win BTC!

~
Honestly nobody really imagined it would be between $6k-$6.5k

I did. I bet only 1k sats on that range, because I do it for fun, not to make money with it, and I had my fun, I won with even higher than 4.2x multiplier

that was so because of the Time Weight Multiplier, I suppose.

Regarding where the BTC price will end up at the end of April, I personally predict $10k+, if the things with the coronavirus will start improving in the second half of April, and I think they will.

Anyways, I'm going to wait 17 more days until making my bets, because we are at the turning point at the moment, and the next two weeks will be decisive.

@Betwrong Nice bet  on that . 6K - 6.5K

Just curious ..
1) How do I get my account rid of captcha everytime I click ?
2) How do I get the Bonus BTC to my rewards ? Eg:  "Bonus +0.00000589 BTC added to all rewards!"

1) Deposit a certain amount of BTC. I think you can see the full requirements whenever you click on "Claim with No CAPTCHA"
2) Wager on multiplier/ betting. The amount depends on the progress to unlock higher amounts. Likewise, each claim reduces the bonus by a small amount.

If you don't want to wager you can just keep a balance above 100 USD to play without captcha.

Cool. Thats helpful .
And regarding the "Bonus BTC" that gets added, does it start at 0 and then I have to increase it by reaching 100% to the next bonus level ?

Great ! Thanks . Will try that .

For 2) I will have to slowly work my way up to get the additional Bonus ( with Wagers + Lotteries ) right ?

I wouldn't say it is that unlikely for BTC to end up in this range by the 1st of April.

I hate to be sound discouraging, but I reckon 1st April is too early especially with the Corona thing still ongoing and other countries still reporting cases and deaths.

Lets reserve this price range for May end , can we  Grin

I've had plenty of success with the Martingale strategy on the Auto-bet option on Multiply BTC. Set ON WIN to Return to Base Bet and ON LOSE to Increase Bet By 50% (although martingale requires doubling) and start. Unless you're VERY unlucky, this will garner you consistent gains. But here's something you have to take into account: have atleast a 100,000 satoshi balance, and start betting with 5-10 satoshi per bet to minimize the chance of losing everything at once.

Nope . Eventually you will lose *ALL* your money.
Try for some online Martinagale simulators and test it out !

You can't really know what bitcoin will do in 10 days, if we did know that we would have been richer much more than just gambling, we would have longed or shorted our positions with leverage to make insane amount of profit, but we don't know it at all.
True

Which is why it is also incredibly hard to make a wager on it as well, that is why 3rd most wagered, 5th most wagered type of results end up winning.
Yes, which is why most of the times - its always a mistake that ends up winning. If you go by trend/ calculation , you might most probably lose.
15  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Depositing crypto into BlockFi to earn interest, ok or stupid idea? on: March 21, 2020, 06:19:12 AM
DISCLAIMER :
1. I do not have an account with them .
2. This is a longread.

Came to know from some other source that blockfi.com DONOT have a data privacy policy .
Read - https://blockfi.com/terms/ for the details .
I read through their terms and conditions - Here are some points about privacy and security that I am putting across its explanation .

1.Exact words in Terms and Conditions (T&C) -
"The nature of cryptocurrency means that any technological difficulties experienced by BlockFi may prevent the access or use of a customer’s cryptocurrency. Any bond or trust account maintained by BlockFi for the benefit of its customers may not be sufficient to cover all losses incurred by customers."

Which means - they wont be liable to reimburse you for any loss arising from any acts of hacking/fraud ( even by the founders)  might mean that you will lose 100% of your investment. ( remember nicehash hack ? ) - well - its understandable .   Also means that you cryptocurrency is not insured and they are not liable for any reimbursement.

2. exact words in T&C -
"You agree to indemnify and hold us and our affiliates harmless from any losses, damages, suits and expenses, of whatever kind, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, which we may incur in connection with or arising out of your use of your Crypto Interest Account or our activities in connection with such account, .... "

Which means - same as above

3. Moreover, they do not handle your KYC data ( including any ID or SSN numbers etc ). They outsource it to a third party. You cannot hold blockfi liable for any loss of your data - the moment you sign the agreement. ( hackers/ acts of nature etc ). The details of the third party - I am not sure.
Note: ( If any one who knows the third party who is handling the personal documents and SSN - please let everyone know in this thread - I will spend time and do further investigation.

In a nutshell - Even though it looks like a well backed firm, for 5% interest and limited withdrawing powers to the investor, this seems a rather risky proposition.

Even if the interest rate is 7% per annum, why would anybody take that kind of risk with their money.
You are basically giving out your money to someone you don't know and hoping to get 7% more in return at the end of 1 year.
You know how good hackers are at hacking such exchanges and services right. I am sure I would never take the risk of investing my money just for a mere 7%.
I would rather hold it in my wallet and hope BTC to increase 7% more than it would normally do.

Am assuming full trust with the founders when I deposit my btc in startups. Is there a way I can be smarter about this ?

With an average fluctuation / day of $1240 per BTC , ( 1240 = volatility for the last 10 days ). It will be a rather risky affair to predict the value 10 days ahead . Given the betting range between each odds $500. ( eg: 6000 - 6501  ).
Simple rule - if the average volatility is less than your betting range ( $500 ) , its worth considering to take a shot at betting. Currently NO. Angry

After a drop to the low $5,000s last week, BTC has surged above $6,000 again.

With odds of 11.18 and 11.90, $6,001 - $6,500 and $6,501 - $7,000 respectively are great options to put your bets on.

Where will the Bitcoin Price end up at 23:59 UTC on March 31st? Only 3 days to go! Get your bets in and win a share of the 1.40 BTC prize pool!

The rewards are a direct function of the current BTC to USD rate . As teh BTC rate agains USD increases , your reward goes down.
Wondering why there are times when we earn more rewards, now it is slow even when I still have the same referrer holding a good amount of balance.

No , You cant . Again - its a probability game .
Martingale system is your best bet and what you are talking about . If you read up a little about the simulations around martingale, you will find how it gives  you a sense of winning - while you are actually just going to make a huge loss.

If you have a large enough balance and a good strategy you can go a very long time without going bust. The house edge tells you how likely you are to lose but if your balance is large enough you can make up for those losses before you run out of money.

YOU were not doing good. It was just that probability was in favor of you. You have no role to play in this other than clicking the 'BET' button. This is the dangerous thought that gets everyone ( including me ) into thinking that I have some role in influencing the outcome in the long run.

I know, but the day before i was doing so good, I had even thought of putting in some serious money.
Thank god i didn'tm it was only $5 investment, and in the end $20 lost
