1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: HEX - First Blockchain Certificate of Deposit - DeFi on: October 30, 2020, 07:33:04 AM
When fiat currency is placed in a certificate of deposit in a bank then the bank lends out that capital to create economic activity.  When Hex is staked then what economic activity happens?

Nothing, and you get more tokens after they hold it for a certain time.
staking is generally to keep the network running and growing so when you deposit some money here you are helping the network itself to remain stable

Please correct me if I am wrong  Grin

Staking is more to keep coin owners to sell their coins, so that there's more buyer pressure, but once the stake is off, you get more coins and suddenly, there's more sell pressure.

As I thought.  A deposit into a Hex "certificate" (staking) serves no socially useful purpose.

3  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: So Richard Heart is a Bitcoin ponzi scammer too? on: December 15, 2019, 07:22:59 AM
It's interesting that the Hex project compares Hex to a Certificate of Deposit.  When you deposit money into a CD that capital is lent to another party who uses it for whatever and pays you interest for the privilege.  That is what gives your capital some sort of value.  With Hex staking the Hex just sits there and some code in a contract pays out "interest".  I just don't see how that defines any sort of value for your Hex?

I'm trying to cancel a BCAP trade.  Have placed the transaction successfully via metamask with many block  confirmations but nothing has happened.  TXID = 0xd9f9e79c143c0fdf2ea2461e6bf1744048e630eb0356686296bb7a9d22f14431.

Is Etherdelta known for just not executing the contract?

Can I use a BTC bitcoin-qt bitcoin directory as a fast synch for BTG?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]GPU Gold - Bitcoin Gold Mining Pool [Official Thread] on: November 15, 2017, 10:28:29 PM
This not strictly related to the pool but can I use a bitcoin core blockchain directory to sync BTG rather than sync from scratch?

Other POS tokens do not require the wallet to be open all the time to stake.  You get the same return whether the wallet is open or closed.  Of course you eventually need to open the wallet for a while to receive the stake.  In other words the stake you receive is proportional to your coin age rather how long the wallet has been open.

Is it the same for BCS/LCS?

I have tried to find the specification to watch the OMG contract in the ETH wallet but cannot see it anywhere.  Does anyone know the json interface etc?

Hi!

Did anyone sucessfully install the bitcoinABC wallet (link from post 1) and is in full sync? I installed it on a newly installed linux vm (no other wallets are around there) and syncing now. Anyone claimed their BCH with this wallet sucessully?

Thanks Smiley

I synched my ABC wallet from a copy of a pre-fork core datadir.   Not sure what you mean by claimed but I imported my BTC keys and BCC balance appeared.  You may need to do a rescan.

Can I run a bitcoinabc wallet and a core wallet on the same server?
Yes, if used one at a time - because they use the same port (8333).

Both also use the same data directories name - so you would have to write a script to start each one with their own dedicated blockchain and data directories.

Thanks - I guess that's why I see the ABC wallet connect to Core peers?  Any way to avoid that?

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Does anyone know how to mine BCC (bitcoin cash) solo? on: July 31, 2017, 05:03:40 PM
ViaBTC BCC pool is running.  The BCC chain is currently the BTC chain so it is mining BTC - has found at least one BTC block.  After the fork I presume it switches to BCC.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling on: July 24, 2017, 03:56:18 PM
I don't have enough time and speed to be able to download whole Bitcoin chain which is approximately of 175 GB. I have transferred my Bitcoins to Electrum wallet and have written down my Private Keys. I hope as of alternative I have done good and it should be fine to avoid any complication. Any thoughts of this would be appreciated.

I hooked the ABC wallet to a copy of the core blockchain - seemed to work fine.  You may want to delete the wallet.dat and peers files on the copy before you start up.

To avoid a full synch of the bitcoinabc.org wallet can I point it at a copy of the core blockchain?

why do you even need the entire blockchain, anything before the fork is irrelevant, it's old chain, so why not just truncate the chain and make it a smaller download?

Thanks but when I start the ABC wallet it starts synching from 8 years ago.  I don't know how to truncate a chain so can I use a copy of the current core chain?
