1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / India: Bitcoin Prices Drop As Media Misinterprets Govt’s Regulation Speech on: February 01, 2018, 01:03:59 PM
Bitcoin markets are reacting to fresh regulatory comments on crypto from India’s finance minister Arun Jaitley, made during his most recent budget speech in the Parliament today, Feb.1.

After Jaitley noted in his speech that cryptocurrency is not legal tender in the country and promised a crackdown on “illegitimate activities” involving crypto, a flood of misinterpreted comments warning of an outright ban appeared across the mainstream press and social media.

Markets in turn fell in trading on Thursday, Bitcoin dipping below $9,512 after breaking $10,300 Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Thoughts?

This is what I was thinking, those media are not being honest on what is really happening with the regulations of cryptocurrency in different countries. There are lots of fake news everywhere and media are the ones who are responsible on spreading this kind of FUDs.

This is what Jaitley said: “The government does not recognize cryptocurrency as legal tender or coin and will take all measures to eliminate the use of these crypto assets in financing illegitimate activities or as part of the payments system.”
He said that cryptocurrency is "not a legal tender" but he doesn't even said that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency are "illegal", it is just that they want to eliminate illegal uses of cryptocurrency.

This are the journalists that are spreading this fake news:

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin-Based Ethereum Smart Contract and Sidechain Rival RSK Launches Today on: December 05, 2017, 03:05:20 AM
RSK Labs has announced that the main network of their Bitcoin-powered smart contract platform is launching in beta on Monday after more than two years of development. The company claims to have secured the support of 90 percent of Bitcoin’s hashing power for merge mining the RSK sidechain. All developers are encouraged to take part in a bug bounty program during this beta phase.

The company’s Chief Scientist, Sergio Lerner, commented:
"We’re very excited to share the RSK mainnet source code with the community. It’s very important for us to get everyone’s feedback and peer review. The RSK project belongs to the whole ecosystem and we need to work together to build the Internet of Value over the Bitcoin Network."

"RSK allows bitcoin miners to increase their profits receiving fees from all smart contracts running on RSK with the same hardware, energy consumption and zero-efficiency loss in their so far primary business – the bitcoin mining."

"We at Slush have completed the merge mining implementation to secure RSK smart contracts while providing a new revenue source to our miners."

"A Bug bounty program has been released to the global community of developers inviting every blockchain programmer as well as audit companies and partners to be part of it, providing feedback and helping to improve the technology."

Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-ethereum-smart-contract-sidechain-rsk-launches/

They said that majority of Bitcoin miners supported RSK and it will be mined alongside Bitcoin’s blockchain in a process called merge mining that will increase the profiability of Bitcoin mining which is good but honestly I do not quite understand everything so I want to ask people who know about this.
What do you think about RSK? Thoughts? What will be the good and bad effects of this? Any impact on Ethereum?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mark Karpeles Gox ICO to revive the exchange on: November 19, 2017, 05:14:56 AM
In a blog post published by Mark Karpeles https://blog.magicaltux.net/article/MtGox-Bankruptcy detailed possible avenues for reviving Mt Gox, the once-dominant Japanese bitcoin exchange that collapsed amid allegations of fraud and mismanagement in early 2014. Hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bitcoin – at then-current prices – were feared lost, though ultimately 202,000 BTC were retained as assets, under the custody of a trustee.

Mark Karpeles:
"Launch an ICO to raise money to hypothetically revive MtGox. This sounds more challenging, both legally and because there is no guarantee of raising enough to revive MtGox. In case there is not enough raised it could still be locked to be distributed to creditors, which would be better than nothing."

"Should anyone have 245 million USD sitting around and want to purchase MtGox, just drop me an email," he wrote.

Source: https://www.coindesk.com/gox-ico-ceo-karpeles-floats-token-sale-revive-bitcoin-exchange/

The question is Do you think Mark Karpeles deserves to be trusted again? Would you invest? Thoughts?

This is a big joke. Why would I trust my money to a guy who stole million dollars worth of Bitcoin from MtGox investors. If he wants to revive the exchange why not use his own money. He does not deserve the trust of investors. lol
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / One of the World’s Largest ATM Manufacturers Announces Bitcoin Support on: November 17, 2017, 01:59:54 PM
Buying bitcoin just keeps getting easier, with vendors of all kinds adding support for the cryptocurrency. Just days ago, Square revealed they were adding the ability to buy BTC within their app. Now Hyosung have gotten in on the act by launching bitcoin ATM support. Soon, customers of the firm’s ATM machines will be able to buy bitcoin at the push of a button.

Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/one-worlds-largest-atm-manufacturers-announces-bitcoin-support/

Would you use it? Thoughts?

For me, this is a good news but people are looking for ways to buy a bitcoin cheaper so why would they choose using expensive method of buying cryptocurrency if there are lots of ways that we can buy it cheaper. That is why I think it will not have that much impact on Bitcoin. I've used it once and will never go back unless it's the only way to buy a bitcoin.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 40 Companies From China and EU Have Applied to Mine Bitcoin in Russia on: November 12, 2017, 04:59:15 PM
Companies from China and the European Union have applied to start mining operations in Russia. The country already has “hundreds” of cryptocurrency mining factories but still has free energy capacity for foreign companies to set up mining farms.

The Russian Association of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency (RACIB) has reportedly received 40 applications from companies and individuals from European Union countries and China to place mining equipment in Russia to mine bitcoin. This was conveyed to Ria Novosti by the association’s president Yuri Pripachkin last week.

The publication then quoted him saying:
"In Russia, the number of such factories is already in the hundreds, and our country has energy resources that can be sold to miners effectively."

"In fact, this is a new market for energy companies, and it is important to prepare a legislative basis, and possible preferential taxation for such foreign investors."

"When considering the current free capacity of Russian energy companies of about 100 GW, the attracted investments into the economy will be about 1.7 trillion rubles a year."

Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/companies-china-eu-mine-bitcoin-russia/

What do you think about this companies that plans to setup Bitcoin mining in Russia? Will they make any profit on mining Bitcoin if they have a tax to pay?

IMO if they really plans to mine Bitcoin then BCH will soon be dead. Russia already said last month that they will tax cryptocurrency mining but it sucks that companies need to apply and pay taxes for them to start mining Bitcoins while in other countries you're free to mine whenever you want.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Gold set to release on: November 10, 2017, 12:51:29 AM
Bitcoin gold is set to go live this weekend.

In a new blog post, the developers behind the fork of the bitcoin blockchain said that they would release a formal software client for download at 7:00 PM UTC on Nov. 12. Originally set for a public launch on Nov. 1, the project is backed by LightningASIC, a seller of mining hardware based in Hong Kong, as well as a community of relatively unknown developers.

Quote
Hello miners and users!
We’re thrilled to announce a start date to the community:
November 12, 2017 – 7:00 PM (19:00 UTC)
At this point, we will provide the Bitcoin Gold full node client download on our website. The BTG blockchain will officially be live, with blocks mined openly by users and pools from all around the world.
Wallets and exchanges will be able to process deposits, withdrawals and trades (as soon as they are ready). This is the culmination of months of hard work, which have led to many changes and improvements, including:
Equihash PoW change
Implementation of full Replay Protection (BIP143 SIGHASH) (protecting the community from attacks)
Implementation of a Unique “G” and “A” prefixed Address Format (avoiding accidental coin transactions to incorrect destinations)
Refinement of the per-block difficulty  adjustment algorithm (to better respond to dynamic changes in hashing power)
The usual minor tweaks, bug fixes, and improvements
Successful mining on several generations of Public Testnet
Network & pool integration
We are extremely grateful for the community around the world who have been contributing hash power to our testnets; besides patiently testing their own mining process, they allow exchanges, pools, wallet developers, and all other service operators to implement and test their support of BTG so that the Bitcoin Gold community can have a full suite of services at launch time. Thank you to all those who have donated their hash power to this effort! We’d also like to extend our gratitude to all those service providers who have been working so hard with us to prepare a fully functional ecosystem at launch.
The results are living proof that a friendly fork can lead to healthy, organic growth of a new crypto community.
The team is now redoubling efforts in the following areas:
Improving our documentation so that accurate, up-to-date info is easily accessible for mining
Assisting providers of services (exchanges, wallets) to integrate BTG – Full technical info
Assisting press and social media communities with access to information and services coming soon (official wallet and mining guide, official community forum, etc.)
We know that many of you share our happiness and joy as we mark this exciting moment.
#1CPU1VOTE
With best wishes.

8  Local / Pilipinas / Segwit2x hard fork cancelled. Lets have a discussion here. on: November 09, 2017, 01:47:20 PM

Segwit2x official announcement of cancellation: https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-segwit2x/2017-November/000685.html

Anong saloobin nyo tungkol dito? Lets have a discussion here in our local board at alamin ang opinion ng lahat.

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Credit Suisse CEO "Bitcoin is the very definition of a bubble" on: November 04, 2017, 03:11:07 PM
At a time in which bitcoin reaches a new record high around the $7,500 mark and catapults the cryptocurrency market cap above the $200 billion mark for the first time in history, Credit Suisse CEO Tidjane Thiam makes it clear that he isn’t a fan of the cryptocurrency, as he stated it was the “very definition of a bubble” while speaking at a news conference in Zurich.

Tidjane Thiam stated:
“From what we can identify, the only reason today to buy or sell Bitcoin is to make money, which is the very definition of speculation and the very definition of a bubble.”

“Bitcoin presents a number of challenges. The first of them is really the anonymity. (…) I think most banks in the current state of regulation have little or no appetite to get involved in a currency which has such anti-money laundering challenges."

Agree with Tidjane Thiam? Thoughts?

Another clown added to the list. It is funny that these rich people making statements without fully understanding what is Bitcoin.  Grin
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Chinese Exchanges Seek second Chance in Japan and Other Crypto-Friendly Country on: October 27, 2017, 02:59:35 PM
Following the crackdown by the Chinese government last month, bitcoin exchanges in China are looking to continue their businesses in cryptocurrency-friendly countries. Nineteen chinese companies are reportedly applying for a license to operate in Japan, while others are considering Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

According to Bloomberg:
"They’re applying for licenses in Japan — solo or via partners — setting up over-the-counter shops in Hong Kong, or laying the groundwork to operate from Singapore and South Korea."

Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/chinese-exchanges-japan/

What will be the impact of Chinese exchanges migrating to other cryptocurrency friendly countries on Bitcoin and other alternative coins price? Any possitive and negative effects? Thoughts?
11  Local / Pamilihan / Coins.ph plans on upcoming Bitcoin hard fork on: October 23, 2017, 02:08:13 PM
Hi mga kababayan nag message ako sa support ng coins.ph about the Bitcoin Gold hard fork kung susuportahan ba nila ito, araw araw ko sila tinatanong tungkol dito and today I received this response from one of their support na ang pangalan ay sharmaine.

Quote
Hi there,

From the research our team has done, the Bitcoin Gold project has not gathered meaningful industry support and appears to still be somewhat of an experiment. With that said, the Bitcoin Gold project does not appear to be contentious and should have proper protection in place to prevent disruptions to the main Bitcoin network.

While Coins.ph has no plans to support Bitcoin Gold, we will allow users interested in redeeming their Bitcoin Gold to claim their funds and send them to an external Bitcoin Gold adress.

We will update our users with information on claiming their Bitcoin Gold after the possible Bitcoin Gold fork in late October (if indeed one does occur).

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin is not the new gold, Goldman Sachs says on: October 19, 2017, 11:02:30 AM
Cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are not the "new gold," Goldman Sachs said in a note, advising investors that precious metals "remain a relevant asset class" in portfolios.

The analysts said that digital wallets, where people can store cryptocurrencies, are vulnerable to hacking, and virtual currencies also have "significant regulatory risks." For example, China recently banned cryptocurrency exchanges and put a stop to initial coin offerings (ICOs), the new way for start-ups to raise money by issuing digital tokens.

Goldman also said that cryptocurrencies are subject to network or infrastructure risk during a crisis. For example, there was a "hard fork" this summer when bitcoin split to create a new cryptocurrency called bitcoin cash.

The investment bank said that precious metals are "still the best long-term store of value"

Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/19/bitcoin-is-not-the-new-gold-goldman-sachs-says.html

What are your thoughts?

Bitcoin and gold have some similarities but I don't want to compare both since bitcoin is a digital currency and gold is a precious metal.
But I still pick bitcoin over gold for long term store of value.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Russian Regulators Think They Found a Way to Identify, Tax, and License Miners on: October 15, 2017, 10:25:21 AM
Russia’s regulators have revealed how they plan to find and tax cryptocurrency miners as well as license them. This follows their meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. At the meeting, they agreed to regulate cryptocurrency mining, alongside cryptocurrencies themselves including bitcoin. Last week, the finance ministry proposed creating a registry of crypto miners.

The head of the Committee on Financial Markets Anatoly Aksakov said:
"If we talk about mining, then this is a large consumption of electricity, it is obvious that it is not difficult to track. I do not see any problems here."

Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/russian-regulators-tax-license-cryptocurrency-miners/

They will tax crypto miners through electricity. What do you think? Will Russian be successfully track, tax and license miners?
I'm sure if they can successfully do it then other countries will follow but what if big miners distributed their rigs into different places, how they can track them?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Jamie Dimon Says He's Done Talking About Bitcoin on: October 12, 2017, 03:19:00 PM
JPMorgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon has said he won't be commenting on bitcoin anymore.
It's a statement that comes a month after his now-infamous declaration that the cryptocurrency is a "fraud." Dimon made the remarks during a third-quarter earnings call with reporters this morning, as cited by CNBC.

He reportedly said:
"I wouldn't put this high on the category of important things in the world, but I'm not going to talk about bitcoin anymore."

Source: https://www.coindesk.com/jamie-dimon-says-hes-done-talking-bitcoin/

Maybe after bitcoin hits its new all time high earlier today he realizes that he was wrong? And finally the clown stops spreading false informations. What are your thoughts?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / South Korea Bans All Initial Coin Offerings on: September 29, 2017, 07:36:23 AM
South Korea’s Financial Services Commission has announced that all initial coin offerings will be banned in the country. and said
"All kinds of initial coin offerings (ICO) will be banned as trading of virtual currencies needs to be tightly controlled and monitored."

Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/south-korea-bans-initial-coin-offerings/

What do you think? Is this ban only temporary and after implementing regulation it they will change their decision or they will do what China did?
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Charlie Shrem "China has no real effect on the future of bitcoin" on: September 23, 2017, 04:21:41 PM
Charlie Shrem is one of the pioneer in Bitcoin and said “This China FUD is playing on all your fear, uncertainty and doubt. China has no real effect on the future of bitcoin. Bitcoin is about censorship free and an alternative non govt controlled financial system. China’s relevancy is diminishing by the day. They overplayed their hand and there is a reason they are being ambiguous. The only power they have over bitcoin is the power you give them. Bitcoin puts a financial system back in our control.”

Agree with Charlie Shrem?

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Ray Dalio said Bitcoin is a bubble on: September 20, 2017, 03:17:01 AM
The founder of the world's largest hedge fund Ray Dalio said he doesn't think bitcoin is an effective storehold of wealth and compare it to gold.
he said "It's not an effective storehold of wealth because it has volatility to it, unlike gold. Bitcoin is a highly speculative market. Bitcoin is a bubble."
Source: https://www.coindesk.com/bridgewater-associates-head-says-bitcoin-bubble/

Agree? or just another person who wants the value of bitcoin to drop with his statement and invest to it with low price?

For me yes bitcoin is highly volatile for now but Bitcoin have a chance to be more stable if all countries and more and more people will adopt it. If billions of people will use bitcoin I think it will.
18  Local / Pilipinas / Cryptocurrency Course in College. Agree? on: September 18, 2017, 06:51:40 AM
Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/russian-universities-cryptocurrency-courses/

19  Local / Pilipinas / John McAfee explained why bitcoin is not a bubble and absolutely not a fraud on: September 14, 2017, 12:44:10 PM
