1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ubuntu 16.04 non-hwe: safe to upgrade to hwe now? on: June 28, 2018, 12:38:13 AM
Ok did a dist-upgrade, loaded 17.40 drivers and did the page size modification in grub, but still no difference. I suspect the dist-upgrade maybe didn't load the HWE stack or something.  Probably needs a full rebuild with 16.04.3 and try again.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / ubuntu 16.04 non-hwe: safe to upgrade to hwe now? on: June 27, 2018, 04:32:34 AM
Hi,
Running a small rig with 2 x RX580 under Ubuntu 16.04.  Just swapped from zcash mining to Eth and noticed my hashrate is very low - around 14MH/s per card under claymore 11.8 with amdgpu-pro 17.20.   I recall there was some issue with HWE and amdgpu-pro and had held back from HWE stack because of that.  Is it now safe to upgrade to HWE/latest kernel and latest x-org and is that likely to fix my hashrate?
Thanks

Getting this message, even after upgrading my wallet yesterday:

Code:
Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct!  You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade.

Wallet is stuck syncing 7 days behind,  Any clues?

My rig is running Debian 8 as it's old enough to have Xorg 1.16 and Fglrx in its repo while new enough to use Systemd with support to 2020. An X session needs to be running for libatiadlxx to initialize to monitor temps, fans and reclock.

Yes, I have another rig with a IP KVM attached and that solves the problem there, but I can't get the headless rig to start mining when X is running; it craps out with the good old MIT magic cookie error.  I've tried enabling remote desktop over IP but still no banana.

OK found a hack to get it working.  Installed Teamviewer, started graphical desktop session, started miner from separate ssh session (not GUI), disconnected GUI session.  Bit of a pain but best I've found so far.

I have 2 x r9 270x cards in a rig with Ubuntu 14.04 (the old fglrx drivers give much higher performance for those older cards and 14.04 is the last version with fglrx).  I can get it running headless but it isn't reporting temperatures - zecminer reports ADL initialization error.  To get it running headless I have to kill the X server first ("service lightdm stop").  After that it mines fine, but i want to see the temps.  I'm also not clear if it's obeying my config -ttli temp limits because of this.

noob question: a few weeks back my 950H/s setup was getting about 0.1ZEC about every 3 hours on flypool.  These days I am getting only 0.1ZEC every 5-6 hours.  What would cause this?  Increased difficulty?

Yes, the difficulty going up means it takes longer for the pool to find blocks. Less blocks found means less frequent payouts. You aren't getting 0.1 ZEC every 6 hours or even every 24 hours with 950H. With that hashrate you can expect about half that in 24 hours.

http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/zcash-mining-calculator/?h=950.00&p=600.00&pc=0.10&pf=0.00&d=1797696.37812936&r=10.00020000&er=0.10538829&btcer=2567.00460000&hc=0.00

Thanks.  You are correct re: payouts, it's 0.01ZEC per 5 hours or so.

will a 600W PSU be enough for a Kaby Lake rig running 2 x RX480 (Sapphire Nitro 8GB)?

A Kaby Lake CPU has a TDP between 4.5W and 91W, so not much information in here.

But never mind, for 2x480 a 600W PSU should be a good choice. Not very high costs, proper reserves and good load point for high efficiency during normal operation.

Thanks.  CPU is a core i7 7700.  Good to know re: PSU.

Just reinstalled Ubuntu. Re-syncing wallet but goddamn it's taking forever - probably 5 days so far and seems to be stuck around block 11,001.  Running the latest code from git but I'm seeing this statement in the wallet: "Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct!  You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade."

Could you let me know where you downloaded it from? Make sure it's from here.

Yes, it was from there.  Still stuck on block 11,001.  Do you want me to send logs or something?

I have fixed this with -reindex

hi claymore

I'm using ubuntu 16.04 with and 16.60 driver
only get around 150h on an rx480 8g
try the different setting but no luck.
working fine on windows.

any idea?

Same OS and driver as me, but I have R9 270X and only getting 10h/s.  I think it's all down to needing the exact right OS and driver combo as per Claymore posts.  I think you have to use 15.10 and proprietary AMD driver (Ubuntu 16.40 uses new amdgpu-pro stack).  Can't get any of my other zcash miners to work at all on this set up.

I have rx480 , ubuntu 16.04, 16.60 drivers and doing 300 H/S on my card.  Maybe reinstall OS/drivers.  My 380x on same rig doing 193-200H/S.  Any problems I mentioned before had nothing to do with Claymore - all Hardware issues like bad risers.  Claymore makes a solid product.

Thx.  Have tried again and now getting ~66h/s with my 270x.

I have two R9 270 (not x) in a Linux 14.04 box with the 15.12 drivers. Using 12.3.  I am getting 172 H/s for each card.
Make sure you set the environment variables as stated in the readme (see script below).
When the zecminer64 starts it reduces the intensity to 4.

bash script:
#!/bin/bash
export GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR=1
export GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
/home/me/ClaymoreZCashGPUMinerv12.3/zecminer64

Yes I have all of those set in my start.bash.  Mine auto adjusts the intensity back to 3:

Code:
OpenCL initializing...
AMD Cards available: 1
GPU #0: Pitcairn, 1688 MB available, 10 compute units
POOL version
GPU #0 is going to use too high intensity (6), not enough GPU memory, intensity value reduced (3)
GPU #0 algorithm ASM, intensity 3
Total cards: 1

ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.8 with amdgpu-pro 16.6   amd r9 270x.  getting only 10 s/s.  I know fglrx is recommended for older amd cards, but is 10 s/s expected?  Using default intensity.
