6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Open letter from Jason King (SeansOutpost) on BITCOIN IN THE BELTWAY (DC CONF) on: June 13, 2014, 02:02:55 PM
Hi everyone. This is Jason King from Sean's Outpost. I just finished running all the way across North America for bitcoin and homeless awareness (#BitcoinAcrossAmerica) http://www.wired.com/2014/06/bitcoin-run-jason-king/

and I'm also the co-chair (with Elizabeth Ploshay) of the "Bitcoin in the Beltway" conference in Washington, DC that starts next weekend.

I think I did the conference a disservice in agreeing to chair the event at the same time I was undertaking another major endeavor (running across the country). But in true bitcoin fashion, this conference has blossomed despite me (maybe in spite of me, honestly) and has really become an amazing event. Wonderful people like MK Lords and Elizabeth Ploshay have been really kicking ass making sure this was a great event.

We tried to make a different event with #BitcoinBeltway. It's not run by any organization with an agenda, it's just a group of people passionate about bitcoin and crypto who wanted to try and showcase the good of this community. And I think if you take a look at the lineup and diversity of speakers, you'll agree we have done a pretty good job... http://bitcoininthebeltway2014.sched.org/

Some of my personal favorite highlights:

- Dan Elitzer and Richard Ni of the MIT Bitcoin Project will be presenting. Their plan to give $100 in bitcoin to every student at MIT this fall is going to be huge. Very smart guys, with a great vision

- Brian Hoffman from Open Bazaar (formerly dark market) will be talking about their distributed, anonymous marketplace.

- The three "Jeffs" Jeffrey Tucker(liberty.me), Jeff Berwick(The Dollar Vigilante), and Jeff Garzik(bitpay.com) two anarchists and a core dev all passionate about bitcoin

- Fereshteh Forough from Womens Annex Foundation. A woman who puts her life on the line to bring technology and equality to the women of the middle east (and the rest of the word)...powered by bitcoin

- Patrick Byrne, the CEO of Overstock.com, a huge bitcoin proponent and one of the first (maybe the first) large corporation to realize the potential of bitcoin.

- Live Performances by YT CRACKER (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZfg1Gtcg08) and ZHOU TONGED (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pID03RrmKow)

But truly, naming highlights is like picking your favorite children. We have over FIFTY (50) speakers for the conference (50 cent is not one of them, alas). All top notch, speaking on a wide variety of bitcoin and crypto topics. Check the full list out here...

http://bitcoininthebeltway2014.sched.org/directory/speakers

But it's not enough. We want to be better. At the end of the day, this is your conference and not ours. What are we missing? How can we be better? What do you want to see that's not here? How can we improve? What haven't you seen in a bitcoin event that you wish was available?

Anyone that wants to get involved with the show, feel free to contact me directly at jason@bitcoinbeltway.com. We have a few exhibitors booths left and could still stand a few volunteers.

As a reminder, thanks to a partnership with the Crytpocurrency College Network,   ALL STUDENTS are entitled to half off admission ($150)

And anyone interested in attending that has an actual hardship in being able to afford to go. Don't hesitate to contact us. We might be able to connect you with a sponsor. We're much more interested in creating a community event than anything else.

We take BTC, LTC and DOGE for admission.

The Venue is the DC Renaissance Downtown, NW Washington, DC

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 56 BTC($7200) Donation to Sean's Outpost - Thank you to LetsDice.com and Nakowa on: September 24, 2013, 03:52:57 PM
In case you didn't see it yet or don't visit reddit, this is what I woke up to this morning.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1n11ok/a_big_thank_you_to_jason_king_and_seans_outpost/

Martin from LetsDice.com and Nakowa the whale just chipped in to pay off the whole mortgage for 2014 for Satoshi Forest, our 9 acre homeless sanctuary in Pensacola, FL. The donation was a little over 56BTC or $7200.

I am humbled by this level of generosity and support, thank you guys from the bottom of my heart.

I am completely humbled by this.

The Bitcoin community is just awesome.

Thank you,

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Thank You! The Bitcoin Road Trip: Pensacola to Chicago - Come say Hi. on: May 29, 2013, 12:32:21 PM
This is my first post outside the noob area. Be nice Smiley

TL;DR - If you live between Pensacola, FL and Chicago, IL let's meet up on my roadtrip next week

Next, Tuesday I will be driving from Pensacola, FL to Chicago, IL. An awesome (super awesome) friend of mine who is part of the traveler/hobo/train rider community, just got struck down with Guillain-Barré syndrome. This disease is just fucking terrible, it is a polyneuropathy that essentially deteriorates your nerves rapidly. This girl went from leaping from boxcar to boxcar daily, to being essentially paralyzed.

Anyway, as you can imagine, being paralyzed and living on the street are not a good combo. Especially if she needs continuous supervision/physical therapy if she ever wants to walk again. But fortunately, we got ahold of her family and they have a room for her and will give her the care she needs.

The only problem is getting her home. Home is Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Now at this point, this post is starting to sound like a PLEASE SEND COINS post, amiright? But it's the opposite. People have ALREADY been so awesome in supporting Sean's Outpost/<BITHOC> that were able to offer to get her home without even batting an eye lash.
Now, the logistics of moving a recently paralyzed person and their dog 855 miles is much more of a problem then I would have expected it to be. It's not like you can just stick her on a bus. So I'm going to be driving her up there.

Bitcoin fueled road trip.

We thought it might be cool to meet up with some Bitcoiners on the road, and say hi. So here is a rough list of the major cities we will pass through...

-Montgomery, AL

-Birmingham, AL

-Nashville, TN

-Louisville, KY

-Indianapolis, IN

-FT. Wayne, IN

-Chicago, IL

Yes. Chicago, is not on the main route. But seriously, if you are going to drive 855 miles...whats another 45 mins.
So come out and say hi. Let's grab a bite, or some coffee. Or just come watch me fill up a gas tank!!!
Once, again...thank you so much guys. Bitcoin is kicking ass in the Florida panhandle. Making a real damn difference. One life at a time.
You rock.

Hola,

Just sitting here in Newbie Jail, waiting for my time to pass.

Thought I would just give a daily update on meals served today. We served 120 meals today through <BITHOC> and Sean's Outpost...all paid for with Bitcoin donations.

I guess that's it.

Hope to be out of Jail soon.
