1  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitstamp REVERSING verification for already verified members on: April 06, 2014, 03:00:47 AM
Bitstamp are reversing verification for already verified members.  I have a deal lined up that I was trying to pay for (several thousand dollars, a deal which I must now miss out on (few choice words come to mind Bitstamp) - logged into Bitstamp to grab some bitcoin to send and received a message saying my verification was not approved and I would need to resubmit documents.  Note this was not even emailed to me, just waiting until I log in (why wait until I actually need to use your service to start remediation???)

I've been verified since last year and have done plenty of depositing, trading and withdrawing in that time.

So - WTF?  No notice or warning, just all my funds are frozen until I can verify AGAIN.  Serves me right for having funds on an exchange I guess.  I thought Stamp were supposed to be one of the better exchanges, but outright freezing withdrawals (bitcoin included) of already verified members with NO NOTICE is just f*cking disgusting behaviour.  Apologies for the language, just angry at having some 3rd party cost me a business deal for some arbitrary reason of their choice.

TL:DR;
1) Bitstamp may freeze your funds regardless of if you are already verified, assuming because of some new documentary requirement
2) You won't know it's happened until you log into your account (they won't email you)
3) You must re-verify before you can access any bitcoin held at Stamp

Hope it's just me but somehow I doubt it.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Gox Withdrawal Delays Not Just Affecting AUD on: July 29, 2013, 01:42:08 AM
Hey guys,

Quick FYI to share my experience trying to withdraw from Gox.

Despite their claims to the contrary, withdrawal problems are not just with USD.  I've waited weeks and weeks for nearly $20,000 to be withdrawn.

Lots of excuses, I've been told (repeatedly) 2 more weeks, 2 more weeks.  Also told withdrawals of 5 figures were prioritized (untrue).  Been so long now my bank is on my back to repay some costs and all my money was tied up in Gox.

I had no choice but to cancel the withdrawals, pull out in bitcoin and cash out via other means.  I lost about $2,000 in extra fees and associated costs for arbitrage and using other services.

I'm glad that months long horror is over with but I think we should all be aware, the cost of doing business with MtGox, can be around 10% to get your money out (unless you're willing to risk leaving it there and hoping in future months they will give you your money - 10% may be worth the risk in some peoples eyes).

Just sharing my experiences.

Cheers
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Coins-E fail - dodgy, consider staying away on: July 25, 2013, 05:36:56 AM
Hey guys, just a quick note to share my experience with Coins-E.

Deposited ~300 XPM there to trade with, nowhere to be found (large num of confirmations).  Talking to others in the chatbox seems lots of people have lost XPM they have deposited.

Hoping it's a delay but starting to get nervous Sad

What is it with exchanges - they all suck (waiting on 5 figure withdrawals from Gox for months) - actually that's not fair MCXnow has always been good to me...
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Oz Exchange? Is the demand there? on: July 04, 2013, 08:34:32 AM
Please provide feedback (honest & critical is fine!)...

I'd like to know if there is a demand in Australia for a local crypto exchange.

The main driver would be speed of handling fiat, thus target audience would be residents/those with financial holdings of Australia.

In a nutshell:

* Regular plain old exchange without too many bells & whistles (less complexity = less to go wrong)
* The ability to do stop-loss trading
* The main selling point - same day fiat withdrawals & deposits (AUD) - this would be achieved by holding fiat in accounts with each of the major Aus banks, as I believe transfers in Aus within the same bank are immediate (correct me if I'm wrong).  For example if you wanted to withdraw to a CBA account, we'd send the withdrawal via our own CBA account and so on.

I don't claim anything at the moment, just suffering from ongoing delays depositing at Gox which has made me interested what demand there is for same day fiat deposits & withdrawals.

If there is demand there I may consider funding something (I'm in infrastructure so can handle the architecture side but I'd need to fund coders & business minds too).

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Should I be worried? Mt Gox trying to 'locate' my $10,000 on: July 04, 2013, 01:16:00 AM
Hey guys, note this will probably end up in a /rant so don't continue reading unless you have time to waste Smiley

I have a verified account at MtGox, and finally worked up the courage to wire them $10,000 to start trading.

My bank tells me they received the funds last Friday (28 June).  There has been no credit to my MtGox account.

I've asked support for help, and chase them about once a day.  Each time they get back to me a day or so later and tell me they are trying to 'locate' my deposit - what does this mean?  I've quadruple checked it was sent with all the correct details including my Gox account reference and such.  I don't understand this concept of 'locating' my funds - it's not like I left $10K stashed under a park bench for them to go and find, it's an electronic transfer containing my account ref that has been verified by my bank as completing almost a week ago.

Perhaps someone more experienced can advise me - is this usual?  Should I be freaking out (I kind of am - this is my first real foray into cryptos and it's not starting well).

I don't have this kind of money to throw around so I'm getting a little nervous now - if my bank told me each day "sorry we're trying to locate your money" they'd have one less customer.

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers
6  Economy / Reputation / lishbtc's reputation thread on: May 18, 2013, 07:53:28 AM
Figured I should get one started...

I've successfully traded with imjson, hdclover, prelude, clint25n, tytanick & majormax so far.
I'm also on the safe traders list (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=208203.0)

Will ask future traders to report on this thread.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [DEV] Automated escrow - requirements gathering on: May 17, 2013, 10:52:23 PM
Hey all,

Having lost my scamginity (only lost a few LTC thankfully) there's obviously a clear need for some kind of reliable and automated escrow.

I'm considering putting something together, and I'd like to get feedback before I get started.

In a nutshell the process would be:
* One of the parties visits automated service to 'setup' the trade - entering currencies, both destination wallets and amounts
* Said person then receives a unique transaction ID within a URL which can be PM'd to the other party
* Both parties can use that URL to 'view' the trade and verify the details.  Viewing the trade would also show deposit wallet addresses.
* If both parties deposit the correct amount to the deposit wallet addresses, the trade is released and the funds flipped over to the destination wallets
* If only one of the parties deposits before expiry (fix expiry at say 60mins or user configurable?) then trade is cancelled and funds returned to original sender

There would be no usernames or passwords and no storing of funds outside of an active trade (to minimize risk & security pressures).  Every use would be a one time thing - hit up the service, configure the trade and fund it - or don't fund it and the other party will get their funds back.

This is intended to be as simplistic as possible, which should facilitate the integration of new currencies fairly quickly.

Full disclosure I'm going to be looking at charging a 1% fee - not only do I have to code this thing from scratch there's server costs and so on.

And in the interests of managing expectations - no promises on whether this even goes ahead - I may decide this is too much coding, not feasible, or just plain uninteresting.  At the moment I'd just like to get some feedback on the model and whether it would get much usage.

Please feel free to post your feedback Smiley

Update: In light of this type of service already being in development, I'm putting this on hold (there isn't enough trading frequency in these forums to effectively sustain two services).  Good luck to Redream and if it doesn't pan out for you perhaps I'll take another look at this then.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Hey everybody on: May 03, 2013, 04:48:54 AM
Hey all,

After years of watching by the sidelines being a bit risk-averse I've finally jumped in and am getting involved in cryptocurrencies...

Since I'm a newbie to the forums I need to get my five posts up, so just thought I'd say hello...

I'm in it more for the tech primarily.  I've built myself a mining rig in a custom open air case running 3x7950s - power is expensive here so the 7-series on 28nm is a must.  Pulling about 500kh/s (1.5Mh/s total) on scrypt mining at the moment.  Been up a couple of weeks, stable @ 75c with a floor fan for a little extra cooling help.  This is all stock 850/1250, haven't looked at pushing up the clocks yet, heat is a significant factor (I'm in Aus) & I don't want to have to run A/C in the room (extra running costs).

I'm also going to be looking at spinning up a pool in the future (for some of the altcoins), but I still have some work to do here in addressing things like building trust, DDoS mitigation and how to securely store funds for those miners that don't configure autopayouts etc.  More on that as/if it progresses.

Anyway, a simple hello Smiley
