1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / #ICantGoOneDayWithout #Bitcoin so true. on: June 01, 2012, 02:56:31 AM
#ICantGoOneDayWithout is currently the hottest trend on twitter. So, I made a FeedZeBirds campaign to let them know how I feel about Bitcoin. If you feel the same, please retweet.

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] Coinapult SMS wallet - no internet required on: May 31, 2012, 07:10:07 AM
You can now use your cell phone to control your Coinapult funds. This is accomplished through simple SMS commands sent to the Coinapult phone number: (603)509-2102

Basic commands are:

Quote
help me - prints available commands
send (person) (amount) - Sends (amount) to (person). (person) can be a phone number, email or btc address.
bal - Returns your Bitcoin balance.
txs - Returns a list of your last 5 transactions.
addr - Returns a new Bitcoin address for you to receive at.
yes (code) - Confirm a send request

All Bitcoin sent to your phone number is accessible through these commands by default. Each time you receive funds, it will still give you the recovery URL, if you prefer to use the website. In the future, I'll allow site accounts to be created, and users will be able to combine multiple email addresses and phones into one account.

So, I've played around with this enough to be confident that it works well. I'd like feedback, though. I will send 0.2btc to the first 5 people who PM me their cell phone number. Please just leave your thoughts in this thread.

Currently only U.S. and Canadian numbers are supported.

[EDIT] All funds are sent. [/EDIT]

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Tormail issues, Coinapult and BitInstant deposits on: May 13, 2012, 12:54:46 AM
BitInstant and Coinapult have been getting emails from Tormail users all day expressing that they have not received retrieval links to their funds. We got suspicious, so I sent an email to my own tormail account. The email did not go through, leading me to believe Tormail is experiencing issues receiving mail. Sending mail seems to work fine.

If you are waiting on a Coinapult email to your @tormail.org address, please use the contact form and let us know an alternative email address.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / FeedZeBirds bug fixed, 25 btc of backlogged payouts just sent out :) on: May 02, 2012, 12:17:17 AM
Dunno how long this bug was in action, because that is quite a backlog! Basically, the last couple hundred user accounts created (out of 2600) were not able to receive payouts. I've got a few more updates I'll be making tonight, so the site will be down for a little while.

If you have any requests, now's the time to make them, and this is the place.

EDIT:

I should tell you my agenda, I suppose...

1. Integrating Coinapult for email withdrawals, so email address payouts will also be going out later tonight.
2. A bundle of database/backend changes, which should greatly improve page load times.
3. Adding a basic API for querying campaign status. (balance, payments, etc)
6  Economy / Service Announcements / [ANN] Coinapult - send Bitcoin over email or SMS in seconds on: April 13, 2012, 02:46:47 AM
Announcing... Coinapult!!!

From the team that brought you FeedZeBirds, Coinapult is here!

Coinapult is how you send Bitcoins via email.

If you want to send Bitcoins to someone, traditionally that person needed a Bitcoin address. No longer! Now, if you know someone's email address, you can Coinapult coins over to them. See a cute girl, and want to launch Bitcoins at her? Great idea! Just load them up on the Coinapult (instant confirmations), and let slip the machine of war!

The coins will be launched thousands of miles instantly and smash down in the girl's inbox. She'll have simple instructions on how to access the coins, and she can then do what she wishes. She will be impressed, and will love you forever.

Uses for Coinapult:
- Send coins to friends and family easily
- Introduce new people to Bitcoin by giving them coins upfront
- Tip anyone in the world - like a certain news article? Sent Bitcoins to the author's email!
- Businesses: plugin to Coinapult's API to send refunds, distribute winnings, or <insert creative idea here>

We know the community will find exciting new uses for Coinapult, so give it a try and see what you come up with.

Launch Some Coin Right Now!

https://coinapult.com

EDIT:
Just added SMS support. Simply type in a 10 digit (US + Canada) phone number into the "to" field to send money via text message.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] BTCinch fund distribution delay on: January 20, 2012, 09:03:56 PM
All BTCinch cart transactions are being processed through a new wallet, which is cut off from the situation I am about to describe. It is 100% safe to use BTCinch for checkout out with merchants, so please do not hesitate to patronize their stores!

It is my obligation to report that there is a hold up in distributing the remaining BTCinch funds. The old transaction server and wallet are in the physical possession of my erstwhile partner Victor O'Rourke. Since Tuesday morning, he has taken the transaction server offline, rendering me unable to distribute the funds as intended.

I have since made repeated attempts to call Victor. His phone has been disconnected. I have written numerous emails, to which I have received no response. I stopped by his house, but he was not home. He called me briefly Tues. night to tell me that he did not want to steal anyone's money. He also said that he would not bring the server back online for even the 10 minutes it would take him to send me the wallet file. He then hung up. This was the last I heard from him.

Since then, I have continued in my attempts to contact him, to no avail. I called the police, who assured me that Victor has not committed a crime. Though neither Victor nor the police will call it such, I consider his actions tantamount to stealing.

The total remaining in the hostage wallet is roughly 600btc, including 100btc of Bit Munchies and BTCinch funds. This includes all withdrawals which are currently shown as "processing".

I am a real person, who understands that I am responsible to BTCinch members and the public. Thousands of you have doubtless seen my face, and hundreds of you have met me in person. This post will likely do more harm to me than anyone else. Understand that I do not post this out of spite or selfishness. I have simply exhausted all other options in getting Victor to do the right thing. If needs be, I will make all of our customers whole out of my own pocket. This would not be an easy thing for me, so I hope it doesn't come to that.

Again, all BTCinch checkouts are being processed through a new wallet, which is 100% safe. Since Victor cut off access to the old wallet, we have successfully processed thousands of dollars in transactions, all of which have been withdrawn. Please do not punish BTCinch merchants for Victor's shortcomings.

Sincerely,
Ira Miller

Please join me in expressing to Victor the magnitude of his actions.

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Twitter suspended Feed Ze Birds application on: January 18, 2012, 01:13:58 AM
When it rains it pours.

I just got back online, and received a notice that Twitter has suspended the Feed Ze Birds application. Don't know why yet, but until further notice, I've taken the site down.

Wish I could say more, but the totality of their message was:

Quote
This is a notice that your OAuth token for Feed Ze Birds has been suspended from interacting with the Twitter API.

Please make sure that your application follows Twitter's API Terms of Service

To request for your token to be re-enabled, please write to api@twitter.com

Will post here as more information becomes available.

9  Economy / Trading Discussion / BTCinch shutting down on: January 17, 2012, 01:10:47 AM
Howdy folks,

I regret to report that BTCinch will be closing its doors. It has been fun, but there are too many legal and organizational barriers to continue on as is.

User registration has been suspended, and I'm in the process of disabling deposits. It is surprisingly tough, considering how Bitcoin transactions work. For now, you may still log in and send outgoing transactions. Tomorrow, however, we'll be transferring all funds to a new wallet for final distribution and turning off the BTCinch transaction server. In the meanwhile, outgoing transactions will continue to be processed. Feel free to log in and withdraw any funds on deposit.

Merchants
For the immediate future (2 weeks), the BTCinch payment gateway will continue to operate with a different transaction server. Withdrawals and conversions will continue to process as usual. By the end of the month, however, I will have replacement plugins for every cart that BTCinch supported. I will be happy to assist the new plugin installation in any way possible.

While BTCinch has lived out its useful lifespan, I am by no means getting out of the Bitcoin game. Quite the opposite. This is, for me, an opportunity to start fresh with more market perspective. In short, do not take this as a judgement on Bitcoin itself. Bitcoin is stronger than ever, and so your confidence should be.

Sincerely,
Ira Miller

P.S. I'm fielding a ton of emails, skype PMs and calls single handedly. I'll keep an eye on this thread and answer any questions, but maybe not right away.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [FIXED] FeedZeBirds.com Twitter Bug on: November 29, 2011, 10:01:22 AM
Hi all,

During our open beta this week for FeedZeBirds.com, we discovered a bug in our Twitter advertising system. Twitter was rejecting retweets of some campaigns, because they contained URLs and special characters that Twitter counted as going over their 140 character limit.

This meant that some retweets were paid out, but never actually occurred (bad for the advertiser, no big deal for the tweeter).

We've resolved the issue now, and the paid missing retweets will be sent out automatically (so the advertisers will be made whole). As an additional compensation for the bug, we're funding the advertisers who this affected with .1 btc in their campaign as a little bonus.

Twitter users who had retweeted these missing ads will now see the ad appear in their timeline.

Our sincere apologies for the bug, and once again it's now fully resolved.

Regards,
-FeedZeBirds.com Team

P.S. For those who are curious, URLs now count as a minimum of 20 characters. We'd love to not bloat your URL lengths, but this is how twitter counts them.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Getting Bitcoin and Bitcoin info into hands of Occupy protesters on: October 12, 2011, 07:33:26 PM
BTCinch is putting together some educational Bitcoin flyers to distribute at Occupy protests. Bruce Wagner will be teaching classes on Bitcoin at the NYC Occupy on Saturday mornings. We're hoping that these flyers will be a useful tool in the class, as they provide basic info as well as funds for the class to use for test transactions.

The flyer will be split into three sections:

  • What is Bitcoin?
Focus on P2P nature and Decentralization
  • Bitcoin recovery QR code/url
Student scans code, and is sent to recovery page for their Bitcoin
  • What to do with your Bitcoin
Highlight products/stores accepting Bitcoin. Bitmunchies is giving all protesters 20% off and donating 10BTC to the class fund. If any other merchants are willing to give the protesters a discount or donations, let us know! We have limited space, but would like to highlight a few (3?) different options.

We could use help with this effort in a few different ways. We can use constructive input on text/images for the flyer. We can use help with classes and/or handing out flyers at Occupy movements. You can also donate Bitcoin to be attached to flyers in two ways.

Donate via BTCinch: https://www.btcinch.com/sendbtc/?mkey=0cD%23Dxs0eXJLwL4u&curcy=BTC
Donation address: 13eVavx6CVVynp2CBRk3wAbkKVmTGEsPm4

100% of the donated funds will be distributed at Occupy protests. If there are any unclaimed funds at the end of this effort, we'll donate them to the Bitcoin faucet.

We're also looking for a way to get water and food to the protesters. If you are willing to help us distribute these, or donate helpful goods, please post here. We contacted Feed The Protest, but have not gotten a response yet.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / BofA and debit card fees on: September 30, 2011, 03:17:43 PM
http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/summary-box-bank-of-america-to-charge-5-monthly-debit-card-fee/2011/09/29/gIQAjODo7K_story.html

This has obvious implications for Bitcoin. Our conversation with the public just got much simpler. Why use Bitcoin? We don't charge $5/month for access to your own money.

Discrete Hydro - Exactly What Your Garden Needs
16  Economy / Services / BTCinch Merchant Services and Wallet on: August 29, 2011, 07:15:51 PM
Hello everyone,

It has been a while since I've been on the forum, but I wanted to publish a BTCinch update here. I'll answer the questions posed in the linked post, as well as provide a status update.

Congratulations Ira on the launch of your new site!  Excellent interview on OnlyOneTv.

1.  what bank do you plan on using for ACH?
2.  when you say you don't charge merchants for converting btwn BTC and USD how can you profitably do this given your immediate need to buy/sell via the exchanges?  if BTC gets volatile again i would worry about you getting caught like the Madhatter did with eMansipator.   http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=8258.0;all
3.  do you plan on offering an online widget?
4.  how can you legally act like a Dwolla or Paypal?
5.  doesn't ACH limit you to US tx's?
6.  how do you plan to transmit fiat cash to foreigners?  wire, check?

Fees and Services (Qs 2, 3)
BTCinch does not charge transaction fees, but does charge a small conversion fee. I said on the show that the only fee in our service is the conversion rate, but that is incorrect. We will charge monthly fees for premium services (better exchange rate, invoicing tools, etc.). Basic accounts will be free to use, and we will monetize by taking a small percentage for converting BTC to USD. If you are a store or an individual and never convert BTC to USD or opt for premium services, BTCinch will be entirely free to use.

We built a trade-bot which communicates and trades on multiple exchanges in near real-time. It is obviously impossible to always stay ahead of the market, but the bot has performed well for 7 weeks of testing. We'll continue to improve on it, and are confident that it will perform well. Through use of the BTCinch trade-bot, we manage our own market exposure, and protect against situations like Bitcoin4Cash encountered.

Withdrawal Methods (Qs 1, 5, 6)
BTCinch uses US Bank for our pooled USD account, and ACH transactions. We currently only send ACH transactions to the US, though I believe that Canadian banks also use ACH. We have plans to integrate withdrawal methods for other currencies, but are focusing on the US market for our launch.

Legal (Q 4)
BTCinch LLC is registered in Nevada, and we intend to follow all requirements to operate as a general money-services company. We have been assured that our current legal status is sufficient to operate as planned until we grow significantly larger. If you have any more legal questions about using BTCinch, PM me.

Current Status
We are pushing forward with live testing on a very aggressive schedule. The feedback and interest we received at the conference were incredible, and we're trying to take care of all of the requests before our new transaction server arrives in 2-3 weeks. Until the server is up, we are not recommending BTCinch for time-sensitive transactions, as there can be delays.

We're working with various merchants to test and improve a variety of core services. A brief status update follows for each.

In Person Checkout
Received a ton of interest in our In Person Checkout system, and are setting up a few stores to try it out. We're ordering personalized, We Accept Bitcoin QR codes for those merchants helping us test. Expect to see these pop up around Denver and NYC over the next few weeks.

osCommerce Plugin
Working perfectly, and currently in use on bitmunchies.com. If it continues to behave well in testing, we'll release the code publicly on Oct. 1, 2011.

Zen-cart Plugin
Completed, and undergoing unit tests. If you requested to test our zen-cart plugin, please be patient a little longer. We've been busy dealing with the transaction server and the conference, so it isn't quite ready. I expect to send the plugin to our beta testers this week, and release the code publicly on Oct. 1, 2011.

OpenCart Plugin
The OpenCart plugin is under development, and should be ready for testing by Sept. 2nd. OpenCart is the most requested plugin, so we're prioritizing it. Hopefully, the volume of OpenCart transactions should shorten the test schedule, but it may be the second or third week of Oct. before we're ready to release it to the public.

Magento Plugin
A Magento plugin is on the development schedule for next week. It should be ready for testing by Sept. 9th.

If you have a site and are interested in helping us test one of the above options, let me know, and I'll send you the respective plugin.

Time-line
Aug. 29th - Sept. 9th integrate requests from conference, continue testing In Person Checkout, Zen-cart plugin, and osCommerce plugin. Release OpenCart and Magento plugins for beta testing.
Sept. 12th - 23rd Set up production servers and cold-storage systems. Last stage required for launch.
Sept. 26th - 30th Finish beta test phase and assess launch readiness.
Oct. 1 Open registration to the public, and release plugin code.

That answers most of the questions we've been receiving, but please respond with anything I missed. I will follow this topic, and provide updates here.

17  Economy / Marketplace / ATTN gardners: discretehydro.com coming soon on: June 22, 2011, 06:56:16 PM
Soon, you'll be able to get all of your gardening supplies with bitcoin.

The Grow Store
As part of my ongoing bitcoin marketing campaign in Denver, I've been talking with The Grow Store about accepting bitcoins. The Grow Store is a local hydroponics store with two locations in the Denver metro area. They've got a huge selection of everything from nutrients and lights to timers, tents and ventilation systems. While they're not interested in accepting bitcoins for themselves, yet, they've agreed to resell their products.

Discrete Hydro
And so discretehydro.com is born. Discrete Hydro will supply anything and everything you need for a top notch garden. Because The Grow Store has been generous enough to give us access to their entire inventory, we'll offer a vast (but still finite) selection from day 1. In return, all we ask is that you send us your bitcoin.

Customers of Discrete Hydro can expect the same quality of service you've come to appreciate at bitmunchies.com. We are committed to customer satisfaction and privacy. Ask any of our customers!

Sign me up!
We should be launching in the next week or two. If you'd like to be notified when we launch, please leave your email address on the construction page at discretehydro.com.

Happy gardening,
Ira Miller

P.S. If you live around Denver, we'd highly recommend visiting The Grow Store. I can personally vouch for their expertise, quality products and great prices.
