Tried downloading the bitcoin qt version 8.5 but it doesn't contain an exe or at least I can't find it, so I can't get it set up. Any ideas please. Sorted thanks.

Does a 00 in a private key indicate a corruption of the key ie 249C00. Thanks if anyone knows.

Can this command decrypt the wallet.dat in the directory even if it has never been loaded into bitcoin core? Also, does it leave that file sitting in the directory unencrypted? Thanks for any info.

When I load an old wallet into Bitcoin Core, it changes from 96kb to over 600kb and only shows one legacy format key and the rest are new keys(presumably a thousand). I also expected the wallet file to be encrypted but it isn't. The wallet seems to load okay without throwing a corruption message out but does not show any old keys etc. I have shown four screenshots here of the debug log, from starting up with this wallet file. Thanks. https://imgur.com/a/tjdKISW

I have an encrypted private key and I know the passphrase, plus I have a salt. Is It possible to get the private key? It is from an old Bitcoin core wallet. Thanks for any help.

As part of an attempt to retrieve a Bitcoin wallet/private key from an old hard drive I have found a docx file labeled Bitcoin. It consists of 3 blocks of characters A-Z, a-z, numbers 1-9 and+/. Each block is about 70 characters long and about 50 lines deep. My question is, is this base 64 as it doesn't contain any = and how could I decode it? Do I need to know the start and finish of a string as It just consists of the large blocks of characters as described. Sorry for my clumsy explanation, but If anyone can give me a clue that would be great.

So I recovered an old wallet.dat from a hard drive by using recovery software. The wallet is 96kb and I put it on a usb stick and ran a pywallet recovery on it. I knew the passphrase and used it, and the recovery completed fine. The result was strange as it said 0 wallets found 0 encrypted keys, 0 keys decrypted, passphrase correct wallet is decrypted. I then dumped the wallet using pywallet to a txt file but without the passphrase, just to see what it showed. What it showed was encrypted key 96 characters long numbers and letters and salt with a number, and nothing else that looked useful. Would this be of possible use to me? I know the public address that is of interest to me. Thanks if anyone can throw some light on it.

I have found a Bitcoin Core version 8.5 and wanted to know a few things about console commands. I have not let it start to sync as I have kept it offline thus far, but would like to know how to list all the addresses it contains. I have the passphrase and would like to know what to type in the console to show them and also to unlock it for a set time. Thanks for any help.

I have a recovered wallet.dat file from an old Bitcoin Core that I have recovered using Pywallet with the kind help of forum member HCP. If I use that wallet.dat in the latest Bitcoin Core with the useHD=0 and rescan options and it is synced, then will it show any Bitcoins that are in there. Thanks.

How do I uninstall Bitcoin core when it won't show up in programs. I can still get to it via %APPDATA% but I want to completely uninstall it. I had a Bitcoin core on my pc but the uninstall exe didn't work so I reinstalled hoping it would fix what was there already. I then used the uninstall exe and all it did was remove the newer one, but the old is still there. Can I just go to the folder in APPDATA and right click and delete all the individual components? will that remove it all?. Thanks.

The uninstall shortcut says it has been changed or moved. Bitcoin core doesn't show up in programs list either so i can't uninstall from there. I'm running Windows 10.

I have 5 old wallet files from the middle of 2013 for bitcoin core. What is the best procedure for trying them out in the latest bitcoin core?. Should I run salvagewallet straight away or not?, and do I have to let it sync before I can tell whether there are Btc in the wallet via addresses?. Also what is the original command if I want to run it in standard command after removing the salvagewallet command (i forgot what the original was!). Thanks again for any help.
