1  Economy / Scam Accusations / BTCOxygen phishing attempt on: July 01, 2013, 01:34:13 PM
It looks like BTCOxygen's account has been compromised again.

Presumably because I posted in the pool's topic once, I got the following PM:

Hello,

This is an important message to all BitcoinOxygen miners. We've discovered an error in the way we have been calculating payments for miners for the past few weeks. Many of our miners have been overpaid, therefore we have corrected the balances on the accounts affected. We will be accepting all losses on balances that have already been paid out.

You can check your current balance by logging into your account at http://btc-oxygen.com or if you have any questions or concerns you can contact us via PM here or email support@btc-oxygen.com

We apologize for any inconviences this may have caused.

Regards,
BitcoinOxygen

The link, just like the link in the user's signature points to btc-oxygen.com, while the real pool's address is btcoxygen.com.

After somebody pointed this out in the pool's official thread here, BTCOxygen locked the thread.
2  Economy / Scam Accusations / XX.BIT free 0.01 BTC scam (robert5) on: June 28, 2013, 07:56:38 PM
Some time ago, there was a thread promoting the trading site XX.BIT. Allegedly, if I followed the OP's link, all I had to do was entering my wallet address to receive a whole 0.01 BTC. Although convinced I'd never receive the Bitcent, I figured why the hell not, got a disposable email address and gave it a try. After desperately trying to cross the language barrier for a couple of minutes, I manage to request the Bitcent. Obviously, I never received anything.

When I returned to the forum thread to post an answer, it was already gone. Today, I found a post by user robert5 advertising the same site in his signature. I assume this is the same user, although I don't remember if it was him who posted the thread.

Everything else about this user is a little shady as well:

May 31: Lost his CC and requests 2 BTC loan in newbie jail. (link)
June 25: Got his lost CC back. (link)
June 27: Earned 2 BTC by investing in Bitcoin and decided to raffle one of them by chosing a "Radom" number. (link)
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Mining during downtime on: April 16, 2013, 07:16:35 PM
I only started mining ~30 hours ago, so pardon my ignorance, but does it make sense to keep the miner running during the current downtime?

When the servers come back online, will things "catch up" or will all the effort during the downtime be in vain?
