1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [ANN}gpumap, determine physical location of the NVIDIA GPU's on windows on: January 11, 2018, 02:36:37 PM
Ever wondered which physical video card is assigned as GPU2 or GPU6? Troubleshooting nightmares? Your miner reported that GPU7 failed of the bus. How do you know which physical card is assigned as GPU7?

Here is an ingenious way to determine physical location of the NVIDIA GPU's on windows.

When executed, first, it will turn all GPU fans OFF. Then it will turn only GPU0 fan ON allowing you to physically map which one is GPU0 by simply looking at which fan is spinning. By pressing "y" button, it will turn GPU0 OFF and move on to the next GPU. It will turn GPU fans ON then OFF, one by one until the last GPU is reached.

It's highly inspired by @leenoox's gpumap for nvOC v0019-2.0.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / windows or linux on: January 05, 2018, 10:06:53 AM
I'm a big fan of linux, all of my rigs were running linux(ubuntu, nvOC), I believed that linux was cheaper, more stable, more efficiency, easer to management etc. Recently I built a couple of windows rigs because amd rx vega cards require windows to reach best performance, I also built a windows nvidia gtx 1080ti rig, then I realize that windows is better for mining.

1.It's free, doesn't need to be actived.
2.It's stable, never run into issues. nvidia-smi sometimes hang on my linux rigs, but it never happened on the windows rigs. I have a bot calls nvidia-smi every 5 minutes and report GPU temp to a server.
3.It's as easy as linux to be managed, use teamviewer and openssh.
4.It's more firendly to newbie.
5.Some great miners are windows only, for example hsrminer.

I'm considering switching all of my rigs from linux to windows, what do you think about it?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [ANN][OPEN SOURCE]Command line tool to get RX VEGA temperature and fan speed. on: November 06, 2017, 05:47:43 PM
I build a 2xVEGA rig to mine XMR and need a command line tool on windows to monitor the GPU temperature and fan speed. Unfortunately I haven't found one on the internet, so I build it from scratch.

Only tested against Windows 10 fall creators update, blockchain driver Aug23, 2xVEGA56.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / how to choose mining pool? on: July 24, 2017, 07:49:07 AM
I use the pool which has the largest hashrate, for example, ethermine.org for ETH, lbry.suprnova.cc for LBC, is it correct? assuming the pools has same fee, does the pool which has larger hashrate give me more coins?

thanks,
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Do you think 100% fan speed harm the fan? on: July 24, 2017, 02:09:59 AM
I talked to 2 fan sellers, they both said that there was no different between 70% and 100%. If this is true, I would like set the GPU fan speed to 100% to make GPU cooler, what do you think about it?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / miners, when and how do you sell your coins? on: June 15, 2017, 02:59:21 AM
sell them daily, weekly or monthly?
to BTC, USD or something else?
