Depending on the .aes file, you might be able to extract a hash from the file and use something like hashcat to bruteforce it, but you'd need to have some idea of what the password you used was (password length, types of characters/numbers/symbols used, random chars or words? etc)
Thanks, I think I have the wallet file itself decrypted with the right password, the same I use for importing the wallet. And I found some random numbers and letters for example walletPrivKey, xPubKey and xPrivKeyEncrypted, which I'd guess at least some of are hashes. I'd think the next step would be trying to brute force these. I tried hashcat as you suggested and even got it working with simple test hashes, but all these different hashes and salts are getting over my head.

I can get to the point where I have to confirm transfer. It asks for a "encrypt password", which can be reset using 12 word recovery phrase, which I don't think I have either.

Hi,
I'm trying to import an old copay.aes wallet backup which I last used at 2015. I can import it to Bitpay wallet using a password, see my balance, but when I try to do a transaction it again asks for encrypt password, but since the same password I used before is not accepted this must be different, and I can't remember what it could be. Is there any way to recover funds using copay.aes-file and a password which I use to import it?
Bitpay-wallet does not show which addresses are used to store the funds, but I somehow managed to calculate the public address using one of the keys on the encrypted aes-file, can't even remember now which (xpub?).

China bans bitcoin again and we are still higher than couple of weeks ago. Seems quite bullish to me.

good question: 1) Because I like blue, 2) Because there are colors offered in this forum, 3) Because it helps me find my posts better :-)
If everybody would use colors, this thread would be a mess. Please, stop.

No big news today? Bitcoin is still as good as it was yesterday? Great! Why would I sell now if I see the same potential in Bitcoin as yesterday, but I get less fiat from it? I'm keeping my wallets cold.

"To be clear, today’s news does not mean that PayPal has added Bitcoin as a currency in our digital wallet or that Bitcoin payments will be processed on our secure payments platform." Reading is fundamental. "PayPal has always embraced innovation, but always in ways that make payments safer and more reliable for our customers. Our approach to Bitcoin is no different. That’s why we’re proceeding gradually, supporting Bitcoin in some ways today and holding off on other ways until we see how things develop."

I added this to my above post, but I want to make sure people see it as it is helpful confirmed bad news to show why SHOTRING bitcoin on maximum leverage is a winning strategy. Here, I'll quote a verified source: I forgot to add another devastating fact from confirmed sources. When companies like Overstock implement bitcoin we see it gets used "a lot" for the first few days and then usage drops off after a while. The fact that Overstock's entire customer base isn't using bitcoin yet demonstrates in yet another conclusive and verifiable way that the whole system is a failure. This is all proven. You can check it with a simple google search. I first thought your post was sarcasm, but judging by your previous posts I think it wasn't. So you are saying that when TV was invented, it was a failure because people didn't immediately throw away their radios? If a company pays 3% for every credit card transaction and just 1% for bitcoin it wins 2% for every sale using bitcoin. For 500k worth of sales that would make 10k. Who loses here; consumer who pays in bitcoin, the company who accepts bitcoin or credit card companies? Obviously I pulled these figures out of my ass, but you get the idea?

Just seen the bet. I am also in if possible. When is the time up?
I would say approx 46 hours or something? Yeah the more the better So what are we waiting for? I'd like to get this done. I need to go offline. Same. To be honest, i think chances of him actually sending anything to the escrow are pretty slim. If he really is sending something, I'm in too!
