1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How do I recover the transaction history on: February 18, 2014, 11:47:40 PM
I have a wallet file I use for my business transactions and when I opened and it started syncing the blockchain it would crash the client (qt linux, several versions over the last year).  Anyway I started a new wallet and moved all my coins to it.  Now that it's getting to be time to file my taxes I need a history of my bitcoin income and expenses.

Is there a way for me to pull the transaction history out of my wallet.dat file?

I would also be interested to know if there is some way to export it from a working file.  I found one post that claimed it could be done, but I didn't see any way other than to manually retype it into a spreadsheet.

Thanks,
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / can't use my wallet? error -30974 <solved> on: April 18, 2013, 12:19:10 AM
I get this each time I try to open my bitcoin-qt

System error: CDB() : can't open database file wallet.dat, error -30974

I can't find any posts showing that same error #.

I installed a new copy of bitcoin-qt on another computer and tried both my wallet from the old one then my backedup copy of the wallet.  Both still caused this error.  It happens if I try to do anything with the wallet.  If I just let it sync it runs for a while then shows the error.  Once it shows the error I am forced to press ok and the program closes.

Both machines are running Ubuntu.

Any ideas?

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin for my congressional campaign on: November 12, 2011, 03:23:50 AM
I am running for US Congress in North Dakota District 1 (we only have the one)

I have read other posts on issues with accepting bitcoin.  However people donate cash to campaigns all the time.  Could I not simply have a form on my website collecting the required donor information and generating a bitcoin address?  How would this be different from cash donations.  In the unlikely event someone sent a large sum of coins to my campaign wallet, could I not simply state that any donations over the limit or not accompanied by the required donor information will be donated to the faucet or some non-profit?

Facebook page if you would like to give me a like:http://www.facebook.com/pages/Eric-Olson-for-US-Congress/178809988867755

Web site will be www.ericolson2012.com it should be up in a week or so.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Price Conspiracy on: October 19, 2011, 08:05:09 PM
Now, I expect bitcoin to be volatile, and you would have to expect a pretty big drop after the rise it took, but something doesn't seem right here.

The lower the price gets the more I am considering the possibility that this is intentional.

Two theories:

1. Banks/Credit Cards/Govt or someone else who has money and doesn't like bitcoin, is buying coins on the DL from people in places other than the exchanges and are dumping them to push the price down in the hopes of killing bitcoin, or reducing the network to the point where a hostile takeover is possible.

2. Someone who does believe in the future of bitcoin is using the same tactic to drive the price down so they can load up at a very low cost.

Thoughts?
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Business cards to present Bitcoin to Occupy groups. on: October 08, 2011, 08:53:11 PM
I have designed and ordered some business cards to hand out at events targeting our financial institutions.

Front of card:

Back of card:
http://bayimg.com/nAKGaAadG

I will ship these to anyone at cost, naturally I take bitcoins.

Cost is as follows:
$4.5 for 25
$9 for 50
$18 for 100
$27 for 200
$42 for 500
$70 for 1000
$120 for 2000

If you would like to donate some coins I will use the funds to send the appropriate amount of cards out to interested organizers.

8  Economy / Marketplace / Money changer network (western union / money gram) on: May 14, 2011, 10:24:27 PM
What I would like to see is a network of money changers that could accept cash, send bitcoins between each other then dispense cash at the other end just as western union and money gram locations do now.

We would need to form some sort of organization to create a brand name for the service and over see that all the money changers play by the rules, but we could offer membership to any currently existing stores that currently user like services.  The advantage to them is that they could undercut existing services and still keep more of the profits than they are able to currently.

Perhaps someone a little more code savvy than myself could develop an online interface where the customer could just enter all the information for the transaction (recipient, sending and receiving locations, password, amount) and that information could stay private except for the amount would show up on the sending stores screen and they could confirm it was paid for before the transaction goes though.

9  Economy / Economics / What are all these coins being spent on? on: May 14, 2011, 12:10:42 AM
I would love to know what marketshare each type of product or service has in bitcoin transactions.  How much is money changing, people moving them from one computer to another so on...

I'm guessing there is no good way to tell so I would like to invite speculation.  Any educated guesses?  Anyone have any idea if the stores listed on the wiki as accepting bitcoins do very much business in bitcoins?
10  Bitcoin / Project Development / Facebook game using bitcoins on: May 13, 2011, 11:50:12 PM
I would love to see a Facebook game that used bitcoins.  Something catchy that I could send to all my friends.  Normally I find them really annoying and block them all but lets face it people love to send them.  I can't think of a better way to spread knowledge about bitcoin.

Suggestions:
Dope Wars style game (though not sure that would be the best image to start with).
Some sort of economic simulator that allowed people to experience how bitcoin works with .0001 coin representing one.

It doesn't need to use very many coins, but over all it could add up to a lot.  You could probably sell tiny coin pieces at a pretty good premium to cover to cost of production and updating if you wanted.  Or have the app give you back any coins on accounts that have been dormant for a year or more.  Maybe an option for the player to donate coins from their game to a charity.

I have no talent for those sort of things so if anyone else thinks it's a good idea have at it.

11  Economy / Marketplace / Graphics for new bitcoin sites on: May 08, 2011, 08:20:13 PM
I am considering creating a bitcoin related site or probably sites and I was wondering if there is any freely available art as that can or should be used to promote bitcoins both for commercial and hobby uses.

I am looking to build at least one online store accepting bitcoins and at least one site built to help promote the bitcoin economy in general.

Any help appreciated thank you..
12  Other / Meta / Ratings on: May 07, 2011, 05:06:29 PM
Please excuse me for being new, but I can't seem to find how ratings work.  I am just wondering because I seem to have acquired a negative somehow and can't find why?

13  Other / Obsolete (selling) / XFX Dual GPU HD9570 Black Edition For Sale on: May 05, 2011, 04:18:16 AM
Here is the product info on Newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150500

As I understand it this is the best card for mining, and Newegg is sold out...
Factory overclocked, comes with lots of extra crap, in huge and very nice lan party case.  Shipped in the most over padded manner I have ever seen.

I ordered 4 of these for mining not realizing how huge and hot they are (fairly loud to at full load).

Of the two received so far one was DOA and getting sent back but I have 2 more I didn't bother to pay the 2 day delivery on.  As it appears that I can not put 3-4 of these in one case.  Because if the sound of them all doesn't upset my roommate I'm afraid my living room may burst into flames from the heat.

Anyway seeing as I can't use so many of these now and I'm honestly a bit over my head in the mining business I thought I would offer it for sale in Bitcoins.

The card will come new and unopened, just as I receive it from Newegg (if you want me to open and test it first I will, but if it is DOA I would be happy to put in the RMA request for you.  Newegg is always pretty good about that).

It was purchased for $909 so I will offer it up for $250 BTCs,  I will consider shipping your discount for paying in BTCs.  As I can't use this I would be willing to accept a check/money order/paypal for the full $909 if thats what it takes to sell it, but BTC's are greatly preferred.

Repost or Call if interested..

--==Update==--

Since the value of bitcoins has risen and my buyer stopped emailing me I have reducing the price to 110BTC.  Thats about 33% discount off retail, based on current bitcoin value.  I will still ship for free in the USA, 5BTC Canada, 15BTC Japan or Europe.
