1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / noise solution? on: November 24, 2017, 05:24:35 AM
my miners in the basement really bother me ... and my wife .. even it is in basement ...
the noise makes the basement a painful place to stay ... especially the ant miners ... usually over 80 db...
any suggestion?
i put some thing on the wall, such as 24 Pack - Ice Blue/Charcoal Acoustic Panels Studio Foam Wedges 1" X 12" X 12", hope to reduce the noise level...
but really cannot feel the improvement

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Obelisk Update #1 Sia ASIC on: October 25, 2017, 10:25:35 PM
Hello! Whether you have preordered one or more Obelisk SC1 miners, or have simply signed up to receive emails, we are excited to give you an update on our progress.

First, we have completed version-one of the Obelisk chassis design. We want to ensure that the Obelisk looks far better than existing miners on the market – that it's something you want to flaunt, not something you want to hide. We took our design inspiration, both for the logo and chassis, from companies like Falcon Northwest and Alienware, and sci-fi movies like Star Wars.

The SC1 chassis is designed to support two fans in a push-pull configuration, where air is pushed into the unit through the bottom fan and pulled through and out of the unit by the top fan. This design is very similar to existing Bitcoin miners, because it helps efficiently exchange massive amounts of heat generated by the ASICs.

The PCIe power ports will be on the back of the unit, as well as a power button, LED status indicators, ethernet port, and reset switch. You will be able to stand the unit up like an obelisk, or run it on its side like a traditional Bitcoin miner.

Besides the chassis design, the project is going well, and we are on track for delivery by June 2018. The bulk of our efforts have been focused on chip development, which is a highly complex and lengthy process that costs millions of dollars. Our team is designing a full-custom 28nm ASIC, which means the bulk of the work is done by hand. Most of the funds go directly to human hours to design, test, and verify over and over again.

We have also made progress on the electronics design, hiring a local company to work on the printed circuit boards (PCBs) and control board. This includes a method for communicating with the ASICs, UI/UX for communicating with the user, security mechanisms (like a hardware reset switch), cooling method for dealing with crazy amounts of heat, and power distribution to properly power large quantities of ASICs on a single board. Power distribution is especially tricky – it's easy to distribute power to a few chips, but standard techniques can get very costly when 20+ chips are on a single PCB.

This week we passed 2000 Obelisk sales! The cap for this first batch is at 4000 units. The presale will close in late November, and we'll have more updates with those details in the next few weeks.

And, for those who may want to run their Obelisks off-site, in data centers or colocation facilities (colos), we will be making things a lot easier. We've worked out some deals with facilities, and will be updating our site in the coming days. You'll be able to order Obelisks and send your details right to a colo, or update your existing order to instead ship to a colo. Stay tuned for more details.

Overall, things are moving at a steady pace – which is a great thing! Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.
- Team Obelisk

1st question - the power consumption
the specification is 800 watts, what's the up side? +10%? 15%? wanna to put a 600 watts rig together with the L3+ on a 15 amp breaker, not sure will work or not

2nd question - the best litecoin pool
should use the default ant pool? or any better alternative recommended?

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Innosilicon A4+ Miner, any news? on: October 06, 2017, 03:30:49 AM
Last hear from Innosilicon was September 15th, they sent the following email:

550Mh, 750W, Innosilicon Announces the World most efficent LTC A4+ Miner
Dear A4 LTC miner preorder customers,
Thank you for your trust in Innosilicon and choice in our A4 LTC miners.
Great news to announce: to maximize the profit for our customers during the recent soaring difficulty in LTC mining, Innosilicon world class R & D team just updated our A4 model, launching the exciting new generation of globally leading miner in power and energy efficiency, the A4+ miner. A4+ and its subsequent series will be sure to lead the future market, as the powerful weapon of LTC miners.
As a prototype without much optimization, A4+ can already reach 550Mhs, at 750W. The prototype video is available at The final product to be delivered will have even better specifications as delightful surprises for our pre-order customers! It is our pleasure to bring the mining community the most profitable miners on the market, with leading competitive prowess and lasting resale values for years to come.
We will upgrade your preordered A4 machines to A4 + or future upgrades and ship them in the order of payment. Even though the ultra-low power A4+ miners has higher cost per Mhash, and in the future the prices is likely to rise, for our lucky loyal preorder customers, the price per Mhash will remain the same. The remaining payment will depend on the final spec of the miner before Oct 7th. You will be notified for the remaining payment before delivery. For example, you preordered A4 280Mhs miner totally N dollars, as we upgraded to A4+ with 550Mhs, your total payment will be (550/280)*N dollars. Your deposit will count towards the total payment. For those A4 preorder customers who are willing to upgrade to A4+, the shipping will start in mid Oct and complete by the end of Nov. We are sorry that it is very difficult to accelerate the new product delivery any further. You do not have to contact us, we will contact you before shipment based on payment order.
Future pre-order please still follow the A4 pre-order scheme till we announce the final spec.
Thanks for your attention,

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / JP Morgan bought 3M bitcoin when dip...who should Jamie Dimon fire? on: September 19, 2017, 04:10:08 PM

Chase Bank CEO Jamie Dimon recently rejected Bitcoin as a ‘fraud,” likely causing additional sell offs after the news of the Chinese exchange ban was released. The financial guru commented that Bitcoin was in a bubble not unlike the famous Tulip bubble during the 17th century.

However, in a somewhat surprising move, JP Morgan purchased a large block of Bitcoins just after the CEO’s harsh criticisms, according to a careful observer on Twitter.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum HARD FORK in Sept/Oct, so same fate to Bitcoin Cash? on: September 10, 2017, 12:26:25 AM
Ethereum Core Dev team is going to implement Metropolis Byzantium
, which will:
  • Metropolis Byzantium hits testnet on September 18th
Difficulty Bomb on September 22nd will reduce current income by approximately 20%
Metropolis Byzantium go live on October 9th (not a final date, subject to change)
Mining rewards will increase by approximately 23% after Metropolis Byzantium goes live

A group of miners, investors, developers (mainly in China??not confirmed) believed that Ethereum Core Dev team will hurt their interests:
So they planned a hardfork:
  • "This plan is for Community Activated Hard Fork, or CAHF. You can find technical specs here:

CAHF will be activated “right before” Byzantium HF. We will update the specific time ASAP when the blockstamp of Byzantium hardfork is updated.

CAHF chain will follow and fork existing rules of the Ethereum’s main-chain, except for issuance reduction and POS. We will maintain our POW chain which will be the Ethereum-POW chain (when Ethereum hardforks to POS).

Despite of maintaining “large” network of cryptocurrency costs lots of human resources and other consumption, we will issue 10% of pre-mine inflation for “Develop and ‘storing value’” stake. (This will be 1% inflation of total supply)

Once we mine our stake ‘privately’ and check that there is no further problem on the chain, we will make our repository ‘public’ and release our CAHF geth node. (Will be updated to our twitter account)

Our CAHF developers are serious for monetary policy of CAHF chain therefore we decided CAHF’s total supply approx. 1 billion. When CAHF chain issued total 5 hundred million, we will halve the issuance to 2.5. This decision is from that “Ethereum is not an asset, is a currency”.

We share the same belief with some very early Ethereumers, that decentralization means that more than 1 billion people in 200 countries are using Ethereum as a saving currency and payment network, which comprises of hundreds of thousands of Ethereum services, traders, exchanges and software to be decentralized. We do not believe that decentralization means a decrease of issuance so there will be no more inflation before POS change or change to POS so some accounts that has larger volume of Ethereum takes most of issuance than who doesn’t."

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Sequoia and IDG to Invest $50 Mln in Bitmain on: September 06, 2017, 01:18:28 PM
Jihan got reinforcement  Grin

Jihan Wu and Micree Zhan, founders of the Beijing-based Bitcoin mining company Bitmain Technologies Ltd., welcomed another milestone this year. Sequoia and IDG have provided the company with $50 mln in funding to support the company’s goal of creating innovative chips for artificial intelligence, Bloomberg reports.

Bitmain Technologies Ltd. is known for its mining operations and claims that its own valuation is “in the billions.” In August it was weighing a possible initial public offering, although it’s not clear if it can go ahead with those plans now that China has effectively made ICOs illegal.

Bitmain also runs huge Bitcoin mines and leases mining power to other individuals and companies. In total, the company controls 29% of the hashing power that secures the Bitcoin network, largely through their operation of the mining pool “Antpool.”

With Sequoia and IDG funding, Bitmain will be able to continue their artificial intelligence projects. Bitmain's upcoming artificial intelligence, Sophon, is set to challenge and compete with other tech giants such as Google, AMD, and Nvidia. The goal of Sophon is to train neural networks used in the expanding data centers in the world. Bitmain is looking at launching their own artificial intelligence before the end of 2017.

Monero pool

1. Info

Monero pool.

2. Withdrawal address

Exchange sites like Poloniex, Bittrex needs paymentid to deposit. You should insert paymentid, or your coins would not be confirmed from exchange site.
You can input in "address.paymentid" form at withdrawal address.
If you want to withdraw to exchange sites that don't need paymentid or to your local wallet, just input address only.

3. Server settings

Here are server info for several regions.

U.S.     :
Europe :
Asia     :

4. Miner settings

(1) Claymore Cryptonote miner - Windows, Linux AMD (2% dev fee is included)
Download miner at

NsGpuCNMiner.exe -o ssl:// -u username.workername -p x

Only version 9.7 or higher works properly for miningpoolhub

"ssl://" is specified for secure network connection.
You can mine without this option but it is recommended to use because Claymore miner's devfee gets lower with this.
Also it would help some outer firewall disconnection issues time to time.

(2) CUDA ccminer

(3) JayDDee's cpuminer

(4) Wolf's CPU miner

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / ETH difficulty bomb today on: August 26, 2017, 12:03:27 AM

jump from 1,800T to 2,200T

In addition, the so-called Difficulty-Bomb is actually delayed and will be part of the 2nd Hardfork of Metropolis.
The Difficulty Bomb should cause an expanding difficulty in ethereum's mining.
It is an intermediate step for the gradual replacement from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake.
This is the so called Ethereum "Ice Age".
But for the next Metropolis HF in September 2017 this should be delayed to the 2nd part and replaced by a simple Block Reward reducement from 5 to 3 ether per block.
For those of you wondering what the real world impact of these bombs going off is, they are significantly increasing the amount of time it takes to mine blocks. Before one of the first bombs went off in mid May, it took on average about 14.5 secs to mine one block which contained 5 ETH. If you look at this chart you can see the exact times each subsequent bomb has gone off to the point we are at now were it is taking about 21 secs to mine 1 block of ETH. With the current implementation of Ice Age, this is what block times will look like over the coming bomb drops:
August 25th - 25 seconds
September 24th - 32 seconds
October 31st - 41 seconds
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Looks like RX Vega sucks at mining, on all the coins... on: August 14, 2017, 05:28:12 PM,5173-16.html

And quote  Grin:

Some reviewer said that the hashrate is like on the Frontier Edition(36mhs?) which is nowhere near 70-100 Mh/s

Highly doubtful. Workstation cards are never as good as gaming models for mining. Workstation cards use a different memory cache intended to fit large files. The Vega FE uses a HBC.

High-Bandwidth Cache Controller

The state of the art memory system on Radeon Vega Frontier Edition GPUs removes the capacity limitations of traditional GPU memory. Thanks to automatic, fine-grained memory movement controlled by the high-bandwidth cache controller, Radeon Vega Frontier Edition processors enable creators and designers to work with much larger, more detailed models and assets in real time.
