Bitcoin.org just gave an alert on their website of a confirmed potential fork on Aug 01 and some warnings to users of bitcoin. It is unpredictable yet though how the market is gonna be like but it seems it ain't gonna be pretty. I was having hopes it may not get to this at first, unfortunately they are dashed. I actually have some of my coins stored on this site and I was already thinking of moving them out when I saw this on their site this morning.

Recently, there have been discussions about the possibility of a bitcoin hard fork happening so we wanted to address the issue for users who have their coins stored with us.

We feel that the possibility of a hard fork has been greatly exaggerated, however we are prepared to deal with it if it does happen.

If there is a hard fork, we shall always follow the longest chain (the chain with the most proof of work) as our primary coin. Bitcoins on the secondary chain however, will be made available for withdrawal by users after there has been a clear winning chain. So for each satoshi that users have with us, they will receive 2 (or more if there are multiple forks), one on the longest chain and one in the minority chain/s.

What do you guys think? Still trying to wonder if I could trust this statement or just follow my fears

I just read in this article how someone made a btc transaction, including 80btc as the transaction fee which eventually btc.com mined the block. That is an outrageous fee I must say and how on earth would someone make such a mistake? Such a thing was also reported to have happened in the past with even a larger fee which no one came back to claim though the miners declared it up for whoever that made the transaction with proof to come and claim which btc.com is also doing presently with this 80btc.

The questions that arose in my mind are;
1. Do you think a sender can really make such a mistake or there is someone who just deliberately and randomly decided to donate btc to any miner that ends up mining their block?
2. If this kind of mistakes happen, do you think there should be a reclaim or we just assume it is the miner's luck?

What are your thoughts?

I have been trying to read a lot about the possible hardfork, though I still get a little bit confused on some of the steps to take and i am sure some newbies don't even know if they are in danger of loosing their coins or not. For example, I know it is a necessity to move your coins to a wallet you can control the private keys or find out if the web wallet you are using will be ready to adjust to both sides after the fork or not. I know there are some things one might still need to consider as well which I don't have a clue. Also, what is the best light desktop wallet to use for a newbie from experience to help achieve being able to control one's private keys? I hope this helps me and other newbies as well.

I have been using web wallet for a while (blockchain.info) but I am contemplating recently between heavy or light desktop wallet as I have been told on this forum that desktop wallets are more secured.  My question is, which is more secured between light and desktop? What are the major differences to watch out for? How will one go about installing one? What is the best desktop wallet, be it light or heavy and why?
lastly, apart from desktop wallets, are there any other more secured wallets that are easy to use?
