1  Bitcoin / Mining support / 7850 on debian - "Your graphics adapter is not supported by this driver" on: January 14, 2014, 09:36:57 PM
Hi,

I've managed to get cgminer and several different cards (including this one) working on Windows, however I am now trying to get a HD 7850 working on Debian 7.3 64 bit (desktop, not headless server).

I have installed debian, and tried to install the latest drivers from AMD's website (amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.run), and got the following error:
"Your graphics adapter is not supported by this driver. Installation will not proceed"

So I took a step back and have been trying to follow the steps from this guide:
https://litecoin.info/Debian_Linux_cryptocoin_mining_rig_setup_guide

QUOTE [edited]
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
For each line that starts with deb, add the following to the end: contrib non-free
sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install bzip2 fglrx-driver libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev libudev-dev ntp screen unzip xdm xorg
sudo apt-get purge libfglrx
sudo apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree
sudo apt-get clean

wget --referer=http://www2.ati.com http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-driver-installer-12-8-x86.x86_64.zip
unzip amd-driver-installer-12-8-x86.x86_64.zip && sh amd-driver-installer-8.982-x86.x86_64.run --force
When the installer starts, just press Enter on any screens until the driver finishes installing.
Initial graphics card setup (also do this after adding or removing cards):
sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf && aticonfig --adapter=all --initial
ENDQUOTE

so all of those steps go fine (including installation of the 12-8 version of the amd drivers), except the last command, where it complains that /etc/X11/xorg.conf doesn't exist. I deleted that part and re-ran just sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial, and got the error:
"aticonfig: No supported adapters detected"

sudo lspci yields:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ/P/PL Memory Controller Hub (rev 02)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 02)

To my untrained eye, it looks like the amd adapter isn't showing up in the list of connected hardware, so I rebooted and tried lspci again - same issue.

I tried the whole proccedure again, with a different HD 7850 (same make - MSI - and model, but different card) in a different computer, also running net-install of debian wheezy 7.3 64bit and ran into exactly the same set of issues (latest driver doesn't recognise the card and won't install; previous driver installs but card doesn't show up in lspci - or cgminer - afterwards).

I'm not sure what else to look for - I've searched around and can't seem to find any reports that the HD 7850 won't work with the latest drivers, nor reports of others having issues with the HD 7850 not showing up after successful installation of the 12-8 amd drivers.

Suggestions appreciated!

2  Economy / Auctions / [FAST AUCTION] Casascius 1BTC 2011 v1 holo error coin for sale on: November 30, 2013, 12:51:56 PM
2011 Casascius original holo error series 1 / v1 coin for sale. Fully funded; unredeemed (1AkX2psT)

If you search for the firstbits on https://www.casascius.com/fulllist.txt you will see the address is:
https://blockchain.info/address/1AkX2psTtWw8CUfU1ptjyoPKiyGmzHFWHp

There are a few very small colorations on the front (presumably from air exposure - they're just about visible in the photo), but as you can see it is definitely in good condition. I received some interest on this from a few parties without running a formal auction, but I think that the interest has been at below market price, so I've decided to run a fast auction. This auction is for a 2011 holo-error casascius coin; this means that the small repeating text in the hologram says "Casacius" instead of "Casascius".

These "holo error" coins have become prized by collectors as you can see in Chainsaw's collectible physical bitcoin thread here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=214589.0

(in the notation format used in the forum, this is a "1 BTC Brass S1 [NG]")

As you can see in the thread, the highest price that has been recorded for a 1BTC coin is 5BTC. The lowest price that has been seen is 3BTC, and those were such a good deal they were snapped up by Chainsaw himself.

Starting bid: 2.25BTC
Minimum increment: 0.06BTC

For this starting price, you will not find a better deal on a holo-error 1BTC coin elsewhere.

Location is London, UK. Shipping is additional and must be paid by the bidder. You can choose your own shipping (so you can decide the speed / cost you would like), as long as it is signed for so that I can verify the coin has been received. International buyers will be responsible for their own customs clearance so be mindful of this. I will ship this out very promptly once payment is received.

Auction closes tomorrow (Sunday, 1 December) at 21:00 UK time; deadline will be extended by 3 minutes after each new bid once this deadline has passed (e.g. if someone bids at 20:59, bid deadline will be 21:02 unless someone bids again before 21:02).

Will wrap in bubblewrap to avoid impacts.

Best

3  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Casascius 1BTC 2011 v1 holo error auction - 2.25 BTC starting bid on: November 27, 2013, 01:00:00 AM
I can't delete my "for sale" post here, but the coin is no longer for sale at a fixed price, so I'm editing this post to let you know it is going for auction instead (auction closes tomorrow so don't delay):

4  Economy / Goods / [CLOSED] Casascius silver 1BTC: 1.25[btc] each inc. UK shipping on: November 24, 2013, 12:20:29 AM
This has been closed shortly after opening due to the relevant coin rolls being sold out at casascius.com - apologies. Original text is below.

I missed the previous group buys for this so here goes:

Group buy for 20 Casascius silver 1 BTC with gold plated B and rim:

1.25 BTC each based on current price (subject to change if Casascius prices change; price changes will need confirmation and payment before order is placed of course). UK tracked shipping included in price; EU shipping is on top (please post your location to check price).

Terms (PLEASE READ):
Delivery: everyone in the group buy will be subject to the risk of non-delivery (I do not guarantee this), but I personally don't see this as a big risk. Casascius has a flawless reputation. When I re-ship them I will use UK tracked shipping which is normally insured up to about £50. I've never seen a UK royal mail tracked parcel get lost, but in the highly unlikely event your coin is lost between me and you, you will get whatever is paid out by the insurance once it is paid out. I will assist you in your claim. I am happy to insure to higher values on request. From my side, please check my trust feedback; I have dealt with similar BTC sums before, no problem.
Customs: I reserve the right to charge extra for customs duties or couriers' "handling fees" to the extent that any are charged to me. Typically I have seen amounts of £10-£20 charged for this kind of transaction. Onward shipping will be withheld until your share of customs is paid; share will be on a per-coin (not per order) basis. Again, this would also be the case if you were buying coins directly yourself (actually it would probably be worse as there is usually a minimum customs / handling charge, and the charge would not be shared between multiple buyers). You will be responsible for any customs charges when I send the coins on to you, but I do not believe this will happen to many locations because most of Europe is free of customs charges from other European countries I believe: http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/customs/procedural_aspects/imports/free_circulation/index_en.htm
Returns: none - I am not a business seller; distance selling regulations do not apply.

For me this isn't really a way to make a substantial amount of BTC, just some compensation for the risk of organising as I will be responsible for making sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. It just saves everyone paying separate postage. If you prefer to buy direct, feel free - I just wanted to save a few of us a few pounds. If I don't get sufficient interest here, I just won't proceed with the GB and will order any coins I want directly.

Please reply in this thread with the number of coins you're interested in. Once we get to 20, I will post a payment address and place the order.

Who's next?
5  Economy / Goods / [UK/EU GROUP BUY] [CLOSED] Physical silver plated bhCoin serie2 on: November 15, 2013, 11:58:27 PM
Group buy aimed at UK buyers interested in 0.1 BTC silver plated physical coins as per:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=331084.msg3551411#msg3551411

GROUP BUY IS NOW CLOSED - FUNDS ARE IN ESCROW READY TO RELEASE TO SELLER ONCE COINS ARRIVE SAFELY IN THE UK

EDITED AS PRICE REDUCED BY 10% TO 0.18!

Great opportunity to get some early bhCoins at an accessible denomination (0.1 BTC) which is important given the sky-rocketing BTC price (who can afford the early 25 BTC Casascius coins now?!). Some first and second series Casascius coins are selling for 5x their face value!

Will consider shipping to EU if tracked shipping is not prohibitively expensive.

Will only make a purchase if I get interest from enough parties to fill an order of 6 or more coins to make it worthwhile. I'm interested in 2 myself, so that's 4 (or more) additional coins.

Price will be 0.18 BTC per coin including tracked UK shipping, or slightly more for international shipping to the EU (I will charge 0.18 BTC + shipping cost, whatever it might be). Buying one yourself from the manufacturer would cost 0.19 + 0.04 = 0.23 BTC.

Terms:
Delivery: everyone in the group buy will be subject to the risk of non-delivery by bhCoin (I do not guarantee this), but I personally don't see this as a big risk (first sale seemed to go fine).
Returns: none - I am not a business seller; distance selling regulations do not apply.

For me this isn't really a way to make money (0.18 is only a few pounds more than the cost of buying the coins, paying the postage for them to get to me and then paying the postage from me to you; doesn't really cover the cost of my time) so this is more a way to reduce my cost of buying a couple of these. If you prefer to buy direct, feel free - I just wanted to save a few of us a few pounds. If I don't get sufficient interest here, I just won't proceed.

Please reply in this thread with the number of coins you're interested in.

6  Economy / Auctions / [FAST AUCTION] Bitburner Fury board, 45GH/s+, in hand, ends tomorrow on: November 02, 2013, 05:33:08 PM
I received some interest on this from a few parties without running a formal auction, but not quite at the level I wanted, so I've decided to run a fast auction based on the recent template from cryptx: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=321331.0

  • Hashrate: 45GH/s+ (currently being achieved*)
  • 16 Bitfury ASIC chips
  • 4 Layer thermally enhanced PCB
  • External clock
  • PIC32 native USB-Controller
  • CAN-Bus inter-module communication option (it is possible to use only one USB connection for up to 8 boards if you have the right cables)
  • Power connectors: 6 Pin VGA, barrel jack for wallwart, terminal block.
  • Power requirement: 50 up to 75 Watts
  • Onboard 60A adjustable core voltage power supply
  • Host software: Cgminer
  • Temperature controlled fan

*This is what I'm achieving. Depending on the environment it may vary, so this is not guaranteed, but can reasonably be expected (depending on settings) and some people have managed to adjust settings to squeeze out about 10% more

Included:
  • Assembled Bitburner Fury PCB
  • Including 16 Bitfury ASIC chips
  • Micro-USB Cable
  • Cooling fan

Starting bid: 2.5BTC
Minimum increment: 0.11BTC

Location is London, UK. Shipping is additional and must be paid by the bidder. You can choose your own shipping (so you can decide the speed / cost you would like), as long as it is signed for so that I can verify the board has been received. Buyers from outside of the EU will be responsible for their own customs clearance so be mindful of this. I will ship this out very promptly once payment is received.

Auction closes tomorrow (Sunday, 3 November) at 20:00 UK time; deadline will be extended by 3 minutes after each new bid once this deadline has passed (e.g. if someone bids at 19:59, bid deadline will be 20:02 unless someone bids again before 20:02).

7  Economy / Auctions / [Interest] Bitburner Fury on: October 31, 2013, 05:11:52 PM
I have a Bitburner Fury in hand, currently hashing at 46-48 GH/s. Based in the UK.

Looking for offers in the region of BTC3.8 (which was achieved in cryptx's auction for the same product earlier today).

Will ship anywhere that signed for delivery is available but buyer must pay shipping, and must be signed for (this way you can get the shipping that you want).

8  Economy / Goods / [WTS] - Car: Mazda MX-5 convertible, racing green, 1998, 78k, FSH, London UK on: October 28, 2013, 09:55:30 PM
Car for sale in London, UK. Contact via PM with questions or offers.

MOT until September 2014.
Tax until January 2014.
5 Speed Manual.
Mohair hood.
78k miles.

Replaced sills last MOT. Two of the most common problems with the (otherwise extremely reliable) MX-5 have therefore been fixed (vinyl hood replaced with mohair; sills repaired with new steel welded).

Service History
21/08/99 – 5,448 miles - Godfrey David Mazda, Nottingham.
19/08/00 – 11,516 miles - Godfrey David Mazda, Nottingham.
16/08/01 – 18,914 miles - Godfrey David Mazda, Nottingham.
07/02/02 – 25,235 miles - Godfrey David Mazda, Nottingham.
06/08/03 – 34,231 miles - Godfrey David Mazda, Nottingham.
27/07/04 – 43,790 miles - Morley Auto Services, Surrey.
19/12/05 – 53,310 miles - Drake & Fletcher Mazda, Kent.
10/01/07 – 63,185 miles - Dandy Cars, Essex. (MX5 Specialists).
05/12/07 – 70,015 miles - Colindale Mazda, London.
22/11/08 – 72,639 miles - Docklands Mazda, London.
12/12/09 – 74,749 miles - Docklands Mazda, London.
13/11/10 – 75,963 miles - Docklands Mazda, London.
25/08/12 – 77,004 miles - Docklands Mazda, London.
13/09/13 – 77,880 miles - Docklands Mazda, London.

I bought this because I wanted something fun and reliable, and it has been both of those things. I'm only selling it now as I have been using it only a few times per year because I need more seats!

The mohair hood looks fantastic, much better than the standard vinyl.

Other than the mohair hood and the replaced sills, the car is totally standard.

There are the usual dents and scratches from a car of this age. It does have two specific areas to flag though – one is a cluster of dents next to the right hand side wheel arch (hit and run while parked) – there was a large dent that I’ve had pushed out, but there are still a few small ones. It only affects the one panel, so you could just get that replaced (I never thought it was a big enough problem though – purely cosmetic). There is also a scratch on the bumper on the front left. You can see these in the photos.

Happy to answer any questions via PM.

Also happy to arrange viewings (and test drives if you have comprehensive insurance).

Bitcoin or bank transfer only please, as I will need to have the funds cleared when I sign over the car. Looking for £1,350 which translates to BTC11.3 at current rates.

9  Economy / Auctions / [Interest] KnC Mercury on: October 15, 2013, 11:13:55 AM
KnC Mercury order at "In Progress" stage; probably just a few days before it ships (based on past performance of KnC, they have missed deadlines, but by a few days).

KnC Mercury is a quarter of Jupiter hashrate. Jupiter is 550+GH/s according to KnC - https://www.kncminer.com/categories/miners and cost $6,999 for the version that is being shipped now (the version you can buy for $4,995 will likely ship in late November).

Mercury uses 1 KnC board instead of the 4 boards in the Jupiter - https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-28 which translates to about 125GH/s, or about 140GH/s based on what some people have achieved with Jupiters using the latest firmware - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg3321509#msg3321509

Order date / pay date: 5 July
Order number: 333x

Would reship from the UK; package would be unopened so that you know I'm not delaying anything to mine with your device.

I want to know if people would be interested in buying my place in the queue now, or would be interested in buying only once I have it in hand.

At 125GH/s, for BTC17 (as an example), you would be getting 7.35GH/s per 1BTC which I think beats anything else that's shipping now; people are offering 35BTC for a Saturn - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=307077.0

PM with offers.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / setting up bitcoin clients on: April 24, 2013, 12:17:19 AM
Is it recommended to use a shared wallet service, or a client on your individual computer? I'm not talking about the "hyper-sensitive" version of the wallet that I've read about (where you boot up off of a live CD to create it, print it out, save it to a USB drive and then delete it) but for common everyday usage.

What do most people use for <10BTC amounts?
