Due to the spam attacks in recent months, I was searching for a precise formula to estimate transaction size so I can attach enough fees for a quick conformation. To my surprise, there are 2 formulas:

TX Size = 180 bytes per input + 34 bytes per output + 10 bytes +/- number of inputs

TX Size = 148 bytes per input + 34 bytes per output + 10 bytes +/- number of inputs

Wanting to verify which one is correct, I stumbled upon "uncompressed public keys" and "compressed public keys" (there are always new things to learn about bitcoin). Compressed public keys make transactions smaller! I learnt that this is actually a legacy issue since nearly all current wallets use "compressed public keys". My address is still using "uncompressed public keys" because I created my address a long time ago (on a wallet service who was slow to update).

So all these years, I have been creating "oversized" transactions and they are bloating the blockchain. I checked my private keys of my addresses. My ancient addresses all begin with "5" and my newer addresses begin with "K" or "L". At least, I know that my wallet provider now supports "compressed public keys".

How can I convert my private key so its public key is compressed?

I got a new android phone and my old phone has 1500+ photos on it. I want my new phone to number photos from 1600 and on. I found a way to do it and it is quite easy. Want to share this method, might help someone here.

• Take 2 photos and 2 videos on your new phone, you should get:
  IMAG0001.jpg
  IMAG0002.jpg
  VIDE0001.mp4
  VIDE0002.mp4
  
  
• Connect your phone to your computer. May need to confirm a message on the phone about usb connection.
  I don't need to download anything and my phone appears as another drive in "My Computer"
  
  
• Browse the files in the internal storage or the external sdcard and look for the "DCIM" folder.
  
  
• Rename the above four files as follows:
  IMAG0001.jpg > IMAG0003.jpg
  IMAG0002.jpg > IMAG1600.jpg (new number you want to start from)
  VIDE0001.mp4 > VIDE0003.mp4
  VIDE0002.mp4 > VIDE0200.mp4 (new number you want to start from)
  
  
• The idea is to create a file name collision to trigger a filename rescan. The phone was supposed to use "IMAG0003.jpg" as the next filename, but it already exists. So, a rescan will force phone to use "IMAG1601.jpg".
  
  
• Unplug your phone and take another photo and video. Their filenames should skip to your target number.

Another member and I spotted this and replied with warnings, the scammer subsequently deleted all his posts.
He will try this again and please be careful. Do NOT download unless you want to test out the malware.

If you have a PC with at least 2GB and more then a few mBTC to your name, you owe it to yourself to test run the latest version of Electrum.

    The network: you'll be running a full node and contribute to the bitcoin network's strength.
