1  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: ncurses based MtGox live monitor and trading-bot-framework on: January 19, 2014, 02:00:13 PM
@prof7bit I noticed that Goxtool goes to great lengths identifying self orders but according to: https://bitbucket.org/nitrous/mtgox-api#markdown-header-moneyinfo MONEY/ORDER/ADD should return "success" (or error) along with the the OID (order identifier). I still didn't try sending orders, but I am wondering if it is possible to identify the Bot's orders when you are sending them.

Here's my proxy command and notice I do not use user/password in the command so I can use only one proxy for 2 or more blades, each configured with its worker username and password:

nohup python mining_proxy.py -o stratum.btcguild.com -gp 8332 -o eu-stratum.btcguild.com -gp 8332 > /dev/null 2>&1 &
Does the proxy support multiple getwork hosts at once? And how it manage them (switch, etc.)?

Only testing to see if that works. I put both btcguild stratum servers so if the first one goes down it should connect to the second one.

J/

Why do you use twice the same getwork port "8332" Shouldn't you be using a different one for the backup server?

No. He's specifying the port of the pools. Both of those servers both have the same pool.

But for the mining pool you use -p and for the miners you use -gp. Did I miss something?

You can use a PCI-E 6 pin but again you'll be overspec, although its the same as a molex. PCI-8 pin is best. There will be 3 12V cables, and 5 neutrals. Just wire them all up.

Hi dogie, I am confused  Huh I bought another molex splitter but I doubt it will be any different than my previous melted one  Embarrassed

I rather use the PCI-E 6pin since I trust more the cables in my Corsair GS600 PSU

Can you please explain whether to use two yellows and blacks or only one of each for powering the board?

thanks!

So just for future reference, upon further inspection my new molex splitter claims to be  18 AWG while the old (partially melted one) didn't say anything at all...  Shocked After compare them both, the new splitter's cables seem to be stronger as well. So I suggest to update the guide to check for the AWG inscription in the cables or use the PCI-e with 8 pins connector.

Thanks Dogie and Caesium!

That's what I advise people to use, two yellows, and two blacks, each at 18AWG, ideally from a PCI-e cable with the plug chopped off.

So I can see three yellow and three black wires in the PCI-e cable. Should I just chop the plug, choose two yellows and two blacks and then connect it to the delivery board?

Hi Dogie, thanks for this guide.

I have a question, I tried to overclock my unit just by pressing the "switch clock" button in the web interface. It went well but seven hours later the unit stopped working and I found the black cables too hot and one pair partially melt. Since then I cut the melt section of the cables making sure that they have the same length. The miner is running with the normal "slow" clock. On the other hand the heat sink was never hot at all.

This is a picture of my miner: https://i.imgur.com/VlvRfNW.jpg

My questions are:

1. In order to overclock the unit is it enough to just change the configuration by software or should I also turn the screw?
2. I am only using one fan for the heat sink which seems to be fine even when overclocking. Should I also add a second (or third) fan if I want to overclock the miner?

thanks!

If anyone wants any help setting up they can PM me, tips not req but always appreciated Wink

Do you mean cooling, PSU, etc?

That deserves a thread IMO.

Happy to tip if you write a comprehensive guide.

I am Sydney based and I would be interested in 10 as well.

Any idea if I can connect them to a single laptop computer? Also I believe, do they need any additional cooling?

cheers
15  Other / Beginners & Help / best hardware / OS to mine LTC? on: May 05, 2013, 02:23:40 PM
from https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Litecoin "GPUs are currently the dominant Litecoin mining technology."

Is that so?

what would be the best hardware software to start with?

Now as ASICs flood into the hands of miners, GUI mining will probably shift to Litecoins where the returns are about the same.  You can trade LTC for BTC on btc-e.com.

Yep, from https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Litecoin, apparently GPUs are at least as good as other specilized hardware.
