2  Economy / Collectibles / Cryptoart.com and "Peeling" Private Keys on: March 07, 2022, 10:13:12 AM
Fellow collectors -

I wanted to check in with a few Cryptoart.com print questions that are really best answered by you, the most OG and largest BTC/Crypto collectable community that I'm aware of on the interwebs.  I have several funded cryptoart.com pieces that I, for better or worse, funded a long time ago.

Several of the pieces are still funded, and have never had the security sticker "peeled", "torn back" or "voided".   Several more were funded but subsequently peeled and spent (BCH fork was a time I wanted to dump that shit).  More than a couple unpeeled work are funded with non trivial amounts of coin.  For the last few years (since the 21 million and 1 million club pieces or so) I've either left them unfunded or funded with minimal amounts; lately that amount has been 0.001BTC.  Many thanks to Owlcatz for bringing this to my attention some months back -it seems most collectors prefer funded works - not "a lot" of BTC but some, for whatever reason.  However, in some of the original cases, what was once "a little funding" is now A LOT. lol

So my question is - what would be the best course of action for these pieces WRT funding/peeling?  Especially from the desirability/collectability point of view in mind.  To peel or not to peel, leave 'em alone, hell IDK fund em more?  Just kidding - I won't be funding pieces more  than 0.001 BTC for this epoch - security/risk is too high.

Cryptoart.com is undergoing a metamorphism to "Cryptoart V2" currently, but they still have the same resources for printing.

I have not asked them/him, but if I recall, Cryptoart.com (TF) offered a replacement service for certificates that got damaged; it was of course a non-trivial fee, but it may be worth considering, if all things are considered lol.  So I ask you community:  what should I consider?  Do you think the originals would be more valuable?  I am uncomfortable with some of the pieces being paper wallets, one of a kind....several of them are first editions and funded heavy.

A tid-bit of a detail I wasn't aware of regarding the small certificates vs. medium/large pieces - the certs are printed on a different paper.  The medium and larges are a (higher quality?) different paper because they are really meant for framing and large displays with more light exposure.  Several of my large prints are framed, a few are still in the tubes.

So I had a moment and wanted to throw this one out to the community.  To anyone I have missed getting back to lately on PMs - I've got a week before my "spring break" so I will have time to take a breath.  Hit me up/shake my chain!

3  Economy / Collectibles / Cryptoart.com news - a little update from the Proprieter on: March 07, 2022, 09:43:24 AM
Hi There Collector Community,

I reached out to the proprietor (TF) of Cryptoart.com and he shared a few minor points while letting me know that he's OK with me sharing the following -  this info is now 2 weeks or so old (Feb 22, 2022)...

- Tech development is happening (continuing)
- They have a business development partner helping move the ball down field
- They very much still need a community / social media manager, hence lack of updates here or elsewhere (besides his web site and perhaps at conferences for those luck enough to be world travelers these days)
- Once they have a community / social media manager (hired/paid position if I recall), they intend to setup a discord and make regular updates on social media
- The proprietor in particular is "very motivated" due to the complete lack of any physical art sales - no revenue
- Tech "roadmap" details are necessarily scarce, but may be filled in to some extent this month (March 2022)

Also, I want to post here that (AFAIK and barring any major changes from late 2021) the plan is still to carry forward with BOTH physical and NFT forms of future art ("Form Agnostic").  That is a great relief to the majority of us here, as consensus here seems to certainly favor the physical form, as am I.

I'll post more within this or another thread if he updates me again, when I can find a little time.  I did tell him that he should post more here to at least move his status off "newbie" lol - he's obviously a very busy person right now.

Please feel free to post thoughts and comments here.  I'm sure it would be in our (the collector communities') best interest to let Cryptoart.com know what we think - what we like, what we don't, and what we feel about the products both old and new - especially regarding "NFTization".

Finally, I definitely don't have time nor qualifications to consider the role of "community / social media manager" position; so if anyone has any suggestions, message Cryptoart.com with them or me and I'll relay offline.  That said I seem to be one of the few in this community sharing the progress of the project; it's usually because I email TF every now and then to bug him for new pieces lol. I think it would be great to have a visible and active contact; I do have a fear that because it's a paid position, if that person moves on, as they inevitably do when something is a "(paid) job" -the info stops.  I hope that whoever eventually fills that role is an actual active Cryptoart collector and enthusiast; that way at least the information and networking may continue despite any unforeseen circumstances.

Thanks All and Relic On!

4  Economy / Collectibles / [WTB] or [WTT] Satoshi Roundtables from Cryptoart.com on: November 25, 2021, 08:14:20 PM
Hi All,

I know it's a shot in the dark, but I figured why not....

Thanks much!
5  Economy / Collectibles / Cryptoart - what are the error prints? on: October 26, 2021, 10:22:21 PM
I saw another few threads where some collectors mentioned "error prints" in their collections.  Can anyone elaborate what the errors are and how to identify them?  For example : "Cryptoart - 'The Tinkerer' (error print)".   Thanks!
6  Economy / Collectibles / [WTB] Cryptoart "Bits of Change" on: October 11, 2021, 10:40:22 PM
Looking to buy any size or number "Bits of Change" by Nina Yankovich.  This was a run of 200 small, not sure if mediums or larges ever made it to the press.  Thanks!

PS:  I'm also looking for other unusual Cryptoart pieces that are unusual, misprints, etc.  Also Satoshi Round Tables, but I really don't have my hopes up at all.
7  Bitcoin / Mining support / Butterfly Labs Monarch 700GH oldie on: August 06, 2017, 12:33:35 AM
So I have a Butterfly Labs Monarch 700GH miner on a sled, and I'm striking out on setting up the miner software.  Right now I'm back to trying BFGMiner for Windows, and it looks like I may have a driver issue because BFGMiner isn't recognizing the miner in the USB port.  I updated the original driver that Windows populated to the BitFORCE SHA 256 driver.  Any thoughts on getting BFGMiner to recognize my ASIC spaceheater?  Thanks!
8  Bitcoin / Mining support / BFL Monarch space heater on: August 05, 2017, 11:58:32 PM
I just picked up a Butterfly Labs Monarch 700GH miner on a sled with a 750 watt power supply.  I know this miner is not efficient enough to mine prifitably but I plan to use it to heat a small room in my cold upstate NY house in the winter.  The problem is, with Butterfly labs gone, I have not been able to get the thing mining yet.  It is very clean, no dust, and looks like new.  My major problem is the mining software. I have tried several times running bfg miner on a raspberry pi, but so far keep hitting walls.  I also tried  running BFL's "Easy Miner" software but it throws an error when I launch it.  So, I'm basically starting this thread to see if anyone can help me out setting this old ASIC miner up.  Any advice would be welcome.  Cheers!
