I've looked into $XVG coin and it seems legit, however I can't see regular developer activity in the github repo here

well there are also branches, and we have copies of the source code on our computer that we work on before we push changes.
right now verge's blockchain is working flawlessly, what is it you were looking for?

https://github.com/vergecurrency is the main repository where everything is kept. you were only looking at the source code for the chain itself.
Thanks for the clarification. I'm new to cryptocurrencies and I assumed most of the work occurs on the main VERGE repo.
