buy linden dollars (currency of second life) with a credit card. Then use virwox to exchange those for bitcoin. That's really the only method I've seen out there

unique idea!  I hadn't heard about that method.  Maybe it's time I resurrect my avatar which I haven't touched in 5 years...

I have moved btc from mtgox to my QT wallet on home pc.  Seemed to work just fine without checking any of the green, open, or fee options.

Transfer BTC to bitfloor.com and then do ACH withdrawl for better rate. Or use fastcash4bitcoins.com where the rate isn't quite as good.

Bitfloor doesn't like my browser. I guess they don't want my business. It must be nice to be so successful that you can pick and choose your customers.

What browsing are your using?  Works well in Firefox, but haven't tried in any others.  I usually have 2 or 3 browser installations to use in case some site doesn't play nicely.

And Bitfloor was down for awhile yesterday and today.

Ooo, I was about to search for something like this as I was getting fed up of using Mtgox! Thanks! Cheesy

yep, feel the same way.  Mtgox just changed out their graphing system, but this could be a cool tool.

Thanks!

Seems many have both good and bad experiences with Bitinstant.  Seems to be the story with most exchanges these days.

But I will share my first experience with Bitinstant.  As several have done, I used my full Mtgox account number using a cash deposit from Bitinstant.  Because this was incorrect, my funds were stuck.  A sent a support request, and was sent a reply within a few hours.  They sent me the mtgox coupon code which I was able to immediately use.

This was my first btc purchase, and I didn't follow directions, so I figured I was screwed.  Thanks for the help Bitinstant support!

Following that, I have been pretty careful with all transactions.  Now I see that I have done it again.  Using Capitalone for a transfer to bitfloor, I created a deposit, got the email confirmation, and proceeded to send the same amount from the checking account.  However, I failed to notice that Bitfloor changed the exact amount I planned on sending.  $200 changed to $200.04.  Ugh, I sent exactly $200, so that is another chunk I might have to fight for since there system is looking for that exact amount.

Painful learning experiences...

I know, right? I'd be a millionaire. Oh well. There's still plenty of time to get into the bitcoin fun.

Hello all!

Very new to everything e-currency.  But having fun researching funding, transfers, wallets, and security.  Started with Mtgox, but with too much playing with it on vpn, they flagged my account, and now have to wait for verification.  Queue was 9500, and in a week I am at 6020.  So cash is sitting in there with nothing to do.

Since however, tried out bitinstant, bitfloor, dwolla, and have been buying and transferring small amounts.  A little scary watching the market price fluctuate so drastically.

If anyone else is watching this post, I am curious on why Mtgox would not let me withdraw and send bitcoin to SR.  I went through normal steps, but it came back saying my account was not verified.  I didn't think it was necessary to go through the entire verification when transfer such small amounts.  Can anyone confirm that the Mtgox account has to be formally verified in order to transfer coin to SR?

So does a Silk Road account have a built in wallet?

Yes, when logged into your SR account, click on the "Account" link at the top of the page. Once that page opens, you will see your Bitcoin address listed midway down the page. Copy that Bitcoin address, and if you want to transfer bitcoins from MtGox to SR, then just log into your MtGox account and click on the "Funding Options" link. Then where it says "Add Funds, Withdraw Funds, Redeem Codes", click on Withdraw funds. Enter the amount of Bitcoins you want to transfer to your SR wallet, and then paste the Bitcoin address you copied from your SR "Account" page. You may want to follow the jestre's advice though and do a small transfer first to make sure you've entered the right address and you havent botched something along the way. When you see the transferred amount show up at the top of your SR page where it shows your account balance then you know you've done it right and you can go ahead and transfer the rest. Hope that helps.

I am not sure how many people enter their full mtgox account number for a bitinstant transfer, but I am sure it is quite a few.  I just did the same thing, and support did answer.  They included the APIresult number which happened to be the mtgox redeem code.  I used that, and had my funds available immediately.

MTgox, could alleviate all of this by emphasizing that the full account number will not work.  I saw that they displayed the exchange account#, but I thought it was just a generic representation.

Try the API code in the Mtgox funding mechanism.

Event log now says the order is completed and the latest event is "Order executed - funds deposited at remote exchange" but the coins are not in my MtGox account.

I noticed that the bitinstant section on the add funds page on MtGox says my exchange account number is "120412" but I used what MtGox displays at the top of the page for my account number "M36120412X". Could this be why I'm not receiving anything?
