I'm new to this game but my guess is after Bitcoin becomes popular enough to be a household word, it will stabilize and the trading won't be so volatile. It has received an explosion of interest just in the last week, making it stronger IMHO. I as well am mostly interested in using BTC as an alternative currency for my craft business, not interrested in speculation buy/selling.

If your account represents a Bitcoin business or you are a developer, please post here so we can get you into the forum beyond. State your company, project in addition to what you wish to do on the forums. We will get you whitelisted promptly.

Godspeed in your endeavors and thank you for your service!

I just got 4 hours online time in, so I'm OK but wondering who OP Anonymous was, and how they can make such a promise? Am I the first to wonder this?  Huh

Ya, the passphrase is a good idea, even better is using just one letter from each word for the password, with some numbers and other characters added like so:
I take my cat for a boat ride 2 times in the morning; and 3 times in the evening

Using the last letter of each word gives a decent password:

Ieytratr2sne;d3sneg

Commit the phrase to memory so it's not stored anywhere, and open the volume on an offline computer. With such a password, I think Truecrypt is safe enough to store a volume in any digital location, public or private as long as there are no hints for the password anywhere besides the offline PC. I could be wrong however.

Brain wallets, paper wallets, and deep cold wallets are additional excellent ways of creating a secure wallet for occasional transacting.

What's a deep cold wallet?

And how about a small TrueCrypt volume, stored on a remote server? Not in www of course, and with a very secure hard-to-crack password.

OK, so I'm currently running Windows 7, should I feel more secure running a linux distro such as Ubuntu within VirtualBox for my wallet? Maybe put the iso in a Truecrypt volume in Windows, or have a Truecrypt volume in the Linux image to hold my wallet. Just thinking out loud, want to avoid having to boot into a different sysem to keep it easy and quick.

Moving funds from Paypal to a bank account is a routine thing, I don't see how it can be an issue.

Guess the Bitcoin Bandwagon is not such an easy ride, but that's ok - I mainly want to see how well they work from a merchant's point of view, selling real goods.

The Compleat Terminology Guide, I can't think of anything to add!

I just read through all 606 pages of this thread in 26 minutes, and my eyes are now turned inside out.  Cry

Seriously, I've been perusing this forum and some other bitcoin-related sites for a few hours on and off, trying to figure out the best way to get my feet wet. I don't plan on doing any bit mining, my hardware is old, but I do have things to market - been in woodcrafts for a long time and have been selling on Etsy, so I may try a personal shopping cart with bitcoin. I also create 3D graphics on a serious hobbyist level for occasional cash. Might try some light investing too. Name is Ken, from Wisconsin.
I like cheese, beer, and home brewed wine. I hate football.
