1  Other / Off-topic / Hitler Bitcoin thread on: February 11, 2014, 11:18:40 PM
In times of turmoil a strong leader is needed.

Thus I am shamelessly reposting the Hitler HODL video in its own thread:

True responses to this thread should be in the form of hitler videos or memes only.

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Maxmin's 2011 bitcoin song due a revival on: February 02, 2014, 07:28:44 PM

I loved this at the time but now the community is so much larger I think a revival of the best bitcoin song ever is due.

Enjoy!
3  Bitcoin / Armory / Print out addresses from offline armory? on: January 20, 2014, 11:03:38 PM
The paper backup stores the root to recreate the wallet. Is there a paper backup option to print out selected addresses ie offline watch only list?

Obviously I could copy and paste for printing or saving on usb but wondering if I have missed something in armory for this.

Thanks in advance and great wallet from the developers.
4  Economy / Speculation / Reminds me of the good old days - warm nostalgic glow! on: December 18, 2013, 10:30:54 AM
All this Chinese FUD reminds me of olden days and crashes of yore.

'Buy high, sell low'
'Bitcoin is crashing'

Those whippersnappers new to bitcoin just don't realise that the train is only pausing and will soon leave the station again.

'All aboard'

Choo choo choo!

The follies of bitcoin youth heh!

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Valid private keys - is a SHA256 hash always valid as a private key? on: December 11, 2013, 04:06:14 PM
Hi all
I'm working out ways to create multiple addresses from one private key - essentially so that one private key can be a 'canary' address but that several layers of salted and derived keys can be made from the one private key.

This will enable warning if the private key is found, as the 'canary' address will lose it bitcoins, alerting the owner of the coins that the larger address is potentially now insecure.

If I create a SHA256 digest from any string of characters, which may include an existing private key + more information, will the result be in a format that is a valid private key? Huh

Thanks in advance.

7  Economy / Speculation / Flash Bubble! on: October 24, 2013, 01:18:47 PM
There was a flash spike in the BTC/USD price today on many exchanges.

BTC/USD on Bitstamp spiked from 0.004849 BTC/USD
to 0.006402 BTC/USD over the course of several minutes.

The bubble was short lived however and within a few hours the BTC/USD bubble had burst and corrected to close to pre bubble levels.

BTC/USD has been correcting for some months now, with many analysts predicting all time lows over the next few weeks....

8  Economy / Speculation / Margin Trading and Flash Crashes on: October 24, 2013, 12:55:43 PM
I'm generally a buy and holder rather than a trader but would love to increase my BTC holdings towards my own BTC long term target.

Consequently I used a little BTC on a margin trading platform to leverage my position long.

I survived the flash crash today but do wonder if there are some large players creating these crashes just to wipe out people's margin positions.

It would make sense as the seller could buy back up without much net loss but with the benefit of taking down various leveraged positions if they were running a trading site.

Seems more profitable than trying to increase one's BTC or US$ holdings that way as the market in general is recovering very quickly after each whale dump.

Thoughts?
Who are the biggest BTC margin trading players?
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Idealist or Bitcoin Entrepreneur ? on: September 25, 2013, 04:16:39 PM
Only one choice allowed.
Whichever choice you identify with the most.
I've split Entrepreneur and Opportunist but some might argue this should be combined.

(edit sorry re typo in the title - should be are YOU ......)

11  Economy / Gambling / Idea: correspondence poker for bitcoin on: September 06, 2013, 06:50:29 PM
There is a 'correspondence poker' web site where one plays heads up poker on many different tables at once but with turn duration of 24 - 48 hours.

I was quite into it a few years ago. It works well on phones, commuting or on the loo!

Usually 20-30 tables per opponent.

If someone develops a bitcoin version I would be in.

(Move to gambling if more appropriate)
12  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin Faith on: July 06, 2013, 07:36:42 AM
The believers are being tested.

In years to come you will descend to the ground level of the mega cities to a small faded bar.
In the neon gloom the barman will serve you your spirits for a satoshi as you recount your story.
'I was rich once you know. I had 100 bitcoins. Remember dollars? Well the price of bitcoin in Old Dollars kept changing. I held in 2011. I kept my coins in 2012. I even kept them in spring 2013. But that summer, that terrible mad summer, I sold them. All.
See that block up there? 'Bulls Corner' they call it? So high it's in the cloud at times. There is a Penthouse on the 200th floor.
Know how much it cost?
50 bitcoins.
I was rich once you know.'

'Barman would you put another drink on tab? My Satoshis arrive tomorrow.'

The barman points to a sign on the wall:
'Prouhdon's Bar - btc only, no fiat, no credit'

13  Economy / Speculation / Would you encourage your friends or family to buy BTC? on: June 10, 2013, 10:39:25 AM
I'm in BTC for the long haul as it supports a healthier global economy (based on real investment not debt and pension raiding) as well as my own goals to increase my purchasing power and keep my wife happy!

I do accept however that a medium term dollar equivalent (at today's values not including hyperinflation) could be $1000 or $0 with a low (2 digit) dollar value being less likely than $0.

Would you therefore encourage friends or family to speculate on bitcoin? Would you feel bad if they did and bitcoin broke and became worthless? Would you avoid talking about this to avoid this risk?

Just interested in your views on this.

15  Other / Beginners & Help / Newb speculation thread! on: April 19, 2013, 08:38:15 AM
So I've dumped my stash of 12 BTC into the market at $133.

In the long run I'm bullish that dollars could fall in value so that 1BTC = $1000 US, however I think the short term exchange issues will lead to a fall to $50s or even late $30s.

The rest of my stash is for gambling with an aim to get to 1000 - 2000 bitcoins. I see that as the magic number to really change your life once bitcoin reaches its full purchasing value.
