Cointemporary has featured art by the likes of photographer Beat Streuli, painter Larissa Lockshin, and installation artists Anetta Mona Chişa and Lucia Tkáčová. The website states it wants the works it promotes to be viewed within a “broader global visual context free from the hegemonic monetary system in which contemporary art is embedded.” By pricing them in Bitcoin, it says, it becomes more difficult to ascribe them traditional value. Its decentralized online payment network also offers a “new form of autonomy in the global monetary system,” which Cointemporary claims does not yet exist in the art world.

OKCoin has passed a Proof of Solvency/Proof of Reserves audit conducted by Stefan Thomas. The audit was announced on Weibo yesterday. Fellow Chinese Bitcoin exchanges, Huobi and BTC China, are also expected to release similar announcements soon. Stefan Thomas previously conducted the same Proof of Solvency/Proof of Reserve audits for Bitfinex and Kraken. PRAGUE: The Czech Republic launched its answer to Bitcoin on Tuesday (Aug 19) when new virtual currency CzechCrownCoin started trading.

"Early this afternoon we put a first test run of 100,000 coins on the market," CZC project head Ladislav Faith told AFP. "The total number of coins has been set at 100 million."

Taxing bitcoin something that is considered to be one of the biggest headaches known to cryptocurrency users. The Australian Tax Office has decided against treating Bitcoin and other crypto currencies as money, with investors set to pay capital gains tax on the sale of any bitcoins.

Under the ATO’s guidance paper and rulings, Bitcoin transactions will be treated like barter transactions with similar taxation consequences.

The company said the acquisition puts it on track to not only become the number one secure bitcoin storage option for the Chinese market, but to gain a significant share of the international market as well.
