1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: chrome extension to track BTC/USD rate on: December 08, 2013, 01:09:09 AM
why do you think so?

Code in extension is ready for inspection by default. You can download the extension and rename it to zip, and then unarchive.

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why is litecoin hyped so much when it doesn't add any value over bitcoin? on: June 25, 2013, 01:29:25 AM
Litecoin is different from bitcoin in following ways, however none of them is particularly useful and on the contrary are only less worthy.

84 million vs 21 millions: since bitcoin is divisible upto atleast 9 decimals and also micro BTC can be used for dealing with low amounts

faster blocks 2.5 minutes vs 10 minutes average: 6 confirmations of bitcoin are not equivalent of 6 confirmations of litecoin, so litecoin payments are usually confirmed after many more confirmations. It also wastes mining power because in litecoin, most of the time miners may start work with non-best blocks.

scrypt vs sha-256: since scrypt can be relatively efficiently run on CPU/GPU which means botnets can easily control a lot of hashing power. Also, scrypt is relatively less analyzed and used than sha-256, so it may not be more secure tha sha-256.

Technically, bitcoin does what litecoin in an equal or better way. Also, bitcoin testnet can be used to experiment with new features.

Why do we need litecoin that actually has monetary value?(around 2.7USD per LTC now) Is it just promoted by a group of people who missed the bitcoin get-rich boat?

Bitcoin is novel concept and early adopters rightly earn their rewards for the risk they have taken.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How will Ripple overcome competition from clones when it is open sourced? on: June 25, 2013, 01:28:41 AM
Clearly, not many people think it is fair that OpenCoin reserving 50 billion XRP to itself and distributing the other 50 billion XRP as per its own agenda.

When opencoin releases its code this year(as per its employees), what prevents another competent group of individual(s) to clone this and distribute their own xrp in a open, transparent way and doesn't keep ridiculous amounts of xrp to themselves? Why do you think these transparent and competent cloners will fail if you think so?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How exactly is Ripple decentralized when OpenCoin has the power to abuse? on: June 25, 2013, 01:27:54 AM
Let us assume in a best case scenario, the Ripple system gets opensourced this year and the 50 billion XRP are distributed fairly to many people in the world.

One of the reasons of having XRP currency is to prevent spam and provide safety to the Ripple network from abusing.

OpenCoin has about 50 billion XRP or even 30 billion XRP without the founders count. So they can technically use their massive XRP to harm the system if they need to. I have not reviewed how many different and harmful ways one can abuse the Ripple network if they have too many ripples.

Why does any single entity needs to have such amount of power over the network? Technically, for us to trust Ripple, we need to trust the OpenCoin entity forever. Even if OpenCoin people are good, what if their accounts got hacked and the XRP is with malicious people?

PS:
Got downvoted on stack exchange for asking this

14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Diablo Miner - accept 0 : reject : 0 hw error : 0 from last 2 hours, is this ok? on: April 08, 2013, 07:38:42 AM
what does below mean then if it didnt connect to bitcoind?

mhash: 1.4/1.0 | accept: 0 | reject: 0 | hw error: 0

I am trying to do solo mining.

Just restarted Diablo Miner and see this
[4/8/13 3:35:42 AM] Started
[4/8/13 3:35:42 AM] Connecting to: http://localhost:8332/
[4/8/13 3:35:43 AM] Using Apple OpenCL 1.2 (Dec  4 2012 18:26:30)
[4/8/13 3:35:45 AM] Added GeForce GT 330M (#1) (6 CU, local work size of 256)
mhash: 1.5/1.4 | accept: 0 | reject: 0 | hw error: 0
mhash: 1.4/1.4 | accept: 0 | reject: 0 | hw error: 0
mhash: 1.4/1.4 | accept: 0 | reject: 0 | hw error: 0
mhash: 1.3/1.4 | accept: 0 | reject: 0 | hw error: 0

netstat -a | grep 8332
tcp4       0      0  localhost.8332         localhost.64949        ESTABLISHED
tcp4       0      0  localhost.64949        localhost.8332         ESTABLISHED
tcp4       0      0  localhost.8332         *.*                    LISTEN
tcp6       0      0  localhost.8332         *.*                    LISTEN

which means miner is connected to bitcoin server and the accept is 0 since last 2 minutes Smiley

what does accept mean here and how long does it take usually on a consumer grade laptop (macbook pro)
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how much noise approx does an ASIC Miner 5GH/s will make? (Butterfly product) on: April 08, 2013, 07:36:21 AM

16  Other / Beginners & Help / If I have a lot of luck, would mining bitcoins with Macbook GPU is good enough? on: April 08, 2013, 07:31:53 AM
Is it true that though having more computational power will only increase the odds of winning, but if someone is lucky, they can solve and get bitcoins with merely a CPU/GPU desktop?
17  Other / Beginners & Help / How much network bandwidth is used when mining bitcoins ? on: April 08, 2013, 07:26:48 AM
