Is there such a thing? If not, could we create one in a wiki style collaboration?

3  Economy / Speculation / What's the reason for the recent price dump? on: July 04, 2013, 06:23:23 AM
Bubble deflating, seen it coming etc., blah

All the above could have been said for 2 months, yet the forum reeks of self-fulfilling prophecy panic now Grin

The question is why is it dropping now?

(How) is the Winklevoss IPO filing related to this?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / "51% actor or botnet could manipulate the source code of the bitcoin network" on: July 02, 2013, 09:17:17 PM
In the Winklevoss IPO filing:

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1579346/000119312513279830/d562329ds1.htm

Quote
If a malicious actor or botnet obtains control in excess of 50 percent of the processing power active on the Bitcoin Network, such actor or botnet could manipulate the source code of the Bitcoin Network or the Blockchain in a manner that adversely affects an investment in the Shares or the ability of the Trust to operate.

I get that such an attacker can double spend their own coins, but how does controlling more than 50% of the hashrate allow anybody to manipulate the source code??

Mining starts now!

GO!

For solo gpu mining put this in your config file (%appdata%\Ferretcoin\ferretcoin.conf on Windows and ~/.ferretcoin/ferretcoin.conf on Linux, create the file if it doesn't exist yet):

Code:
rpcuser=username
rpcpassword=set a strong password here
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=33032
port=33033
daemon=1
server=1

Then run your wallet again.

With cgminer for example invoke it as: cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://127.0.0.1:33032 -u username -p yourpassword (add hardware specific parameters matching your cards to reach your max hashrate! You can find a comprehensive list of cards with good parameter choices in the config notes here: http://litecoin.info/Mining_Hardware_Comparison)
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What's going on with Bter.com? on: June 26, 2013, 06:12:46 PM
They have been down for almost 24 hours straight now without any notice in the forums or anything..

Don't they have a twitter or FB or some communication channel they use?

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [TH][PXC] 50 Phenixcoins Treasure Hunt! on: June 25, 2013, 04:28:39 AM
Hi everybody,

to give something back to the community and maybe help spread the word about Phenixcoin I am giving away my private key to the following address which Joerri generously filled with 50 PXC earlier:

PYNNkZqiiSNryANKPwuaBbvBWky8bLMb6y

There's just one little caveat: I changed 3 characters of the private key, and won't say which ones Grin

So here it is: UEomgSv2M8t4gnVq2tVE1ufs6M4Sj58noGkmuuuGL3wkRCzJce7j

I hope you have fun cracking it and if my calculations are correct you don't have to worry about wasting too many clock cycles which would otherwise be better spent in mining; first come first served, the winner takes it all Wink

EDIT: I will PM the position of the first changed character to everyone who asks for it in this thread

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How do you run altcoin wallets/software you don't necessarily trust? on: June 17, 2013, 09:28:10 AM
Do you install the binaries? Compile from source? Read the source (Shocked)? Install every wallet on a dedicated system or in a separate VM?

I'm concerned some of the plethora of altcoins might actually contain malware and steal your other wallets if you install it on the same system.

Are there any known cases of that sort?

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is there a PXC block explorer website? on: May 29, 2013, 05:17:57 AM
I didn't find anything on Google.

Developers of those great consolidated explorer websites (like cryptocoinexplorer.com), could you please add Phenixcoin?  Smiley

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Best arguments why coins are not a waste of energy? on: May 04, 2013, 02:42:48 PM
It's just the price for the actual value in return: solid money.

It furthers technological progress in the computer/semiconductor industry.

Traditional money also requires loads of energy to maintain.

Anything else you can think of?
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Why am I getting so few coins at diff 4? Is there a ChinaCoin mining calculator? on: May 04, 2013, 02:08:38 AM
Or does anybody know the formula for calculating how many coins per day to expect for a given hashrate and difficulty?

Current difficulty 4 seems insanely low compared to other coins, yet I'm only getting like 300 CNC per day for 1000kH/s, not so much more than with other coins ...

I was expecting something around 10k per day...
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Do you know any CHNCoin / CHC / CNC / ChinaCoin block explorer? on: May 04, 2013, 01:38:01 AM
Hi,

I didn't find anything on Google.

Via the forum search function I could only find this one:

http://altcoin.pw/abe/chain/CHNCoin

but it appears to be down...

Maybe somebody knows an alternative or could PM the dev of http://www.cryptocoinexplorer.com/ or something? I'm still a newbie and cannot send messages..

Thanks
