1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [xmr-stak] Any simple script for restarting computer if mining stops? on: July 31, 2017, 12:39:14 PM
I'm running xmr-stak on a computer and I was thinking if there is a way I could detect when xmr stak stops running or the connection isn't there anymore.

This happens once a day maybe, and it's usually that xmr-stak is open, but it froze on a certain timestamp. It doesn't respond to commands like hashrate or connection.

Currently I have it set up so that it starts every time the computer boots (win10x64), and keeps attempting to run it every 5 minutes if there isn't one running atm. So a simple hack could be to just somehow detect if the program is still running, and if it's not, it would restart in 5 minutes automatically...

Any advice?

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Why do my GPU's stop running on: July 28, 2017, 01:01:41 PM
SETUP:
win10x64, HDD

Mb: ASUS AM3+ SABERTOOTH AMD 990FX R3.0 ATX Motherboard - Black
PSU: EVGA 1000 W GQ Series ATX Modular Power Supply with Active PFC
CPU: AMD FX 8350 Black Edition "Vishera" CPU (8 Core, AM3+, Clock 4.0 GHz, Turbo 4.2 GHz, 8 MB L3 Cache, 125 W)

GPUs:
Gigabyte Radeon RX 460 2GB
Gigabyte Radeon RX 550 2GB
XFX Radeon RX 550 2GB
Asus Radeon R7 240
ATI Radeon HD 5770
ATI Radeon HD 5770

I'm connecting all of the with risers. I should have enough energy through my PSU, and I'm trying to connect them through as many different cables from PSU as possible, so as not to have any 'slave' GPUs (I don't really know if that's a thing. It used to be on old PCs years ago).

As much as I try different variations (even connecting only the top three GPUs in and leaving the crappier ones out), The XFX 550 and Gigabyte 460 keep shutting down once I get into Windows, and even getting in is a problem, sometimes the OS just shutting down, sometimes remaining on a black screen...

I tried different drivers, but I can't seem to get them to work. And my system can't seem to become stable. What am I doing wrong?

Please, feel free to follow up, I know I haven't given enough info, I'm just so frustrated. I've been working on this setup for more than 20 hours now, trying to troubleshoot it, but I can't seem to solve it.

Please, help me Smiley
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining Monero on: July 14, 2017, 09:44:06 PM
I've gotten into mining only recently. I've had experience with mining monero for the last half a year, but only on regular PC's when they were idle... I've now started the process of building a mining rig.. and I keep seeing everyone is mining ethereum, and I was wondering.. Am I missing something? Is ethereum more profitable?

Please can someone explain it to a noob? Smiley
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Order on amazon on: July 03, 2017, 02:23:15 PM
I'm a newbie so be gentle Smiley

I ordered parts on amazon (had a gift certificate I could use). The GPUs are supposed to be dispatched in 2 weeks. Was just curious if this will actually happen or will they be out of stock by then. I know that there's a short supply these days. Should I look for an alternative way of buying GPUs, and if so, where?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / What are your stress test questions before investing? on: June 23, 2017, 12:55:21 PM
I recently saw somewhere on this forum someone quoting 5 questions they use to stress test a currency before investing in it.

What are your stress test questions or strategies you implement before deciding to invest in currencies.
Please also share your experience. Are you a grandmaster or a newbie?  Smiley How well have those strategies served you in the past?
7  Economy / Economics / What do these new people getting rich off crypto mean to the economy at large? on: June 21, 2017, 02:47:20 PM
I apologize if this question is in any way naive.. I'm not really any kind of economics expert. I was just wondering what might happen to the world economy since there are so many new people getting rich off these cryptocurrencies... Just based off speculation or holding the right coins a lot of people have gained in wealth in the past years. And it doesn't seem to be slowing down.

So, you have a lot of 'new money' propagating even 'newer money'... and so on and so on, until a lot of people are pretty rich. Does this mean that there is a huge depression ahead of us? Surely just making more and more money can't go on forever, can it?

I'm sure I'm not seeing the big picture here so please, could someone explain it to me?
