1  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Recover 2FA on: July 30, 2017, 05:59:50 PM
Thank you, problem is solved although rather counter intuitive.

You start creating a new wallet and say yes to making it a 2FA. Then you tell it you already have the seed phrase, and type that in. Then when asked again if you want 2FA you say no this time, and then it correctly creates a wallet with your funds and you can now send them on without 2FA.

2  Bitcoin / Electrum / Recover 2FA on: July 30, 2017, 02:20:04 PM
Hi, I deleted the 2FA app from my phone, so I cannot send BTC´s stored in my windows  Electrum wallet.
I tried creating a new wallet and used the seed words to restore, that works fine and I can see the coins again, but of course it wants the 2FA to send them.
Is there any way to generate the QR code again, or what can I do?
3  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My BTC safer in my Electrum wallet than in my Bitstamp account ? on: March 21, 2017, 08:04:17 PM

just remember that anything that exists on hardware (like your hard disk) is vulnerable to either being hacked if not encrypted properly or you had something like a keylogger on your system and accidentally open the wallet on that system.
or is susceptible to hardware failure such as your HDD not working again because of electrical shock or something similar.
remember to make a hard copy (write down the seed on paper) of your wallet.

It is my understanding that it is the Private Key that gives you access to your money, and so it is really this that you should have written down in the event that Electrum disappeared. The seed phrase wouldn´t be of any use if that happened. Or am I wrong here?
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Sweeping key on: March 20, 2017, 09:31:22 PM
This is a general question to understand how keys and the sweep system works:

1. I create a wallet of some kind, online, offline, or paper.
2. I transfer some Bitcoins to this wallet, and note the Private Key
3. I create a second wallet of some kind, online or offline.
4. I sweep the key from the first wallet into the second.

What is the status now please:

Is the first wallet empty?
Are the Bitcoins now in the second wallet?
Did it "cost" anything to a third party?

I asked because I´m new to cryptocurrency and was curious if I would have access to my funds if for some reason the hot wallet provider that I am using suddenly ceased to exist. People I´ve talked to seem to think they are OK as long as they have their 12 word phrase written on paper and stored somewhere, which is sadly NOT the case.
Access to funds is by a Private Key when it comes down to it. No matter if you have a user friendly online wallet or a low-tech paper wallet, your Private Key is your money. So if for example blockchain.info suddenly ceased to exist I would not have access to my money no matter how I have stored the 12 word phrase. The only way is through my Private Key, and you cannot get at that if the website was ever to close!
But when the website is up you can get the Key although it is not easy. I have no idea why they made it so difficult instead of just a menu item? However I´ve got my Key now, and with that insurance I really enjoy the clean and user friendly interface of the Blockchain.info wallet.

3) how full is the memory pool! [this one is new and hopefully temporary]
since blocks are full and only a limited number of transactions can be included in one block, obviously some transactions won't "fit in" so miners pick whoever pays a higher fee and that is why fees are rising now.

How do miners pick the transactions. Is it by actually looking at it on a computer and clicking yes or no, or is it done automatically by an algorithm

Regards
John

Thank you. I guess the only way to be really safe is to use a hardware wallet, or even a paper wallet.

If blockchain.info suddenly ceased to exist, how would I then transfer my funds to another wallet?
