1  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Quiet 7950s on: June 07, 2013, 04:31:31 AM
I'm looking to pick up a 7950 with a quiet fan.

Do you know of any links that list the respective noise generated by these cards?

Or does anyone have any personal recommendations? I'm leaning towards two-fan Sapphire at present.

Thanks
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / When is premining acceptable? on: May 24, 2013, 10:25:23 AM
Can there ever be an occasion when some premining is acceptable?

For instance if a developer wanted to openly hold a small quantity as a personal reward or payment to others for offering ongoing coin support.

Or does any premining taint a coin, regardless of openness and intentions?

...even though it's technically not trading on Cryptsy yet.
4  Bitcoin / Mining support / Remote mining management on: May 18, 2013, 09:05:06 PM
Hey,

I'm just wondering what people are using to remotely manage their miners, my current set-up is windows based and I'm rather lazily using logmein.

What do you use and why?
5  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 5970- boots, but won't mine on: May 14, 2013, 11:54:36 PM
I picked up a second hand 5970 and having installed it I've found that it fails to mine...

The PSU is fine (850W /w 70A on 12 rail) and I've tested it in three systems now, all displaying the same issue- Using the 50BTC GUI program I attempt to fire it into mining mode and it sits for a while before declaring 'connection error' (or similar equivalent). CGMiner also sits for a moment before crashing. All three systems are fine mining with other cards. I know it's not a settings issue as 50BTC autosets itself to the card at hand and with CGMiner I use recommended settings.

Does this sound like the card itself may be screwed? It boots windows fine without any glitches, just fails to perform once I try to mine with it.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Wrap-text in CGminer on: May 04, 2013, 04:41:15 PM
Hey, does any such thing exist? i.e:

some stuff //
more stuff

Prior to creating a bunch of batch files I'd like to tidy up the .txt I'm using for cgminer commands.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Feathercoin difficulty growth on: April 30, 2013, 04:16:52 AM
Hey,

I'm trying to find a chart or at the least some sort of list, which portrays the growth of Feathercoin difficulty from the point in which it was launched. Anyone have that data or a link?

And yes, I did try Google  Tongue

Thanks in advance.
10  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Ok PSU for a solo 5870? on: April 23, 2013, 06:51:54 PM
OCZ CoreXStream CSX500W-UK ATX PSU - 500 W
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/components-upgrades/other-components/power-supplies/ocz-corexstream-csx500w-uk-atx-psu-500-w-15050623-pdt.html

Has 25A and 20A on the 12 Rail (total of 444W) which makes me think as long as I don't overclock the holy hell out of it it should be ok. The rest of the system is lightweight enough, it'd be a dedicated miner.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Limitations of unpowered PCI-E 1x to 16x Riser cables on: April 15, 2013, 10:13:30 PM
Hi there,

I've seen people saying that you shouldn't overload unpowered riser cables (PCI-E x1 >>> PCI-E x16) by using high demand graphics cards.

I have a 5750 and a 5780 which I'll probably avoid utilising in this way, but I was wondering would a 7950 be ok, as overall requirements of this card seem to be much lower than the other two? Or does it just come down to the quality of the riser cable? I'm in the UK and can't seem to find powered riser cables for a reasonable price.

Thanks in advance for any answers and for all the help that has already been dispensed in these forums, I'm new to the mining world, but have managed to learn a lot quickly with the help of these forums.
