1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hacking KNC Neptune / Jupiter / Titan miners back to life. Why not? on: April 21, 2017, 06:32:08 AM
Oh lord, let's try to stay on topic.

Two problems:
1) That solution will not have enough surface area to keep the main chip cool. The power supplies are the bigger problem, but the best solution is to run them a bit more slowly (60-70mh) and not at a screaming 80. Also someone else made a new bracket for the factory heat sink that allows you to stick heat sinks on the supplies.

2) Ability to dump more heat does not fix the problem that the power plug on the Titans is already over limits. Pull more power and you burn the plug which shorts and destroys the cube in a lot of cases.

I ran a Neptune with liquid cooling, worked great until the pump stopped one night. Small explosion, big mess.

-> The big one is a bracket for the main large sink so that aux sinks can be mounted on the DC/DC's.

Well I know I'm not the first one who is manufacturing a X Bracket, but I'm in Europe and that's new :-) (at least).

Also I agree that the plugs are the weak (PCB I did not X-Ray it for good) component Bottleneck for Power. But I came up with a Double Plug solution on top of each other bridge-soldered together.

As soon as I start manufacturing, please let me know if somebody needs Cube upgrade Kit. (primarily for Europe people, but I will make an exception for all Forum members :-))

BTW: how can I insert pictures directly in the post., I used img tag and it shows as link?

Hi, isn't the problem the dirt which resides on the floor? so you clog your miners within a short period of time.

are you talking to me?

I live in a house, there is no dirt on my floors lol.

specially in a house, right. :-)

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Heat sink kit for Titan, by me. on: April 20, 2017, 05:16:51 PM
Hi everybody, need some feedback,

Today I stumbled on a couple of articles about keeping your miner cooler. So I developed a Heat sink kit for the KNC TITAN. It is not milled yet, but looks promising.
So what do you think about it.

1. The Large Sinks goes on top and pulls down the original Large Heat-Piped Sink. I added some airflow slots to further dissipate.
2. DCDC from Ericson got my attention with a large sink on the coil and a small sink on the switches, which actually nobody has (why?)

I will cnc mill it out of an aluminum block with the size of 100x100x10 (mm). All at once

Hello, maybe somebody got a hint what I will expect if I open up my titan cube?

Today I looked at my mining pool and one of my 3 titans were hashing significantly lower, so I checked all 3 miners -> 1 cube was dead out of 4. So I went to the attic and found black cables from the power supply (I was lucky that my PSU did not give up, rather used the cables as fuses) and burned molex. I did not reconnect, because I need a more stable environment.
The molex was completly melted from the upper 2 connections.

The cables from 1 and 2 were completely broken (fused), black, melted and done. on the back I have seen some black dust, because the fan did not work anymore. I have it sitting in my workshop now waiting for surgery.

Thanks for any responses

Hi, thanks for info.

1) I took a look with a torchlight and found that a lot of dust will come to my attention if I will open them up
2) Some cables went brown and have decent temperature, also some plugs are melted together iiiiiiihhhh.
3) They are in such a bad, dark and spidery location that I do not want to touch them (but I have to)

Actions for me to take:

1) I will take one by one off grid, dismantle them and redo a couple of things like:
        a) clean/wash the boards and all components included heatsinks
        b) New thermal compound
        c) Maybe new MC14 BGA Memory Heatsinks for the DC/DC converters

2) Think about:
       a) another cooling solution: silent and all covered: got something in my mind -> NOVEC 649
       b) another power solution: PC Power supplies suck the hell out of my patience. One On/Off cycle takes 2min to depower them totally to get my DCDC's back -> possible a Meanwell 12V 1200W or such ...
wondering if such a PSU will do? https://de.aliexpress.com/item/Best-quality-output-12V-125A-1500W-Switching-Power-Supply-Driver-for-LED-Strip-AC-110v-or/32689983532.html?spm=2114.010208.8.18.KgfAb7 since I don't know how great the tolerance on KNC's Miner Cubes are?
       c) Solder golden connectors (MOLEX) to the boards to reduce conducting resistance (something I need to know before I do it?) http://www.mouser.at/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=172064-0006virtualkey53850000virtualkey538-172064-0006 Will do?

Btw: here is the evidence of what I have, just in case if I did not explain myself.

Another thing: What voltage do you want me to try to set? and which direction less/more now I have -0.0366. More less or more more, please specify the value ! Thx

All the best

Tried to bind in the image but couldn't do it. Also hyperlinks some short descriptions?

Hi, got some titans as well, and one of them is a black sheep, since 2 summers ago I left my miners in the summer for 3 weeks while I was on vacation in the attic at 60°C (of course where I went was bad weather and @ home the best clear sky sun all day  Angry)

They survived lucky me, but two cubes of them got some issues, regading the asics.

Whenever a block is found or credited I'm loosing 2 DC/DC Units and the miner starts generating false shares. Then I have to take power away let it sit for a minute and power back on and all of a sudden all DC/DC units are back.
Also I can not activate one singe pair of DC/DC Units in one cube at all so I shut it off, so no false shares are generated.

What do you think what I can do? I did not open my cubes at all yes

all the best
