104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoins in mainland China on: June 09, 2011, 09:26:25 AM
I have been telling many people in mainland China about Bitcoins,  some of them seem very interested.
Can someone explain for me how easy/difficult it will be for the great firewall of China to be able to stop the spread of bitcoins?

Is it possible that a non technical person inside of China will have trouble sending and receiving bitcoins with someone outside of China?

I contacted the guy from Al Jazeera doing a story on BTC to see if there was anything  I could do to help him with the story.
He said that he was looking for someone to do an in person interview in NYC.

If there is anyone in that area willing to do this,  please contact him at

He mentioned doing it by skype,  but sounded like he would prefer someone in person.

113  Economy / Trading Discussion / Large Roadblock to Bitcoin being accepted by Large companies on: May 15, 2011, 09:14:52 PM
I run a company of a little over 30 people.  We recently have stated accepting bitcoin as payment and ran into our first security issue recently.
It then occurred to me how incredibly difficult it will be for companies to manage their bitcoins.
With bitcoins,  it just takes one honest mistake,  or one dishonest action by any single person in the accounting department who has access to the bitcoin wallet to lose all of the bitcoins.   Many companies need hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in checking accounts to take care of ongoing company expenses.

What steps can companies take to prevent one employee from transferring all of the money away?

What steps can be taken to prevent an accountant at Microsoft for example,  from stealing $100M worth of bitcoins in one shot?

Please give me your thoughts on security measures that companies will need to take to prevent the theft of all of their bitcoins.
Having the owner handle every single transaction personally is not practical for organizations of any size.
In order for bitcoin to become mainstream,  these problems will need to be solved.
114  Other / Obsolete (selling) / WTS Just about any product you can find on Newegg.com for BTC!!! on: May 15, 2011, 06:02:59 PM
I specialize in optical transceivers used in Cisco equipment, so pricing on my current website for items other than those are not  up to date.
However, I have access to just about any kind of computer parts you guys need at prices that are just about the same as www.newegg.com
I'm working on having an automated shopping cart that supports Bitcoin payments soon,  but we are still a few weeks away for that.

For now, I'm willing to accept payment in bitcoins at whatever the current mtgox exchange is at the time of sale.
What kinds of products would you be most interested in?

Here are a few examples that I think people may be interested in:

Hitachi 1TB HDS721010CLA332 SATA2 U300 7200rpm 32MB Hard Drive  $59
Hitachi 2TB HDS723020BLA642 SATA3 U300 7200rpm 64MB Hard Drive  $125

Samsung 2.5 inch 128GB 470 Series SATA Solid State Drive(SSD), Retail $259
Samsung 2.5 inch 256GB 470 Series SATA Solid State Drive(SSD), Retail $499

GA-583UD1G   GIGABYTE ATI Radeon HD5830 1GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card   $249
MSI-585TFR   MSI ATI Radeon HD5850 Twin Frozr II 1GB DDR5 DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card   $277
PowerColor ATI Radeon HD6970 2GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/2x Mini DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card    $379
PowerColor ATI Radeon HD6950 1GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/2x Mini DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card    $269

In most cases I will be able to match or be within a few % of Newegg's price.
Just about everything can ship the same day you order.
If there is anything specific you would like,  email me directly at roger@memorydealers.com
or post the part number below and I will add the price to the list above.
Sending a private message through the forum will give the slowest reply.

Lets get the real BTC economy going!

115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 135 BTC Stolen from my Deepbit account!!!!!!!! on: May 14, 2011, 03:09:06 PM
--------------------UPDATE----------------------

I just head that the thief logged in from IP address:
94.75.217.249
"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1"

--------------------------------------------------

Please help!
I woke up this morning,  logged into my deepbit account at 7:35AM PST on 5-14-2011 to see how things were going,  and someone had transfered all my bitcoins to address:
15YaS8ux9u6YUrS6DmdTZa1NaLecNNNCKT  and set it continue to send to that address as soon as my account received even 0.01 additional bitcoins.

My password was a combination of letters and numbers,  and I assumed it was reasonably secure.  (perhaps not)
The only people who knew my password,  were myself,  and a couple of other employees at MemoryDealers, and all of them say they did not change anything.

The following information comes up in that address in the block explorer:

Address 15YaS8ux9u6YUrS6DmdTZa1NaLecNNNCKT

Short link: http://blockexplorer.com/a/2tZky3pBUi
First seen?: Block 123886 (2011-05-14 12:43:27)

Hash160?: 31d94e8645d5e7f93ad8deeefe69a0a911bd9589
Public key?:

Ledger?

Note: While the last "balance" is the accurate number of bitcoins available to this address, it is likely not the balance available to this person. Every time a transaction is sent, some bitcoins are usually sent back to yourself at a new address (not included in the Bitcoin UI), which makes the balance of a single address misleading. See the wiki for more info on transactions.

Does anyone know how I can try to track down who stole my bitcoins and where they went?!!!!!

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated!

-----------------------------Edited 5/3/2011---------------------------------------
I'm starting a Bitcoin national radio campaign.
It will run on a nationally syndicated radio program on about 100 stations nationwide, including XM satellite radio, 6 days per week.
http://www.freetalklive.com/affiliates  (I think many listeners will already be interested in something like bitcoin)

The Bitcoin ad will be a 30 live read and a 30 second recorded ad, each will run 6 times per week.  (12 ads total)

I currently am paying $2500 USD a month for my ad contract.
For anyone who would like to help out with the cost, you are welcome to chip in a few bitcoins.  (you can make a pledge by posting below.)

My current radio ad is this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_wPsvmEG6A  (We will replace this with a bitcoin ad)

I've posted the sample wording for the ad in a post below,  please read it and give me your thoughts.
