1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: June 11, 2017, 10:34:24 AM
Is it profitable? I bought one from Amazon and with default settings, about 10Gh/s I earned 0.00000716BTC the 1st day. So in about 5 years I will earn 0.01BTC (without calculating power cost) which is way too low.. If I did not do any mistake or misunderstood something it seems there is no point to use it.
Even if I increase frequency eg with 25Gh/s I will earn 0.01BTC in 2 years...
Please tell me if I am wrong.

With the current bitcoin difficulty, hashing at 25GH/s is not profitable. So yes, there is little point in using it. Your best option is to point your miner to solo.ckpool.org. It's like playing the lottery. You're unlikely to win, but if you hit a block, you get the full block reward.

If you look at post 383 (scroll up on this page), you will see that I posted this exact same problem with the solution that fixed my problem.

Prior to posting my question, I read the ENTIRE thread. You are probably referring to the posts listed below, but they don't answer my specific question. Yes, I understand the potentiometer turns continuously. Why would turning it counter-clockwise cause it to run hotter? Thanks for your help nonetheless if you feel I'm asking questions that have already been answered.

I know you're going to tell me to buy a multimeter, but for now, can you explain the operation of the potentiometer? I know it spins continuously but does voltage keep going up with multiple turns? Or is the voltage range found in a complete 360 degree turn? I had turned it counter clockwise by half a turn, but now it's running so hot (100mhz) that I can't touch it all at. Is there a way I can set it to the minimum voltage and work my way up?

Even at 100Mhz, my 2Pac runs so hot that I cannot touch the heatsink. The board is starting to yellow due to the heat. Is this a function of voltage and an I get to to run cooler with higher (or lower voltage)?

Hi, I'm running my 2Pac on my Raspberry Pi 3. I have always had periodic problems were upon launching cgminer, I was getting a "No Devices Detected!" message. This applied whether I was connected directly to the Pi or via USB 2.0 hub. I can normally resolve with a few reboots and plugging-in the 2Pac after I have started cgminer. Now I'm getting the message constantly. I can't get it to run.

When I go to USB management -> [L]ist all known devices, I see the following:

Code:
Bus 1 Device 24 ID: 10c4:ea60 GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Bitcoin Miner inactive
1 total known USB device
Hotplug interval:5
0 USB devices, 0 enabled, 0 disabled, 0 zombie

So it appears that my Pi and cgminer actually sees the 2Pac. Any suggestions to resolve the "No Devices Detected!" message.

EDIT: I turned up the voltage on the 2Pac and it seems to be working better.

In short: only some USB 3 powered hubs can be directly linked to rasp pi (Superbpag is one such known example where it works; USB 2 powered Plugable also works directly with pi, not sure it it is enough for 2pacs).
most USB 3 hubs would not work by themselves (it includes Anker), however, don't despair, there is a simple runaround: use non-powered simple usb hub (like USB2 Sabrent for around $6), connect it to rasp pi, then connect your powered hub to Sabrent, then it should work, providing that you push the button on Sabrent to activate the slot (it should shine blue).

TL;DR either return your USB 3 hub (non-Superbpag) and get Superbpag OR get a non-powered hub like Sabrent and use it as a bridge.

Thanks for this. My USB 3.0 powered hub is made by Anker. As described, it does not work on my Raspberry Pi for most (but not all) devices. I followed your advice and bought a simple (non-powered) USB 2.0 hub and connected it in-line between the RASPI and the USB 3.0 hub. Unfortunately, I'm getting the same result. When I plug the 2PAC into the USB 3.0 hub, cgminer still cannot see it.

At this point, it looks like I'm returning the 3.0 and 2.0 hubs and will try to find a good 2.0 powered hub (but they are hard to find!).

I've been running my 2PAC on a Raspberry Pi 3 but decided to invest in a powered USB hub. I have connected a HDD to the hub (it works fine) but cgminer is unable to find my 2PAC when it's connected to the hub. When I plug the 2PAC into the Rasp's USB ports, it's OK. How do I get cgminer to find the 2PAC plugged into the hub? Thanks!

If -- no WHEN I solve a block, will the good news appear in my stats at http://solo.ckpool.org/users/? Other than monitoring cgminer, is there anyway to know that I hit the jackpot? Or do 12.5 BTC just magically appear in my wallet?

Sweet, thanks! I have my 2PAC USB stick cranked up to 20GH/s! That's gigahashes people! At that rate, I'm bound to find a block eventually! lol

Awesome, thanks! So if I'm using a 2PAC, --suggest-diff 32 would be appropriate?

Also, on ckpool, they quote the numbers "shares", "bestshare" and "bestever". What is the significance of these?

Thanks again.

Hello, sorry for the noob question. I've searched this thread and did not find the answer.

What is the significance of ""shares", "bestshare" and "bestever"?

Thank you.

Hello, sorry for the noob questions.

1. What is the significance of the -p x flags?
2. When using ckpool, what is the benefit of specifying --suggest-diff 32

Thanks!

Hello! I am new to zpool and have a question about BTC payouts. Who covers the transaction fee? If I receive a 0.0005 payout on Sunday, isn't 0.0005 pretty close to the transaction fee to send me the bitcoin? If I'm willing to accept DASH (for example), would it not be preferable since the transaction fee is much lower?

Try without the flags.
Code:
./autogen.sh --enable-gekko

Yes, that totally worked. Thanks! I don't have my BM1384 yet - waiting on a delivery from Sidehack.

Hi! Sorry, but I'm a bit of a Linux noob. I'm following the instructions on how to install on Raspberry Pi and upon reaching this step:

Code:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=native" ./autogen.sh --enable-gekko

I'm getting the following errors:

Code:
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler works... *** Error in `gcc': double free or corruption (top): 0x01a43588 ***
no
configure: error: in `/home/pi/git/vthoang/cgminer':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details

My Raspbian is fully up to date and I'm running kernel v4.4

Appreciate any help you can offer to get this running. Thanks.
