1  Bitcoin / Armory / Illegal instruction (Core dumped) on: August 20, 2017, 10:38:39 PM
I was told in another thread that the above error meant that my CPU couldn't handle the version number 0.96.1
So I downgraded to 0.96.0 which I had running previously on the same computer before the upgrade. See below for version numbers.

After install, I still get the above error! Didn't used to before which I can be sure of as I have 0.96.0 on an offline machine. Although that one mysteriously is a beta version which i didn't realise until I checked the version number 0.96.0-beta-a3dO1aa722.
Not sure if this is relevant? Or Im using a sensible version on my offline?. Although its likely I had this beta version on the online machine too as I would have just used the same download.

Now I cant find this beta version anywhere online. Is that what I need? (that beta version) to get it running on the online machine and talking to the offline? or is there something else im missing to do with the above error in the title?

2nd question:
what is the difference between the 2 files:
Armory 0.96.0 for Ubuntu/Debian 64-bit with GCC 4.7
Armory 0.96.0 for Ubuntu/Debian 64-bit with GCC 5.3

I checked gcc and I have 6.3 so does that mean I need Armory 0.96.0 for Ubuntu/Debian 64-bit with GCC 5.3 or 4.7?

I get the error in the title with both these files after install. Fyi, I do a full remove with --purge before installing anoter and its a frsh install of Linux.

Why is there no info on te git site? Why am I so confused? Help!
2  Bitcoin / Electrum / ./electrum: Permission denied error on: August 20, 2017, 10:15:09 PM
After unzipping electrum-2.8.3.tar.gz to a folder, i moved into that forlder in terminal and ran:
./electrum

and i get the error:
./electrum: Permission denied error

I searched and found a suggestion to change permissions on the electrum.py file to make it executable. So I tried that and it seems to have worked, Electrum Wallet has opened. But I just wanted to check if that sounds right to everyone? Would the Electrum package have to have the permissions updated right after unzipping to make it work or am i missing something? That doesn't seem right that it wouldn't already have the correct perms 'out of the box'?

Do the tar.gz files have to be complied? Not sure if this is going in the right direction?

Thanks!
3  Bitcoin / Electrum / BTC Core offline wallet to Elecrum Watching Only Problem on: August 10, 2017, 08:36:57 PM
I'm trying to create a transaction using an on line wallet service to get btc out of my offline BC Core install. Im Creating the raw transaction on line and signing it offline.

I have unconfirmed inputs/balance showing in my offline Core. The transactions I received were never confirmed.

Is this the reason why my raw transaction that I create in an on line wallet fails when I run it through the debug window?
The message I get is "no inputs found or already spent"? I suspect its because those inputs are unconfirmed as this wallet has not been on line since it received the payment some time ago. How can i fix this and get my Core install to recognise the inputs it has inside?

I have core on another machine with the full block chain downloaded, could that be used to confirm these inputs to my offline wallet so that it can find them in order to sign my raw transaction? I know the inputs are there as I checked the address and the on line wallet found them no problem.
Or perhaps the on line wallet can create some kind of transaction to verify the inputs in the offline wallet?

How does the offline wallets balance and transaction history get updated?

Thanks for helping Smiley

5  Bitcoin / Armory / Armory wont start after 0.96.1 upgrade on: August 05, 2017, 10:41:40 AM
Hi everyone

I have been having a lot of trouble with Armory and Bitcoin core. Armory was crashing when I tried to create a wallet. I had a read up on here and saw that 0.96.1 was out, I was on 0.96.0 so thought i would try to upgrade to fix y problem.

I noticed that the .deb file for 0.96.1 was only 9mb where 0.96.0 was 14mb (??) but installed anyway. It seemed to install only a few icons, then exited. Now Armory wont start at all, not even the logo shows.

I tried removing Armory and reinstalling both versions but nothing works.

I downloaded from the offical Git hub, so Im not sure at all what to do now. Things are getting desperate!

Has anyone got any suggestions to try please?

Thank you Smiley
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / BTc Core re-indexing taking days! (Linux) on: July 25, 2017, 01:26:14 PM
Im trying to re-index the blockchain to avoid having to download it again (slow connection).

Its taking days. Im using Linux and the processor use is under 10%!
Does anyone know how to increase that? I've adjusted the DBcache size up very high and tried out using the Error check threads that are available in options and when I launch Bt caore it runs at 50% for a while and gradually slows down to under 10%.

Does anyone have any tips to speed this up? Surely it should be at 50% more or less all the time? !00% would be great.
The disk use isnt very high either.

Trying to install Biotcoin-qt either through installing the deb file, or using the terminal, cant get it working. libdb4.8++ was one of the delendencies.

What does it need me to do?

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How to take a BTC out of a cold storage wallet safely on: June 12, 2017, 01:10:56 PM
Hi all,
I have a few btc in cold storage and want to take 1 out safely without exposing the others to the dark side.
How can I do that? I'm using Bitcoin qt.

Do I need to export the encrypted wallet.dat file and import it in a hot wallet? That sounds like it defeats the purpose of the cold storage, never having been online, off line backup wallet

Can anyone help with that?

Thanks!
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Can you send and receive before the blockchain has downloaded? on: June 08, 2017, 09:18:01 PM
I think that is a stupid question, but hey, if you don;t ask you don't know without just trying it and risking it!

Also, is there a way to speed up the download? mine has taken over a week already and is just over half way! It really slows down my machine too with constant high disk use and going into "Not responding" mode several times a minute. PITA!

Thanks Smiley
11  Bitcoin / Armory / Importing digital backup fail on: June 02, 2017, 02:50:44 PM
Im trying to import a wallet.dat file into Armory (0.96-beta) and gettign nowhere as it's looking for a .wallet file

I'm not sure what's going on here. Is it because the wallet is not from Armory but from Bitcoin wallet?

what do I need to do?

Thank you!
12  Bitcoin / Armory / newbie questions on Armory on: May 30, 2017, 10:32:49 AM
Hi guys, I am trying to get up and running with Armory and an offline wallet. Im stuck at a couple of questions though:

1 Is the new version of Armory that was just released, 0.96, only available for AMD chipsets running Linux? No intel chipset version for Linux? Whats up with that?
2 Can I run a windows listening only wallet and a Linux offline wallet easily and without serious issues? Any known issues?
3 Would it be possible to run different version of Armory on my listeneing and offline wallets? I have an old 32 bit intel chipset laptop I want to use for the offline and a 64bit wondows for the listening wallet. Does that make sense or is it possible?

Thank you  Smiley
