However, it is not just SBRs that are gaining interest. Pro-crypto legislative efforts have generally increased, with Michigan recently introducing four new bills related to Bitcoin and other crypto assets. One of the bills could allow investment of some of state retirement funds into cryptocurrencies.

There is another bill to ban the introduction of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), while proposed legislation seeks to allow Bitcoin mining projects on abandoned oil and gas wells, with tax deductions for the mining programs....

(BTC Reputation Upgrades) Can This Be Done With Bitcoin Without Using Any Altcoins?

Hello, The following "flow of ideas" *can* be done with Smart Contracts and Altcoins. 
Please Note: I am not proposing or promoting a specific project in this discussion. The outline of details is just an example, seeking the answer: "Can This Currently Be Done With Bitcoin Without Using Any Altcoins?"

* Starting Point = Bitcoin and the community has earned a horrible mainstream reputation with an endless flow of scandals, alleged hacks, and other major thefts.
* Many early Bitcoin users were idealists who wanted to actually help "the masses" have sound money.
* What if (for example) people could safely pool money (BTC) in a way that massively helps improve our reputation?
* Do you think (at least some) some of the super-rich, old-time idealists (and many other people) would be interested?

Here is a quick example of something very positive which can be done with smart contracts and altcoins - and possibly (?) using only BTC:
Bitcoin For "The Masses" Super Bowl 2025 ads!
* Super Bowl ads are relatively expensive, and can be worth the money by creating a Huge Positive Buzz.
* The ad(s) can educate people about the original goals of BTC idealists and how great the future can be!
* The smart contracts used would specify funding targets, and other vital details.
* The first 100 (or 500 - for example) donations all earn the right to be (optionally) participating in a trustee group (DAO = cannot be done with BTC / possibly vote in the forum?)
* The Trustee group and/or exact details in the smart contracts, specify a clear path to securely releasing/converting the funds and buying the ads.

Questions:
The above optimistic, exciting outline can currently be done with smart contracts and altcoins. Can it be done using only BTC?
The BTC ecosystem/reputation obviously needs repairs, do you have an opinion on how/what to do ASAP?

Most of you have heard of Bitcoin Pizza day originally on May 22 2010. At that time mining was still so easy that virtually no one paid cash for Bitcoin. Another historical milestone happened a bit later in 2010 > I started here in April/May 2011. This next info I learned from an old thread which was discussing an even older thread, I've lost those bookmarks now, but might find them again someday. One amazing thing about this forum is the really old threads, have you ever studied/looked at any?  
 

The first ever "record" of someone <~exact quote from the thread>"selling Bitcoin for Paypal(!)* payments and keeping records on a spreadsheet" was also in 2010.
That's right, BTC was still so close to free, it was safe for "the only guy doing it" to accept Paypal (lol?), despite the obvious risk of reversed transactions. The price he was selling them for will be a big surprise for some of you: The discussion in the old thread was about him selling BTC at the price of 300BTC/dollar!

This actually happened in the real world, so how does the math look?

To make it a bit more believable let's go with "only 200 BTC"/$, a half a penny each. Now, I'm not saying many people bought that low and held on all the way. Let's say you invested only $100, then proceeded to eventually spend, give away*, and/or gamble away 95% of your long-term stash. Now you have only 5% of your original amount left.  
*(people were extremely generous back then, and no crime here either)
 
200BTC/$ * $5 = $1,000BTC! If you where one of the lucky people to sell near the current all-time high how much would you have made?

Even at "only $20k/BTC" :::: 1,000BTC * $20,000  = $20,000,000! If my math is off, please let me know. At 200btc/$ every One Dollar turned into 4 Million, you do not see that many times in your lifetime, but that is what actually happened with Bitcoin. At $40k that same person has $40,000,000 today, and near the all-time high you are looking at $70 Million coming from only 5% of a $100 investment.

We can all see there is often an "high - sometimes insane - level of greed" in this community. People are often trying to find the next thing which will produce huge profits. One reason I Love the old threads in this forum is the way people helped each other "figure out the hard stuff" with no motive of short-term profits.

One more early Bitcoin milestone, related to internet eCommerce was the alpaca socks kid. This guy's parents owned a small farm and made alpaca socks. He talked his parents into accepting BTC. That family is so rich now, they probably had to relocate to someplace they "were not so famous." History class in school can be really boring, but BTC history is amazing! Have a great night.

A serious question(?) about decentralization.

This post is a non-promotional effort to ask a serious decentralization question about profit-making projects. I will do the best I can to be non-promo, thank you.


re: The first ever long-term paid study of Bitcoin Users.
How much to pay people for the study(?), we will need to decide.


The Key Issue:

* For the sake of decentralization: Each of our 10 teams should be able to decide for themselves.
* Since it is a scientific study, breaking it into ten groups with different pay rates, doesn't seem to work.

One possible answer: It is a co-op effort helping the ecosystem, and the ten teams can all benefit from participating without needing to decide the pay rates. Sounds a bit centralized but not too different from what sports leagues do. The central MLB leadership, for example, funded studies and hired an expert former, successful GM & the result was improving the game by eliminating delays.


The remaining issue?

* Sometimes "cooperation for mutual  benefit" (like in Open Source communities) is a good thing.
* On the other hand, we have something big, which needs to be decentralized right away, so now is a great time to start.

Serious Question: I am currently not an expert on Scientific studies, is it possible to "unnecessarily" split the pool of participants into ten groups (so each team is more independent), and still collect useful long-term data? Thank you.

Non-Promotional, Educational Info About This Community

This forum used to be a Paradise of Geniuses kicking around a young Bitcoin when it had absolutely Zero value, and later was still almost free. I was not here then, but am aware of the extremely high quality content, complete lack of Spam, no crime, etc. The day I joined the forum, BTC broke over $1 for the very first time and was over $4 later the same day! I soon expected "the price to go back down" (when it was ~$7), and/or my main motive was being truly excited about how interesting the Bitcoin Experience was at that time, so I was not attempting to invest.

Good People sometimes like the truth "straight-out" even if it hurts. The majority of the content currently posted daily at this "Once Great" forum is embarrassing and (actually, literally) damaging to the mainstream, long-term value of Bitcoin. Every day, Newbies - some "almost as brilliant as Satoshi" land here and see the painfully-uniform blocks of often boring 150 to 200 characters, and they probably never come back. While the people paid to churn out the "sig campaign compliant" junk are paid to continue with more, and, more, and more....
The community clearly needs a way to reward good, quality content providers, so how about (for example, open for discussion please)

An Urgent Call For Voluntary Community Action!

In an "arms-race" to prove they care about quality, many sig campaigns now require 120, 150, even 200 characters for a post to qualify. A "picture says a thousand words" and I could easily post screenshots of "typical bct threads", but that would risk unfairly featuring specific people.  
What if a "noticeable number" of prominent sig offerings voluntarily (competitively!) dropped the requirement back down to ~40 or 50 characters per post, what would happen?

1) The "hardest-working sock-puppets" would be thrilled   .... oops, wait there's more...
2) Those "visionary" campaigners would have a valuable, new advantage leading to potentially much higher-quality content and more valuable advertising returns, how?
3) ~40 or 50 characters per post is plenty to <>judge quality<>, show "some level of effort" by the poster, and your now more valuable sigs are not suffering from looking like standard 150 to 200 word blocks of often unnecessarily-extended, often very boring crap..
4) You ads will shine by often being presented in a way that is suddenly different and better, compared to your - sometimes truly lame - competition.

When I try to come back and enjoy "my old home" now I see mostly, uniform-sized paragraphs of boring, often completely unreadable text.
The "quality" has honestly improved some the last 5 to 7 years. Translation software (for example) is much more accurate these days, and/or some of the worst sock-puppets finally gave up?
The issue which makes it "almost unreadable boring garbage" is not necessarily a lack of "good content", but the sometimes-brief, simple, powerful, useful ideas are buried in a tedious effort to reach 150 to 200 characters. "Nice try", but your system is still very broken, and I am not the only person to whom this is obvious.

Can we please get a Large Multi-Sub BCT.org section called (for example) "The Free Zone". As we all know Bitcoin is/was supposed to give people "new options, choices, and freedom", so a Free Zone sure sounds good to me:

DigiByte (DGB) is an open-source project with a strong community of volunteers launched way back in Jan 2014.
MyBB forum is an open-source project with a strong community of volunteers started in 2002, long before Bitcoin was born.
Digi-ID is a security protocol built on DigiByte blockchain technology that empowers users to effortlessly sign-in to websites, applications, and even into the internet of things.

IMO, One of the best ways for Bitcoin/Crypto to go more mainstream ASAP is to actually use it in everyday life. "We the people" need a MyBB plugin created which seamlessly adds the Digi-ID option to existing registration and login. Is anyone interested in helping code this as an open-source offering and/or a proprietary profit-making venture? I will eventually pay for it, but would rather start the other way. This topic is open to discussion* whether it is productive, or simply to say (for example) "Go DGB! The next bull market will be amazing."

(I am curious if many people ever even think about this) Here is a question about one of the most popular types of offers at the forum:
Paid Sig Offers are obviously very popular here at BCT. If you had higher income, from other sources, would you quickly "take back your sig" and use it for anything you like? How much (in ~USD or BTC value) would you need to make this summer to Stop Using Paid Sig Offers?

The question is simple, but the answer is not IMO. Do you expect/want to make a lot of money without much effort? Related topic: Do you know/care that extreme satisfaction can come from sustained effort and worthwhile goals?

Do you use sites on your smartphone which are not mobile friendly?
