1  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / What is the best/most current device for mining purposes? on: July 27, 2015, 10:18:11 PM
As per subject.
Looking for mining options to use come fall. I have cheap power($0.08 USD/KWH). Previously I was able to heat my home cheaper by mining than with the actual heaters in my friggin house. For the first winter I even made a hefty profit and kept the home nice and toasty but since GPU mining is more or less dead I sold off most of my gear. Whats out there these days that I should look into?
I'll probably fund the purchase using BTCJam so cost isn't an issue assuming the device actually has potential for a decent return.

11  Bitcoin / Mining / We're All Criminals According to MSI on: February 05, 2014, 12:00:49 AM
Apparently MSI thinks we're all criminals. Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining is "illegal" according to their forums.

I go there asking for assistance on fan replacement and aftermarket cooling solutions that current MSI gpu users are using and get blacklisted for mentioning "mining".

"Bit mining is a very questionable activity. Who knows where the money comes from, much less what the data or the cryptography is actually used for. It is well known for hiding money for both corrupt and  terroristic purposes. "

Lol.

What?

This is the post:

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=177493.0

Here is a quick summary of the exchange, including PMs.

Me: I bought 4 MSI cards back in Dec, 2x270x and 2x280x. 3 out of 4 of my cards have issues already with regards to fans. Grinding, noisy, and stuck. Yes my system is clean and I've tried canned air on them numerous times. From what I've been reading the fans are just poor quality in general when it comes to heavy users like us miners. Rather than ship these off for RMA which will take 3 months and result in a huge loss mining I'd like to just replace the fans myself. Not concerned about warranty. I'll happily give that up. The cards paid for themselves long ago.
Since I can probably buy 10 sets of fans for the cost of shipping the cards back I'd much rather that route Smiley
Can I get the part # for the fans please? Or could someone please point me in the right direction for a similar fan that would fit without any modifications?
Alternatively if there are any good 2slot aftermarket coolers that fit these gpus please let me know.
Its a shame the fans are so bad on these cards cause they perform extremely well otherwise. MSI pls take note.
Another Forum User referencing rules: Don’t…
Ask for help on shady or illegal activities such as password hacking, software piracy or bitcoin/crypto mining ______________________________________________
Mod response after repeat harassment of above forum user:
"I'll make this simple. They linked you to technical support. That's all we can do. If you don't want to follow the forum rules you agreed to when you made an account, then that is your choice, but you were warned by them, now you've been warned by me. There are plenty of online retailers that sell aftermarket coolers. A simple Google search or amazon search will yield numerous results. That's as much help as anyone here can provide. With that, I'm closing this flame thread, as we do not support 'mining, bitcoining, or other questionable activities'.
The next time I see something like this from you, 6strings, I will be forced to take real action."
Threatening me?
Now to PMs.
Me: Please tell me what rule I broke.
I wasn't asking about Bitcoin mining whatsoever.
I am asking about the fans on the cards I have, and what aftermarket coolers users may be using.
Is this against the rules in anyway?
Mod:
ou clearly stated in your post what you were using them for. We clearly state in our rules we will not support bit mining in any way. You want new fans? You can either contract MSI for RMAs or find some after market coolers. As I stated, Google will produce some results, as will amazon.
Bit mining is a very questionable activity. Who knows where the money comes from, much less what the data or the cryptography is actually used for. It is well known for hiding money for both corrupt and terroristic purposes. While you may not be using it for this purpose, doesn't mean others don't. Which is why this forum follows this stance.
Me: I'm sorry you lack a proper understanding of Bitcoin. You are grossly misinformed I'm afraid. I suggest you do some research on the subject. Much has changed and the public perception is not clouded by false judgments anymore. It is widely accepted. Even major Tech retailers like Tigerdirect accept it and sell mining specific equipment. There are sites like Gyft.com where you can buy a gift card for just about any major retailer with bitcoin. Fully legit site supported by those retailers. Banning talk about Bitcoin is no different than banning talk about Paypal or Credit cards at this point in its evolution.
I'll be happy to steer you in the right direction. We're good honest hard working folks. There is no "nefarious hashing". Bitcoin itself is open source. See for yourself. Where these crazy notions came from I have no idea but they are completely false and misguided. Its quite sad really. A lot of bright people have missed the boat on something big because of this nonsense. Come visit our communities. bitcointalk.org a good place to start. Take a look around. Ask questions. Or pop into MCXNOW.com and have a chat with us. I'm there often and so are many other good people. We're building a new world here and everyone is invited to be part of it. No need to be so dismissive.
The majority of issues with crime and Bitcoin come from hackers or con-artists. This has nothing to do with the coin itself. Much like the early days of Ebay. Ebay wasn't scamming folks but criminals were using Ebay to do so. You see what I mean?
If I make a post asking for information on fans or aftermarket cooling solutions are you going to delete it? No mention of mining or bitcoin. Just straight up request for info.
Clearly that itself doesn't break any rules. I don't want tech support. I want info from MSI users. Surely MSI won't give me information on aftermarket cooling solutions for their products as that would void warranty and MSI itself will not help a user void their warranty. Even if I give up my warranty voluntarily they won't budge. I've been down that road already. Thus why I am here.
Mod:
I'm sorry that you can be so deluded. What you want to believe doesn't change the fact that it is still possible. If it's possible, people will do it. If you haven't figured that out in life, I'm sorry for you. Yes, some e-tailers may accept it, and the public view is slowly changing. Unfortunately it doesn't change the fact that you agreed to rules by joining the forum, and then berate users because they inform you of them. They are the rules and if you don't like them, you are welcome to post else where.
Lastly, you apparently still haven't gotten it, even after saying this multiple times. You can easily Google for coolers, or look on amazon. They exist.
12  Economy / Computer hardware / Seeking Donation or WTB Cheap Laptop For Friends Nephew Canada/US - Please Read on: January 31, 2014, 08:04:01 PM
My neighbors nephew was involved in a house fire just before Christmas. The nephew is very autistic, hes in his 30s but to put it bluntly functions more like a 12yr old. The house he was staying in had a short in the stove which led to a fire.   He had just been dropped off by his worker and was alone in the house. He called for help immediately but did not leave the house. He suffered severe smoke inhalation and lung damage and was put into coma for several weeks due to his situation.

He is awake now but is having a lot of difficulty adjusting to being in the hospital. At times he has to be restrained because he'll try to remove his iv lines, breathing tubes etc.

I am hoping to find a cheap laptop or even one that can be donated. It doesn't need to be anything special. Just something capable of watching movies, dvds and maybe some simple games. A working copy of windows would be appreciated as well but I can find that if not inc.

He will be in recovery for a long time and the only entertainment he has in his room is just a dvd player at this time. His family asked me to find some dvds(He loves Sailor Moon lol) for him to watch but I am hoping to find something here so I can make his stay and recovery a bit easier.

I feel for the guy but theres only so much I can do. His family are low income, my neighbor, his uncle is  retired from the military and relies on his pension so theres not much he can do. They are not aware that I am doing this for him yet. I don't want to get anyones hopes up in case this all falls thru but I will provide proof that it goes into his hands somehow to show that I am not trying to scam anyone here.

Willing to share my ID and info if needed. I will happily make this as public/transparent as possible.

So basically all being said I am essentially looking for a donation but I am willing to pay as much as I can afford to find one as well. Can pay BTC, WDC, whatever crypto you want. Can even do EMT in Canada if needed.

If anyone wants to donate BTC to help purchase one that would also be appreciated but I'd like to see if someone could donate an adequate used laptop first before accepting any BTC donations.

Do NOT send BTC donations yet but if you are interested in doing so pls PM or check this thread again in a few days.

It would need to be shipped to Newfoundland, Canada. So Canada/US would work best to avoid crazy shipping/customs charges.

Thanks all! The time you took to read this post is greatly appreciated.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] Unclecoin - PREANN - Needs Development from scratch on: December 28, 2013, 01:17:31 PM
Everyone and their uncle is making a new coin. So why not Unclecoin?

To start:

* CPU only initially(impossible to say never gpu/asic with all these talented devs abouts)
* Quick block generation: 30 seconds
* 64 UNC per block (halving every 2048 blocks)
* Block reward will never drop below 4 UNC
* Total of 16 million UNC will be created
* Starting Difficulty 0.0064
* Difficulty retargets every 20 blocks (maximum 20% up or 15% down)
* Quick transfers! Only 6 confirmations needed.
* Mined blocks mature after 256 confirms.

There will be NO PRE-MINE, NO INSTAMINE! Launch will be based on UTC and DELAYED 5-10mins from launch time to ensure miners are ready. Fair launch is the only way to launch a coin.

Unclecoin is a named pulled out of my ass and is subject to change if deemed necessary.

14  Economy / Service Discussion / Cryptsy Harassment - Any lawyers out there? on: December 17, 2013, 12:44:14 PM
Cryptys has sent me 30+ emails in the last 12 hours about negative balances and demanding payment.
The thing is I never had a negative balance. Not now, not ever. Then they sent me multiple emails apologizing for the harassment e-mails, and an email for every ticket I ever sent them. Tickets that were closed long ago!
This is insane!
Ever few mins my phone goes off telling me of an e-mail from cryptsy.
I missed half a nights sleep cause my phone kept going off!

I know there are countless others getting this harassment.
Any lawyers out there that want to do a cease and desist or put together a class action get in touch. I'd love to see that place crumble.

16  Economy / Currency exchange / WTS 0.6BTC for CDN EMT on: July 04, 2013, 06:36:19 PM
Pm for details.

I want to sell .6 BTC for EMT in Canada.
Price $80Cdn/BTC so $48 for the .6BTC minus the $1.50 EMT fee = $46.50CDN.

Must be willing to send Transfer first as it takes 30mins for EMT email to arrive. BTC sent once EMT arrives and is deposited.

I have done this previously with Ilikeham: bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170077

Plenty of positive feedback under igot6strings on HardwareCanucks and Ebay.

PM Please!
Thanks folks.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Possible to develop a multicoin? on: June 27, 2013, 12:29:57 PM
Curious if its possible to develop a coin that has different denominations of coins within its block rewards?
Forgive me if my terminology is whack. I'm fairly new to this world.

What I'd like to see is a coin that has say 3 different valued coins within its block reward. 25 cent, 50 cent and $1 denominations. The 25 cent would be fast like say WDC, 50 cent would be medium like LTC and the $1 like coin would be the slowest. Coins could be traded up to the other denominations when necessary.
If the term cent makes things complicated lets just say:
A+A=B B+B=C

Is something like this possible? Can it be done? Is that tuna melt I smell?
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Can someone tell me why yac gpu miner works so well with my 7870LE Tahiti? on: June 21, 2013, 09:49:10 PM
Basically the 7870 LE EZ is a tahiti based gpu like the 7950/70. It is not the same as the standard 7870. Anyway, its terrible at scrypt however it is just as good as a 7950 when mining BTC and now I find out it performs just as well with the Yac GPU miner, which is based off cgminer to the best of my knowledge. For the life of me, and from what I see from many many others its damn near impossible to get this above 400khash mining scrypt coins like LTC.

Can someone out there please tell me why the modfied cgminer for Yac works so well but regular cgminer won't mine scrypt worth a damn for me? The super technical bits of software/hardware are not something I am skilled with but I would love to know if its some how possible to remodify that yacminer to mine regular scrypt just as good on the 7870 tahitis. Its a cheap and powerful gpu with much lower power usage than the 7950 and nearly equal performance where it counts.
19  Economy / Digital goods / Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon REDUCED on: May 27, 2013, 05:20:01 PM
I have these codes to sell. I used the Crysis 3 code myself but have the other 3 still available.

$15USD in BTC or LTC for Bioshock or Tomb Raider.

$8USD worth for FC3 BD.

PM if interested. Will escrow if necessary. I will happily send first to well established members with a good rating. I have 100% feedback on ebay and hardware canucks under the same username. Games came with my 7870 LE EZ.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Got my new 7870 LE EZ Tahiti GPU - 550 mhash BTC but only 350 khash LTC? WTF? on: May 23, 2013, 07:15:09 PM
cgminer fails to start and immediately shuts down and I get the pop up in windows.
My previous card was a 6870. I removed that and replaced with latest drivers and tried several versions of the sdk. No dice.
Any help would be appreciated.

Solved my original issue now I have a new one, can't get past 350 khash with scrypt. I can kickarse at btc 550mhash.
What to do?
Tried different TC, W 64, 128, 256. 1 and 2 gpu threads...
Currently have my card at 1200 core and 150 mem. No dice.
Nothing wants to make it mine ltc properly. I'm very happy with the sha mining but my god I want to get scrypt running right.
