1  Economy / Gambling / Re: FAIRLAY - SPORTS BETTING for experts - highest liquidity, provably best odds on: June 03, 2017, 12:06:24 AM
betmoose and bitbet are rather primitive betting sites. Betfair, Betdaq, Smarkets and so on are more serious ones.

If by primitive you mean usable without needing a tutorial, then yes, they're primitive. You should make your own website fairlay.com more primitive.

I know that your site has the general standard for most betting sites....

There's no similarity whatsoever between fairlay.com on the one hand and bitbet.us and betmoose.com on the other.

Most exchanges do not have a standard format.
I don't think it will be so easy to get them all into one format Smiley

There is no published standard export format. That's half the problem.

And most exchanges do not use a standard export format. That's the other half of the problem.

Now if somebody with some expertise and credibility were to come up with a well-defined standard export format (in the style of an RFC or a BIP), that would solve half the problem.

The next step would be to get just a couple of exchanges to adopt that standard format. Why would they do it? Because every exchange is looking for features that its competitors don't have, and claiming to adhere to a published standard would be such a feature.

Once two different exchanges are using that standard format, it will be a lot easier to get the others to do the same -- so they don't get left behind.

But all of it has to begin with one person with the expertise and credibility taking the lead.

As the creator of a great coin-tracking website, you could do everybody a favor by coming up with some sort of standard transaction format that all exchanges could use. Maybe document it in a formal way.

Then try to persuade all the exchanges to allow export in that format. It would make life so much easier for everyone. I think they would listen to you.

Will your site ever have a tutorial and/or decent context-sensitive help?
6  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Joinmarket - Coinjoin that people will actually use on: May 08, 2017, 07:26:59 PM
Joinmarket developers, your software has been around for a couple of years. The documentation still sucks. So does the user interface, if you can call it one.

Have you considered doing some usability studies? Nothing fancy, just grab three or four friends/relatives/neighbors, ask them to install and use joinmarket with NO HELP FROM YOU while you quietly and patiently watch.

Then act on what you observe.

If you don't want to do the above, then would you please change the title of this thread? Make it "Coinjoin that hardly anybody will actually use".

Hey kkris,

I have just released the requested feature.

[... public portfolio with obfuscated link and a LOT of features ...]

I am impressed! You have not only implemented the basic feature, but added so many extras, and in such a short time.

You, Sir, are a programming wizard.

Feature request:

Allow sharing a long and obfuscated private URL that will provide a read-only view to anybody who has that URL.

The read-only view would include at least the amount and value of currently-owned each coin and the total balance.

BetMoose has significantly more features and visual bulk than a stripped down basic site like bitbet. So yes, it will be more intensive on your CPU and require more bandwidth (and time) to load. The 2 websites are not comparable in terms of page-load response based on their design.

We are not aware of any big/fundamental changes that can be made to improve the performance of the site, outside of getting faster servers. As BetMoose is run by volunteers, 100% of our fees already go toward hosting and operational costs. If you'd like to make a donation, we will get faster servers just for you.

So I think you're caught in a vicious circle here. Without more volume, you won't have enough income to pay for faster servers. Without faster servers, you won't have a speedy website. Without a speedy website you won't have enough volume.

Hello BetMoose, can something be done to speed up your website? Initial connection can take 10-20 seconds, even simple page loads take several seconds, and searches are slo-o-ow.

We're always working to make BetMoose as speedy as possible. Can you please try it on a different computer/mobile device, or different connection to first isolate the problem? If you still have issues, please email us!

I think your reply is a cop-out, and I'll explain why.

Your website has been around for a while, and I'm sure you know by now how speedy it is.

If you have designed it to be fast, and if it is fast, then I would have expected you to clearly say so, and tell me in no uncertain that the problem must be at my end.

If you know that the website is slow, then I would have expected you to acknowledge that, and say something about what you expect to do to speed it up.

You did neither.

So you essentially evaded the question.

In the meantime your speedy competitor (loads quickly, searches quickly) bitbet.us is getting all the volume.
