1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bytecent - Experience March/2017 on: March 31, 2017, 02:18:12 PM
Hello, I've spent some time trying to make the Bytecent app work and failed. Reaction of the thread OP probably doesn't come as a surprise to veteran traders here, but I thought it was a nice project and I liked it had it's own custom client app that wasn't just another Bitcoin Core port.

Here's my original post:

Sorry I registered to share my experience. I like this altcoin because it featured a desktop client, actual working application that is not a port of bitcoin core wallet. Here's what I found:

The app is written in Qt, which brings a lot of issues, and most importantly the app doesn't work. Tested: Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 x86, Windows 7 SP1 x64. The installation process is very cryptic, the website offers download of the client and it's update. Only by carefully reading the text you find out the update is not for the app you're downloading, but for it's older version (seriously who handles updates this way in 2017?). The app and website are made and domain is owned solely by Komcore Corp. with residence in the US. It's website boasts corporativism but looks like a 15 year old put 3 static pages together. The client app is not open source, does not come in zip distribution, the installer looks pretty bad and I was never able to make the app run.

Sorry but this coin is currently in one of these modes:

1) Author gave up and the project is just plain dead.
2) This is all a big misunderstanding and it's all gonna be up in few days with update available.
3) The authors didn't give up, they just hired wrong people to do the software. Same as 1).

Looks bye bye to me.

EDIT: Edited out the arrogant part written in bad mood about project like this being wasted.

So this is Bytecent at this point for anyone trying to make the app work. It seems to me there's no information available about status of this project because the owner removes all messages where people ask about the app not working.
